I'm going without a theme for this challenge. They go to hell in two days anyway :P

Goals will remain the same: CrossFit and Nutrition. In addition to that I'll add a third, looser goal called “Start the World”. I' ve recently finished reading “The Way of Men” by J. Donovan.

Donovan is an author whose books I refused to read because of ideology incompatibilities. You know, the whole white supremacy, anti-feminism thing made me a tad uncomfortable. I decided to give it a chance; after all if it turned out to be total crap it would only cost me 6 bucks.

I devoured the book(yes, even the rather disgusting bits) in two sittings and to be honest I really enjoyed it. What's more, it made me realize how I've neglected the development of the “tactical virtues”. Just as an example, I've not even once practiced the fire starting and shelter making techniques I learned during No Fear of the Setting Sun, my camping axe(which used to be my grandfather's) still has the crude handle I was going to change a million years ago and remains embarrassingly dull. I' have not lit up the forge in forever... you get the point.

So the goal will be oriented towards investing some of my time in training and developing my “primal manly self”. If you wanna read on the subject but don't feel like buying Donovan's book or putting up with anti-feminist bullshit I recommend you visit The Art of Manliness and read the articles about honor, manly virtues, tactical virtues(and pretty much everything else because is the best blog evah)

The battle log style of posting worked out well last time, so I'm sticking with it

11/30/2016 - Week 0 Day 3

Workout: I skipped CF because I felt sick and with a really stuffy nose. Later on I remembered i had arranged to go work out with a friend of mine who asked me for exercise advice. By that time I was feeling better so we met at the park and worked out. The dude is an accomplished jiu-jitsu fighter, he just does not know how to program for himself, so I couldn't just coypaste Steve's basic bodyweight workout. I fashioned a workout consisting of squats, pushups, dips... you know, the usual thing. No need to reinvent the bicycle here.

He was worried about pullups and chin ups, which he hadn't done before- I never had a doubt he'd get them no problem: Is a skinny guy but martial arts made him strong enough to move his own body weight.

Nutrition: Homemade patties and tomato salad for lunch. dinner was roasted chicken breasts and lettuce/tomato/carrot salad. Gotta start planning ahead for holiday season a.k.a. food orgy season. The last thing my BDD-y brain needs right now is fat gain.

Start the World:One of the things I've ever wanted to do is learn how to shoot a gun. Guns are not that common down here. The average citizen has only seen guns from a distance in hands of a police officer. I believe every man should at least have a basic knowledge on how to safely use a firearm, even if he doesn't own one. That's one of the sub-goals for this challenge, learn to shoot or at least start taking practical classes on the subject.

Found a shooting range near by and called earlier today. They dictate shooting classes and apparently have rental guns. I'll do my best to drop by the place tomorrow to ask about fees and -most important- if they require clients to possess a legitimate user firearms license(according to the law is not necessary, but one never knows)

It totally did. The dude is in shape and I wanted to keep up with him, so it turned out a pretty intense workout.

12/01/2016 - Week 0 Day 4

Workout:

Strength: Front Squats

40kgx6

60kgx6

70kgx4

WOD

-3 Rounds of CINDY

   ¤ 5 Pullups

   ¤ 10 Pushups

   ¤ 15 Squats

-3 Rounds of DT

   ¤12 Deadlifts

   ¤9 Hang Cleans

   ¤6 Jerks

For the pullups I used a resistance band and did them strict. Rx was 50kg/30kg for DT. I used 40. The time cap was 20min and I finished it in about 15. I finished last, after the dudes Rx-ing the thing. Clara, the super badass german ex-gymnast finished first using the prescribed 30kg for women. Even if she used the same elastic band as me for the pullups, the gal is a total beast!

Since we finished 5 minutes earlier than coach expected, he threw in a plank/v-sit tabata.

Nutrition: At the moment of writing this, about  8-10 grams of cashews and a banana, which in total make 144cal. Can't wait to get home and go berserk on my lunch.

I have not been taking any suplements lately and at first I felt no difference, but after a week or so I started noticing a deficit on my recovery. My usual dealer was out of town but at last I'm meeting him tomorrow. The guy buys at the factory and resells through his facebook page and whatsapp chat, but does not have a mortar and brick store, which of course makes the products much cheaper. Besides he sells the national brand I like the most (he also sells USA made suplements but those are beyond my budget).

