Darkfoxx 32: Is 2016 Really Almost Over?

I can't believe 2016 is really almost over. I feel like I've done absolutely nothing and here it is ... December.

Last challenge cycle saw a return to a somewhat normal routine - and a whooooooole lot of body nonsense due to a diet shift. 

 

I'm banking on my body having gotten its collective shit together for this cycle, so I can f-o-c-u-s on rebuilding (yet again) my fundamental good habits. 

 

My goals will not be shockers for any long-time (or even short-time) followers -- I'm sticking to the framework that has been working for me. 

 

OOOOH. And since this challenge ends on New Years', I get to do a massive spreadsheet of health again! *runs off to pick colors and grab info feeds*

 

Goal 1: Work Out. 

 

So, getting back to an HIIT program completely failed last challenge. Let's get entrenched with something my brain perceives as less effort: yoga. 

 

I'll be participating in Stacy's 30 Days of Yoga challenge again this year, so you can look forward to lots of dog yoga shots. That was fun. 

 

I'm also looking to do an actual yoga practice 3x a week this cycle. At least 1 hour-long class + 1 - 2 at least 30 minute classes, with 15 minutes being swapped in if absolutely necessary. 

 

Goal 2: Macros. 

 

I switched my macros up last challenge and tried keto - keto was not always nice to my body, but I am liking incorporating more fat into my diet. I'm curious to see if I can eat enough fat to make my skin not itchy and scaly since Winter Is Here. 

 

Updated Macros
 

Not worrying about calories, but looking to stick under 1,500 unless that clashes with my fat goals

20g or under net carbs

70g or under protein

varying percentages of fats 

 

Ideally, I'm looking to screw with my pie chart. I want to try varying percentages of fat to see how I feel - I'm taking Zero Week as time to get myself acquainted with my pie chart and see what I'm averaging as-is so I know how to bump this up.

Goal 3: Get A Damn Job

 

I'm *still* un-em-damn-ployed. I will be working every weekday to change that fact and will be reporting the number of jobs I'm applying for, the numbers of interviews I have, and anything else I'm doing here for accountability. 

 

I'll also be starting assistant teaching a front-end web development course starting halfway through this cycle, so will be reporting on that - and will be ready for Internet Side Eye if I let that get in the way of applying for actual real jobs. 

 

Plus, that damn free work company is still going strong - and they're of course wanting more of my time as things ramp up and we near Beta launch. This is fine, but it can't suck all my time until it generates a paycheck.

Solid goals. I'm learning that sticking to what works, no matter how simple it may seem, is always a good thing and almost always a challenge no matter what. Following along :)

I found you!  You thought you could run away and hide in this new thread but I found you!  (ahem, using the link you supplied, you sneaky minx).

 

I didn't realize there was a yoga challenge, I'm 100% in!  Also, the fact that I didn't know about this makes me realize I can't remember the last time I got an NF email and I should probably look into that...

Goal 1

Did a 40-ish minute chest opener routine from DoYogaWithMe - around, over, beside & despite the dog.

Macros were good-ish. Still playing.

Calories looked a little high, carbs were fine, protein was too high (41.9%), and fat was a little low? (51%).

Found out I'm wildly overbooked a day next week with events - aaaand can't really attend any of them, since I have something to do for my GA teacher assistant thing. Booooo. One involved dressing like a grownup + cocktails while contemplating getting involved with my school's alumni society.

Goal 1: Yogas

Did a 15 minute series on balances - which I am still poo at. The chick had some great alignment cues for mountain I seriously need to practice.

Totally almost bailed because I was busy dicking around with my blog until 5:30, but didn't want to start this fresh challenge off by being a slacker.

Goal 2: Macros

Today was my next-to-last day of my Keto experiment. I was high in calories, but wanted the extra snack.

1519.25 of 1318 calories

19.43 of 20g net carbs

62.31 of 70g protein

125.54 of 106g fats

Breakfast: Peanut butter spinach smoothie + coffee

Lunch: Big ass salad with turkey & lime vinaigrette

Dinner: Turkey & Cauliflower hash

Snack: Semi-successful pumpkin pie fat Bombs

Goal 3: Get A Job

I've hit my application goal for the week.

Worked on a problem solving challenge most of the day.

Almost did work for the free company - opened the program.

Booked a couple more screener interviews.

Had a screener interview that went pretty well (well enough that I immediately got a problem solving challenge). It was with a huge company and the tech recruiter has an interesting perspective on the culture and how the company works.

Still have not heard back from the job with the fantastic interviews.

Got rejected by the red flag company who expected me to code challenge over the weekend. It was anticipated and I'm 100% fine with that.

Yoga class was great as usual. Balance. I need to work on balance.

Oops. Carbs were a bit over - but that extra Tablespoon of coconut aminos with dinner was damn worth it.

Had 2 phone interviews: an initial screen which I think went well -- it was a recruiter set-up and I kept the guy laughing. The other was a second round with the large corporation (first besides the screening call from the tech recruiter) and I know I've been passed on to two other separate members of the team I think today.

Also had a 'here is where you find your resources' video chat for the TA gig.

