honeybadger
I had picked out a bunch of Kermit pictures to appropriately theme my new challenge but I can't seem to attach any files at the moment. So you will have to use your imagination. (Picture Kermit sitting on a log playing his banjo) Last challenge I conquered The Bridge of Death. Having a very specific goal and an event to train for really helped keep me focused and on track. Well... on track in terms of training. Diet. Not so much. Unfortunately, I do not have an event I am training for this challenge. This challenge I will be focusing on some professional goals and getting back to a healthy diet. I will also be including a mileage goal for running. (Picture a platter of cupcakes decorated to look like Muppets) My diet has gone to shit over the past few months. Transitioning back to work has thrown me off. I need to get back to my Paleoish diet. NO MORE SUGAR!!!! I also need to get back in the habit of tracking my food in MFP. Mostly I need to do this because it helps keep me accountable to my diet (I don't like to log foods I shouldn't be eating) and in a healthy calorie range. I have not been weighing myself, mostly out of fear, due to my eating like an asshole. I have to say that 1) I have not notice a huge difference in how my clothes fit me and 2) I do not miss the frustration or anxiety I felt when I was weighing myself. In a nutshell my diet goals are to stop eating like an asshole and start using MFP again. I will weigh myself at some point. (Picture Kermit putting on a running shoe) I ran my first 4 mile race last challenge crossing the Bridge of Death. I loved training for the race and did way way better than I thought I would. This has planted a tiny seed of "can I do a longer race?" I might like to try. So for this challenge I would like to play with increasing my mileage and endurance. I found while training for the BOD that the mental game of running for longer than 3 miles for me is the real challenge. I have not worked out the specific mileage goals yet but I will start at no less than 10/week. I usually do between 6 and 9. When I am getting at least one Spin class in it is usually 6, and I was doing around 9/week last challenge. Exercise goal is to run. Just run…maybe bike a little too. I have not been able to make it to Spin class regularly due to work but I will Spin when I can. (Picture a head shot of Kermit, simple and sweet) Last challenge I attended a 4 day training to become certified as a Green Dot trainer for the university I work at. It is the inspiration for this challenge. Being at the training was a great experience. I was able to build relationships with members of the university staff I didn't know and bond more with some I already knew. Being certified is going to allow me to do some training about a topic I am passionate about (violence prevention). I hope that it will help me feel renewed about my job and avoid some professional burnout. The official training is over but there is work to be done to prepare for the first phase of trainings. My professional goal for this challenge is to work on my Green Dot training prep. A specific list is below for anyone interested. I am happy to share information about Green Dot and what it is. I probably will anyway even if you don't want to know. You can just turn that part out. Spoiler I need to refine and practice the following -Personal introduction (students) -Personal introduction (faculty) -Barrier story -90 second elevator description I need to re-read and review materials for faculty overview training Goals: Eat Paleo-ish (Stop eating like an asshole) Track food in MFP Run (at least 10 miles/week) Green Dot prep 5 Quote Ranger/Recruit/Professional Do-gooder Challenge #1, Challenge #2, Challenge #3, Challenge #4, Challenge #5, Challenge #6 Challenge #7, Challenge #8, Challenge #9, Challenge #10, Challenge #11, Challenge #12, Challenge #13, Challenge #14, Challenge #15, Challenge #16 , Current Challenge "The Hardest thing in this world is to live in it. Today was a really good day. I got to sleep in a little. I still only got 8hrs of sleep though because I got called for work and woken up at 12:45am. The weather was beautiful, almost 70, so I went for a RWR on the bike path near my house. I did 4 miles in 41:26 (mile times 10:44,10:25,10:15, 9:59) I wish it felt better but it was a pretty much perfect day. I did my normal Sunday adulting and food prep. Now all that is left to do is to curl up with my furry beastie and watch TWD. Today was also a grain free, gluten free, sugar free day. My first in a very very long time… 5 Quote Ranger/Recruit/Professional Do-gooder Challenge #1, Challenge #2, Challenge #3, Challenge #4, Challenge #5, Challenge #6 Challenge #7, Challenge #8, Challenge #9, Challenge #10, Challenge #11, Challenge #12, Challenge #13, Challenge #14, Challenge #15, Challenge #16 , Current Challenge "The Hardest thing in this world is to live in it. honeybadger
Today was a good day. Honestly work was a bit tough but I am channeling my inner Tank and choosing to have a good day. Work aside, I got 3 miles in at the gym, managed to avoid Halloween candy and sugar in general. It is also one day closer to Thanksgiving break. That's it because I am focusing on the positive. 23 hours ago, Phoenix Burning said: Heeeyyyy!!!! There you are! Here I am! honeybadger
