Who doesn't want to be a Girlmore Girl?

But wish as I might, I can't just become a Gilmore Girl.  I just don't have the training.  For the last challenge of 2016 I am just looking for some handrails to get me to the end of this caper in relatively one piece.  I have more healing to do before I am ready to kick some 2017 ass and December usually tries to kick my ass.  So my goal here is to set a minimum standard in hopes of keeping my head above water and minimize the damage from the holidays.  

 

Don't Eat Like a Gilmore

No SMART goals here.  Just do the best I can with what's available.  Most days this should follow my variable daily calorie goal but for those holiday party and travel days it's basically just be sensible.  Pick higher protein, less processed food choices.  Go ahead and have some treats but keep them to a minimum.  

I will also keep logging on MFP.  I am shooting for a 365 day streak on MFP and I'm not about to give up on it now. 

 

The Great Cookie Solution

Baking Christmas cookies is a huge part of my family's traditions.  In recent years we have made efforts to bake less cookies but even if each person picks 1 type of cookie that is their favorite, we end up with 8 kids of cookies.  I don't yet know what the Great Cookie Solution will be but while I am with family over Christmas I need to initiate some protocols to keep the cookie eating in check. 

 

Don't Workout Like a Gilmore

I'll continue my daily activity goal.  Anything counts but I'd prefer to get to the gym for some lifting twice a week but this isn't mandatory.  Rucking, yoga, walking, heavy house work, walking the mall Christmas shopping...whatever. Just do something.  

I've also seen some Gilmore girls workouts where you do different exercises depending on what's going on during an episode.  

 

Don't Drink Like a Gilmore

I may not be a coffee drinker but I like my caffeine.  When I am on holidays or when I am stressed I tend to drink more diet soda than anything else.  Drink some water already! I don't know what I mean the goal to be but I'd like to be aware of it and choose water over diet soda a couple times a day.  

 

 

Tie up Those Loose Ends

I made a lot of progress on my 2016 roadmap.  There are some things that didn't accomplished but for some I've realized it wasn't the right time, others will get migrated to the 2017 Roadmap but there a few I'd like to finish up this challenge

Finish the last short story in that book

Post a summary of 2016 accomplishments

Also, in an effort to prepare for 2017 goals I want to use this challenge to track a few key habits

Sleep - just count number of hours of sleep

Spending - I want to find an app that will help track my spending and my budget.

I debated not having a spreadsheet this time around.  I mean, it's not very Gilmore but I guess the theme of the challenge is to be anti-Gilmore.  And I just can't help it.  I've decided to track weight again but I really want to view it is a tracking only.  My goals this time around aren't really aggressive enough for significant weight loss but I'd like to see the picture of how this works out over the holidays.  And perhaps having to post it will make me think twice about extra cookies over Christmas.  I'd be happy with my weight being anywhere under 240 by the end of the year.  It's not ideal but that would be the same as my pre-Thanksgiving weight giving me a net 0 for the holidays.  I do reserve the right to stop tracking it if it becomes a mental block and a hindrance to my goals (obviously)

Gilmore Girls! I haven't watched it in yeeeears, and I think I only ever got 2/3 seasons in. I didn't have the rest of the DVDs :( But apparently the new mini season is out, and its really good?

 

Also, great goals! You can finish 2017 strong! :D Do it like a Gilmore!

Do you have your 2016 roadmap posted somewhere? I was thinking of making something like this for 2017 and examples are helpful when coming up with ideas

It is. It's the link in my sig that says 'epic quest'. It was really helpful this year. My goals may not have all been the same each challenge but they were all aimed in the same direction.

Hi!  I watched all the seasons a couple of times through and now I'm watching them again with my daughter.  So far I've watched 3 of the new episodes.  I was really excited for them but I'm not sure I'm in love with them like the old seasons.

I've never seen Gilmore Girls, but I did Wikipedia search it. Glad it is something you can watch with Peach!

It's a great show, no matter what Sloth says.  I highly recommend it.

Don't Eat Like a Gilmore 

I followed my planned menu all day but I was hungry before bed.  I had a 'little' snack of some cheese, crackers, and fig jelly.  It turned out to be 350 calories.  But that's the only snack I had all day and I measured and put just what I needed on a plate rather than eat crackers out of the box.  Calories were 1842 but protein was high, 145 compared to 101 carbs.  I figure I'll need to wean myself down from last week's high calories anyway so I'm happy with that.  

 

Don't Workout Like a Gilmore

I Gilmored this one.  No work out.  Monday is my busiest day and then I started getting a migraine in the evening.  Not that it is an excuse, I had already decided I wasn't doing any workout or had put any thought of a workout out of my mind.  Still, it's only Day 1 and a Monday.  I'll do better today.  

 

Don't Drink Like a Gilmore

I had the usual diet soda with lunch and afternoon snack with a decent amount of water in between.  Dinner was 2.5 sodas.  The first 2 went with dinner and then the remaining half was when LordShello donated the rest of his so I could take my migraine stuff.  Drinking more water would be a good idea but I'd say I hit the minimum.  

 

Loose Ends

No reading, no decluttering

 

2017 Roadmap

Sleep - last night I got 7.5 hours of sleep.  That's only because I had to get to sleep due to the migraine.  I'm sure I would have stayed up later if not for that.  I only got 6.5 the night before and I'm not sure which night to count for Monday.  

 

Spending -  No spending yesterday.  I did download an app - Goodbudget.  I'm not sure it's what I'm looking for although I'm not sure what I'm looking for.  Goodbudget basically lets you set up a budget using the envelope system and then it just keeps track of each envelope.  As you spend money you have to manually log your transactions and assign it to an envelope.  That seems like more work than I need.

LordShello wouldn't sit down and watch it on his own but since I commandeered the TV over the holidays to start watching the new episodes, he got hooked and won't let me watch the last episode without him. ;)  He's seen enough of the shows in passing from me watching it so he knows characters and understands the wit and humor.
