Also, coming up, getting excited for my gym's Flip-o-thon to benefit Family Reach in two weeks. Family Reach is an organization that provides support to families that have children battling cancer. Its basically seeing how many times we can flip all the big tires at the gym in a 3hr span...so much fun!

@raptron @RisenPhoenix @Kishi...want to come relive all that fun you had with Baby Huey?! I know it was oh so much fun the last time :)

I am considering it! I have some friends in town that weekend, but it might be able to work out.

Congrats again on the engagement. :D

Congrats man!  Everybody's getting married!  I'm glad you and Tank both get to join my world of unending decisions about color schemes and this cake over this slightly different cake and such.

Do you have a date in mind yet?

We are looking at almost 2 years from now actually. I want to finish my Masters degree this summer without the stress of wedding planning plus we want a fall wedding and obviously a nice location so we are likely going to be in October 2018 to give us time to find a place and plan something we really want rather than rushing.

Okay I kind of absolutely love the idea of you guys doing a big round of atlas stones and axl presses and crazy ass strongman stuff and then high fiving the dust and chalk away before scampering off to taste tiny pretty cakes and smelling flower arrangement. ADORBS. #hedoesboth

Kind of along the same lines: we got our engagement photos back and this was my favorite. I just told the photographer to be ready, tossed her over my shoulder and walked off.

Totally stealing that! I have a very similar picture but with our christmas tree the other morning, not nearly as romantic lol. My fiance is obsessed with it and I think she instagrammed it. I was just proud that a full christmas tree felt crazy light even to shoulder and carry into the house!

Nice!  I recently did something similar with our fake tree, albeit much less gracefully as I was dumb and just put it in the basement with all the lights and garland still on it last year.   There was much cussing.

Also, for the food porn promise...here is the results from slow cooking a brisket last night. All I did was rub the brisket with salt, pepper, and a bit of coffee, seared both sides very fast, then caramelized an onion to line the bottom of the slow cooker, added a splash of red wine and beef broth and added more onions on top. 8 hrs later this morning...perfection!(except the picture isnt the best, but my insta story has before and after!)

It doesn't disappoint! I've been toying with doing this for a couple of weeks and now you've bumped it up the list ;)

Had car issues yesterday which apparently did not fully get resolved because my check engine light came on again this morning. So I worked from home while the car was in the shop and did not get around to making any updates on here :(

So yesterday I got back into the gym for bench day. The main set was heavy triples at 70, 80, and 90% which were all solid. Breezed through the 70% and 80% sets. The 90% triple was at 230lbs and the first two were fine. The third was a major grind but I did get it locked out on my own. My coach was spotting and started to reach in and I accidentally yelled at him to back off...he said he was never more proud. After that we did some accessory dip, ring row, BB row and plate raise accessory sets. Then it was time for something new and exciting...an actual conditioning set with the Steel Clubs! Coach has an obsession with gym toys that stems from his love of kettlebells which has given us the steel maces and now these steel clubs. I started with a 20lb club which I quickly learned was a mistake. It felt ok at the start but got hard FAST! We did an 8min set where we did 4 rounds of 4 exercises for 30sec each, all of which mainly targeted shoulders, and I was struggling half way in both from cardio and strength endurance. They are a definitely a good workout and look forward to using more of them to help build shoulders as I find that to be a weak spot. The DOMS is certainly real today.

Food was pretty solid yesterday. I was a couple hundred calories under my target goal, maybe a little too under for a workout day but I still felt satisfied. Macro-wise, I am still a bit unbalanced. Protein is a bit low, with a weekly average around 180ish grams. But I am happy the calorie amounts are settling in at good numbers so fixing the macros will be a future task. I dont want to start stressing and focusing on having perfect macros again because then I will just fall back towards what I was doing in the past.

With all this food under better control, I am starting to see that work translate into results on the scale! I was down to 322.2lbs this morning. Besides the drop in weight, looking in the mirror feels good, because even with just this 5-6 pounds in the last few weeks, my stomach looks noticeably toner because that is where a majority of my weight remains and gets dropped from.