And I got some work done on making the clickable prototype for the free company.

Yesterday

Goal 1: Yoga Errrr'y Damn Day

Day 1 of the December Yoga Challenge

Practiced Mountain with the pup (which is hella hard when you only have 10'seconds to get into the correct pose + this is your third try so you've lifted and carried a fat wiener you're also trying to keep calm a couple times.

Then I set my timer for 10 minutes and worked on foundational things like wrist mobility, crow setups, handstand raises, and then almost pulling my quad + really quick working to stretch that thing out while trying not to panic.

Goal 2: Macros

Food was good, despite the day being busy

Breakfast: keto flaxseed cinnamon roll muffin fried in bacon fat because it was dry + coffee

Snack: Extra coffee

Late-Ass Lunch: Pork Rind crusted chicken thigh + guac

Dinner: Thai green curry with turkey

Snack: 2 coconut fat bombs

1299 calories

51.4% fat

37.7% protein

10.8% carbs

Goal 3: Get A Job

Had a free company meeting that was so frustrating I almost needed whiskey. How hard is it do do the things you said you've been doing for a solid month???? Super frustrating day, but at least the team sees its toooootally not me that is the holdup, despite what the person who is actually the holdup says.

Got a formal rejection from the "perfect" company. Didn't cry about it. Came home and ranted to the DH - whom I had also gotten in a huge fight with that morning (didn't pick the fight, also didn't escalate it - much - ok, so mebbe i did upon thinking about it).

Booked an in-person interview for today somewhere else + another solid interview next week and had a semi-productive recruiter call.

Yesterday

Goal 1: Yoga Eerrrr'y Damn Day

Got my 10 minutes in while in bed after I finally got home around 10:30/11.

I had a busy day.

Goal 2: Macros

Protein was too high, I ate at all the wrong times - breakfast, lunch around 4:30, then again at 7 or so - but I still felt fine all day, and had enough energy to deal with meeting shenanigans + a 3-hour long gauntlet onsite interview.

And then I met some friends for drinks, stuck to Keto, and limited myself to a single glass of wine.

Breakfast: One of my DH's breakfast sandwiches - cream cheese pancakes, egg, sausage & half a slice of cheese + coffee

Lunch: Hit up a hot bar place for: grilled chicken, broiled white fish, sautéed asparagus, a stellar kale & blackberry salad, and roasted Brussels.

Dinner: A glass of wine! Beef tartare, a couple bites side salad greens, and a side of steamed veggies with butter.

1251.25 calories

43% fat

48.2% protein

8.9% carbs

Goal 3: Get A Job

Had another frustrating meeting with the free people - and had to lay down the law with the person controlling access to the Ukrainian elves re: following my wireframes and only my wireframes and tabling his input until my GD wireframes have been coded.

He picked yesterday - after MONTHS of knowing what the site was going to entail to try and weasel out of making all the pages that need made in the time allotted. "Well ... we could do it if you provide the HTML ..." Beeyotch, that was the I initial plan until we paid your elves to do it. Now there is no time for me to do everything at once and do it well.

He's lucky he wasn't there in person. The rest of the company would have held him while I actually choked him instead of miming it.

So, I'm allllllll spun up, missed my free lunch ---

Then I had to go to the windiest damn part of town ever for a gauntlet interview.

Which actually went really well. I had enjoyed speaking to the boss on the phone - and it was great to see he's as laid back and funny in person as he was on the phone. The rest of the team was good too - talked CSS and opinions regarding frameworks with the lead front End dev, talked back End stuff and concepts of how things like Ruby and node work with a full stack java guy, talked product with the product lady, and UI and design with the UI person.

The office wasn't bad - they're working all the time to modernize and have switched to those short-walled cubey things that are kind of like an open office but with some division (which I'm cool with - open laptops on a table sounds horrid). Plus: OMFG the view. Should have taken a pic, but I was busy chatting. And jeans! The boss was in jeans and a hoodie.

Did I mention that this is a front end dev job - not product/project management, not implementation, not even UI - dev. With the opportunity to be a part of a growing team, help where all my skills are needed, and be a part of implementing systems.

I know. We've been here before.

This interview was through a recruiter - he already got hella positive feedback and there is a very short list left of interviews to go (like 1).

Trying not to get too excited, But Fingers. Fucking. Crossed.

Yesterday

Goal 1: Yoga

Grabbed my 10 minutes of yoga before ever leaving bed, and then continued on with sporadic lunge stretches throughout the day.

Goal 2: Macros

Food was decent, but again too protein heavy. The DH wanted BBQ, and while I definitely controlled my portions, not enough to not eat too much protein.

Breakfast: Lemon Quest Bar (which have not been making my stomach have issues despite being filled with whey - yay!) + coffee

Lunch: Egg & ham roll-up

Dinner: Smoked chicken, pork shoulder & pork belly + collards

Snack: Pumpkin pie fat bomb

Snack: Tea with coconut oil

Snack: Tea with butter

1046.85 calories

47.1% fat

46.3% protein

Goal 3: Get A Job

No work here - weekend!