Today was a good day. Work was better. I had a bunch of meetings get cancelled which doesn't happen often. I successfully wasted my extra free time and I don't feel bad about it. I also got work done on my car today and had a great experience with a new mechanic who was super professional, honest and efficient. As a woman I have had some bad experiences in the past and was pleasantly surprised and also saved some money. I also managed to make a fool out of myself as I tripped and almost fell out the door after dropping my car off. Fortunately, the manage was there to witness this and to reassure me that it happens to people all the time. Day 4: no sugar! I did have rice in my dinner but probably only 1/4 cup. It was mixed into the meal so it is hard to say exactly how much. This week I have been at or under calories each day. Starting strong. 23 hours ago, Phoenix Burning said: Avoiding Halloween candy is a feat worthy of a medal, I think. A medal made of chocolate perhaps? 23 hours ago, Xena said: That is quite an advanced move :-) Might be too much for me but I am giving it a shot. So far so good. My BF brought home candy after taking the kids trick or treating. On our snack counter (yes we have a counter devoted to snacks) is a small pile of reece's peanut butter cups…mocking me…testing my willpower... 21 hours ago, Tanktimus the Encourager said: Jean-Luc *swoon* 3 Quote Ranger/Recruit/Professional Do-gooder Challenge #1, Challenge #2, Challenge #3, Challenge #4, Challenge #5, Challenge #6 Challenge #7, Challenge #8, Challenge #9, Challenge #10, Challenge #11, Challenge #12, Challenge #13, Challenge #14, Challenge #15, Challenge #16 , Current Challenge "The Hardest thing in this world is to live in it. honeybadger
Today was a really good day! I got a free pumpkin spice latte from the Starbucks at school! Not really in line with my no sugar goal but it actually was not super sweet. I stopped drinking it 3/4 of the way through when it got too sweet. It was pumpkin, coffee, and free…I could not resist. It did not trigger my sweet tooth or send me to the candy bowl at work. I also made it to spin class for the first time in weeks. Class was great…and tomorrow is Friday. 3 Quote Ranger/Recruit/Professional Do-gooder Challenge #1, Challenge #2, Challenge #3, Challenge #4, Challenge #5, Challenge #6 Challenge #7, Challenge #8, Challenge #9, Challenge #10, Challenge #11, Challenge #12, Challenge #13, Challenge #14, Challenge #15, Challenge #16 , Current Challenge "The Hardest thing in this world is to live in it. honeybadger
OMG! I didn't realize that I hadn't posted anything since Thursday. The end of my week was forgettable. Week 1 was a good week! Goals: Eat Paleo-ish (Stop eating like an asshole)- I did pretty well here. I felt way more in control of my diet and made good choices. My sugar in discretions were as follows: 3/4 of a pumpkin latte I got for free, 1 Reece's cup and 1 a halloween pack of muddy buddies. The candy was while watching a movie (Star Trek Beyond). Is this enough to put me in the eating like an ass category? I don't think so. Track food in MFP- All food tracked. I was under my calories for the week. I would like to be more consistent. There were days that I did not eat enough. That rarely happens but I definitely want to be more aware of this. Run (at least 10 miles/week)- I only ran 7 miles (4 were RW miles) because I made it to spin class. I have decided that if I make it to spin class that 7 miles is acceptable as long as I get a long run in. I figure 1 spin class can sub for 3 miles running. I also don't want to miss a spin class only to get miles in. Green Dot prep- I have an almost complete personal statement, just needs some editing. I will run it through a few times to see how it flows and then make any necessary changes. I have also scheduled my certification for the 28th of November. I hard deadline will help. So far this week I did a long run on Sunday. I did 4 miles in 43ish minutes on the dreadmill. I did another 3.5 miles today also on the dreadmill. I hope I can run outside this weekend if my schedule and the weather cooperates. I have become a fan of RWRing. I didn't think it would happen when I set it as a goal this summer. I already miss it. Today was a hard day at work. My first meeting of the day really threw me off and I just was not myself. My boss was super supportive so I am grateful. The good part of the day was that I pushed through and went to the gym. I was able to zone out and forget all about my day. I ran it off!!! Then I went to vote. No line, no waiting. Today ended as a pretty good day! 2 Quote Ranger/Recruit/Professional Do-gooder Challenge #1, Challenge #2, Challenge #3, Challenge #4, Challenge #5, Challenge #6 Challenge #7, Challenge #8, Challenge #9, Challenge #10, Challenge #11, Challenge #12, Challenge #13, Challenge #14, Challenge #15, Challenge #16 , Current Challenge "The Hardest thing in this world is to live in it. honeybadger
Sorry I have been MIA…this has been a tough week. My alter ego Grumplore took over temporarily. I hope to get caught up this weekend and get back to myself. UGH! Work has been very difficult and my diet has suffered. I have been eating more. I have been eating sweets. I have been eating my stress. I would like to blame work and hormones rather than take proper responsibility. That being said today was a good day for the following reasons: It is Friday. It is one day closer to Thanksgiving and the beginning of the weekend. I made it to the gym after work and ran another 4 miles (42:17). That makes 11.5 miles for the week. Running goal Rangered!! If it weren't for a phone call and boredom I felt like I could have easily run more. That is kinda awesome. I have some adulting to do tomorrow and I need to work on my Green Dot goals. I also need to work on an attitude adjustment. I'll try to work that in between buying a new vacuum and baking banana bread.