Onwards to continuing these trends to close out the week. Heavy deadlifts tomorrow I think which I am excited about!

Here is a big video of exercises that covers all the variations we did that I will reference

During the conditioning set it was :30 seconds each of the following for 4 rounds no rest :sorrow:

A: Halo Pullover - See #8  - We did similar variation but it was slower and more controlled pattern overhead

B: Barbarian Squat - See #10 - This reminded me of zercher squats of which I am not a fan due to their difficulty

B: Side to Side Press - See #7 - We pressed to each side instead of straight ahead. Oh my shoulders are sore just remembering these.

D: Shoulder Cleans - See #3 - We did not have to do the squat in between. More so like a kettlebell swing/clean up to the shoulder and then bump it off back into a swing.

So I am severely lacking in this whole challenge update department. I am silently plugging away at my challenge goals though which is pretty good.

Weight - Withings with their nice little weekly update email says that my average weight this week was 324.9lbs for a 1.3lb decrease over the week.

Workouts - I dont think I even got a Friday update in because I had a busy day at work. It indeed was a heavyish deadlift day and I was ready for it! Working weight was heavy triples at 70, 80, and 90%. Crushed all three sets. I tried to look back and see what my last set of triples was but I think that this was a PR...I pulled 420lbs for a triple pretty clean all the way around. Last time I did something close was 3 singles at 420lbs but they werent rapid fire like this set which was a true 3rep. Video was taken on my coaches phone so I am trying to get it from him without destroying the quality.

Saturday was a straight shoulder blast. Same rep scheme for OHP as deadlifts the day before. I estimated a 1RM of 160 which I am thinking now may be a bit low. The triples were really easy and barely any noticeable tiredness. So from there I wanted to keep up the shoulder movement so went to push presses. I decided to make this a 5x5 with weights at 135,145,155,165,175. All of those went swimmingly as well. Then to end things off because I had not done enough shoulder work...circus dumbell time! Started with a 3 x 5 of 55lbs with each arm. Then started trying to find a max which mainly meant using right arm. 65lbs was no problem which is strange because that sometimes gives me issues depending on the day. Some days 65lbs is too heavy other days(like Saturday) it was toss around weight. So I started loading the bell up in 10lb increments. Got 75 and 85lbs pretty handily. Then I decided I wanted to go for a big time mark of 100lbs. Previously I had not even loaded the dumbell so even the 75lbs was a solid start for the day but I was feeling really focused and strength felt like it was there. I gave it 5 or 6 solid attempts but could not get it locked out. I did not quite have enough leg drive into the press to fully lock out my arm while still staying balanced and keeping my core tight. I reallyyyy did not want to drop that dumbell on my head which I came very close to doing multiple times. So after the failed attempts, I dropped the weight back down to 90lbs and had a success there for a new PR by 25lbs.

Food - Decent this week but not my best efforts. Average was a bit over due to some sick day snacking and social events. We went out to dinner and a holiday party this weekend but then I also was/am battling a sore throat and cold and really only wanted to eat cookies and ice cream and other junks. So I let that slip a bit. I did not track very well so there is a knock there for challenge goals but overall, I am still losing weight at just over a pound a week so not feeling too down about any of the missed items with food. Clearly it has not been excessive bad eating like in the past where I am packing in back to back days of 4000 calories on the weekends. Also I got my meal prep in last night...tried out a bit of a change for breakfast and went with egg white cups that have turkey and kale in them as a way to add a little veggie to my typical turkey burger breakfast. I was running around after the snow this morning so it was a sub shop lunch today but the rest of the week I baked up some chicken and some carnival squash to tops some salads in an attempt at a nice fall harvest/early winter kind of feeling.

Others - did a couple of mobility sessions over the weekend just to make sure I didn't tighten up after the heavy deadlifts and to relax a bit with my cold. Everything is still feeling really solid...no knee pain in almost two weeks now!