Start the World: Going to the range later. I 'll keep you updated

Notes: forgot to mention. On Tuesday I finally achived Hand Stand Pushups for reps in a WOD!  4 Rounds of (among a bunch of other stuff) 8 reps. That's why my shoulders are so tired, but I couldn't be happier about it

Hand stand push ups... That even sounds impressive. I have to google them. I myself still try to get my feet against the wall for a handstand. I just can't swing up my legs high enough. :/

Thanks! It took me a whole lot to get my feet against the wall. It's a matter of confidence more than anything else

Thanks! Now my goal is to really get the hang of the kipping HSPs and work toward strict HSPs

12/02/2016  Week 0 Day 5

Workout

10 to 1

Knees to elbows

20 to 11

KB Swings(american)

20 to 11

V- Sit ups

10 to 1

Pistol Squats

For the pistols I'm still supporting myself on a beam

Nutrition: All paleo except for the pizza and beer I just ate.

Start the World: got all the information I needed about the shooting classes. It's kinda expensive, but I can do it once a month without compromising my economy.  And since I'm quitting reenactment and singing classes (they cost me as much as CF, which is too much) I'm thinking about giving Krav Maga a try. I already made contact with a IKMF affiliate in Buenos Aires and as soon as I work it into my shedule I'm gonna drop by the KM gym.

I love your Start the World quests, fire starting, camping, all super cool!! I've often thought survival skills would be a good thing to keep in the old tool box (these thoughts usually only occur with any seriousness while I'm playing Tomb Raider...but still). If you make fire out of anything random and macgyver-esque, pictures or it didn't happen!

12/05/2016 - Week 1 Day 1

Workout:

Strength: Push Press

6x40kg

6x50kg

3x6x40kg

AMRAP 12’

-4 Cleans (50kg)

-8 K2E

-12 HSPUs / Push ups

-Wall supported handstand Tabata

I intended to do as many hspus as I could before burning out my shoulders and I managed the first 12 reps and 4 reps (+2 or 3 failed attempts) of the second round.

The heat and humidity were ridiculous and we were almost passing out by the end of the tabata.

Nutrition: It feels good to have my handy-dandy protein shakes again. Makes me feel replenished and I could swear my recovery is worst the days I don’ t drink my protein. Someof it is probably placebo effect, but is nice nevertheless.

Start the World: Won’t be able to go shooting this week. A friend of mine, who’s been on my “tribe” since we were like 5yo, was going to join the lessons but work has him pinned down at his desk until tomorrow. Thursday and Friday are holiday so the range is closed.

Krav Maga will have to wait too: This week they are teaching a Civilian Instructor Course (CIC).  Class schedule will not be back to normal untill next Tuesday.

I actually posted pictures of makeshift shelters and types of campfire on a previous challenge. I even tried building a hunting trap on my back yard :P  it sounds kinda silly, living in the city and all that, but one does not know when it might come in handy. As Creek Stewart says, "is it’s not IF but WHEN"

12/06/2016 - Week 1 Day 2

Workout:

2 Rounds

-60DU(120SU)

-10 Snatches(30Kg)

-60DU(120SU)

-10 Snatches(30Kg)

-60DU(120SU)

-10 Snatches(30Kg)

Still can't chain together multiple double unders. I should practice more if I intend to  acquire the skill

I engaged in some bro lifting in the evening after my kindle ran out of battery. Played around with bicep curls, barbell rows, chin ups and the like

Nutrition: Cabbage and tuna salad for lunch. Chicken patties and salad for dinner.

Start the World: Finished "Becoming a Barbarian", Donovan's follow-up to "The Way of Men". Edgy and extreme, much in the style of the author, but I could extract really interesting and useful insights.

Started "How To Become A Modern Viking" by Liam Gooding and  I'm already at the last chapters. Gooding has not invented any of the elements comprised by his modern viking system(Which he acknowledges at the very beginning of the book ) but figured a way to lay it all out in a way  the "average dude" won't run away from. His fitness, diet, and lifestyle advice are solid and the book itself it's just entertaining light reading material.

Also, this song + videoclip

Veterans all around the world suffer from the indifference of the people they put their lives on the line for. In the case of Argentina, some Malvinas/Falkland's veterans still roam the streets, deprived of their sanities. Other came back as cripples back in the '80, and yet every government has turned their backs on the country's heroes.

"This is the land of the free, because of the brave"

Although these are American words, they apply to all free countries around the world. I think we all ought to remember and honor the sacrifice of the brave.

I understand the veteran thing. Here in Germany it seems to be even worse. Only because it's a paid job it isn't less of a service for society. I don't get it. I'm usually against militarism, but I still have a lot of respect for people who do this.