Ohh and I got some new supplements courtesy of my coaches coach. I am running two supplements from Nova3 Labs called Max Adrenal and Max Capacity. The Adrenal is a once a day supplement that is supposed to help increase brain function and boost hormonal balance. Haven't quite been able to tell if this one is working yet after about a week. The Max Capacity is designed to boost workouts by enhancing focus and increasing endurance. The main ingredient is Alpha-GPC which I find I am sensitive to and definitely helps me focus in the gym. The best way I can describe it is a less serious adderall feeling but focuses me in that way which I find helpful to maintain strong mental attitude going into lifting. I will stick with these for a little while at least until I cant get the coupons anymore because without them they are like $90 a month which is silly. Will continue to monitor and see how it goes.

That 100lb circus DB is super elusive.  95lbs: no problem psychologically or physically.  100lbs:  going to turn myself into Glenn from Walking Dead.

Those push press 5x5 sets are monstrous.  Well done sir.

Lol, too soon.

Edit - I take it back, that was a minute ago. I think I stopped caring after that episode - they did some interesting stuff in the next episode, but I'll wait for the season to end before I bother watching more. The writers are tired and are out of schticks. I don't mind tragedy and pathos, arguably the best episodes were the one with Denise, or the one with the cabin. But the shallow torture/gore pr0n, it's been done better elsewhere.

Not to completely hijack argski's thread but I haven't watched regularly in like 3 seasons.

I've read the comics up to the point where we are now in the show so I had to look up that scene and watch it.  They did a good job with it.  I need to catch up on the comics but I feel no need to do so with the show.  I wasn't a big fan of how they wrapped up the prison/Governor season compared to the comics.

Sorry Argski. Back to regularly scheduled programing. Also, yeah, that governor arc was such a grueling slog to get through.

So if Saturday was a great workout, this morning was lower than low. Thought yesterday that my cold was gone for the most part but it came back with a vengeance when I woke up this morning. But I made the executive decision to go to the gym anyways to make sure I did something at least physical. I adjusted accordingly (so I thought) for being sick and having that diminish some strength. It was supposed to be a close max effort bench day. 5,3,1 at 75,85,95% with a max of 270 which I degraded to 260 because of feeling crappy. So I managed the set of 5 fine but then for the set of 3 which was at 225lbs, I only managed two reps. So coach suggested instead of a single to combine that with the one remaining missed rep and do 3 singles at the same weight instead. So final rep scheme ended up being 5,2,1,1,1. Accessory work was dips and plate raises again. Conditioning almost killed me...I was huffing and puffing after like 30 seconds because of the cold. Hoping it settles down so I feel good for Friday deadlifts and tire flipping on Saturday.

Food is still being impacted by being sick. I've only really been eating comfort food(read: junk) for a few days now. But in general, I have been pretty decent calorie wise with nothing over 3000 since the start of the week. I just don't have the motivation to both cook healthy and try to recover from my cold. Hoping to get back on track with this too in the next few days as the cold recedes.

Because the food has been a bit higher than my 2600 goal, I am seeing a leveling off of the weight loss. Still sitting right at around 324 which I am not upset about. I am glad that it is staying constant and not going back up.

Other stuff is still going fine. I actually got an extra day of movement yesterday because I had to give a presentation at UMass Boston for work and didnt want to park down there so I took the train. The train is a good 25min walk from my apartment and my backpack was loaded up with my laptop and a bunch of show and tell gear. Probably around 20lbs if I had to guess which ended up being a good impromptu ruck. Knee still feeling good although my shoulders were feeling wonky at the gym this morning. Like a strong pulling sensation during barbell rows which was strange and caused me to stop those. Could just be tiredness from the cold but watching that regardless.

Last time I walked from the T to the main campus of UMB, I got lost and wound up having to climb a fence because I was running late. It is definitely more active than one would expect to get there. XD

Hope you feel better soon. Sorry today's workout was no bueno. KNOW THAT FEEL.
