I have no idea what I'm doing yet, but here's a thread.

 

I did update my November challenge spreadsheet with final results if anyone is interested. I posted a short post in my last challenge thread as well.

Here is my challenge. Might be kinda simple compared to others I've done, but it's basically a "survive December lol" plan.

 

Goal 1: not as SMART cause hard to measure, but, goal 1 is basically to be cognizant of my mental/emotional state and take care of myself

Week 0: Decompress from the godawful Thanksgiving and be super kind to myself.

Week 1: Prepare holiday battle plan to not binge on all the treats/take care of my mental state.

Week 2: Recover from the family xmas on the 10th and cope with family time after work during this week. Remind myself I don't suck.

Week 3: Have a phone conversation with my sister about how xmas needs to not repeat thanksgiving, or we don't go.

Week 4: Finish long holiday weekend, then get home and decompress from the drama that is certain to happen. Hopefully not much.

 

Goal 2: daily fitness goal - morning fitness

Same for all weeks.  I want to get 30 mins of activity before work. I wake up super early and want to turn that into gym time.  However, getting steps at home is also acceptable this month.

 

Goal 3: daily fitness goals - getting my steps

10k on non-work days

15k on work days

 

Goal 4: nutrition goal - try new recipes

Guys I have a crock pot, I should use it.

The goal is to try at least 6 new recipes this month.  Should be easily doable, since I have 3-4 planned for just this weekend.  I thought about setting a higher number, but unsure how much cooking I'll be able to do the other weekends this month.

Also, if you need some ideas, in the NF recipe forum, there is a thread specifically for paleo slow cooker recipes (even if your not eating paleo it may spark some ideas). I've tried some and the food is delicious.

Ooh, thanks for the tip!  I love looking at recipes!!

 

Tried a new recipe yesterday, but since it was the day before challenge, I won't count it :P    Slow cooker chicken teriyaki

 

Tried 2 new recipes today so far, with another one planned for dinner

Banana bread - no picture, cause it turned out kinda ugly lol!  I did the lower sugar option (1/2 cup instead of 3/4 cup), and only 2 bananas - next time I'll use 3.

Slow cooker Hawaiian chicken - super yummy, pic attached to post!  I served it on brown rice.

Week One Summary:

 

Goal 1 - Prepare holiday battle plan to not binge on all the treats/take care of my mental state.

This was also covered in the mini.  I plan to track everything on MFP and try not to go over maintenance more than maybe twice.  I was as kind as possible to myself this week.

 

Goal 2: daily fitness goal - morning fitness

Success all five work days.

 

Goal 3: daily fitness goals - getting my steps

Success all seven days.

 

Goal 4: nutrition goal - try new recipes

Made three recipes last week Sunday towards this challenge long goal.

I'm on track with my goals and keeping my spreadsheet updated, though I've been a slacker on the forums, sorry guys. :( This week has been really rough - lots of family time with out of town folks who are visiting (left today), work has gotten slow - like, I'm looking for things to do slow, which makes the days drag.  And I've been just nonstop hungry - or at least, nonstop wanting food. I haven't gone above maintenance, and somehow I lost a little weight this week, but man oh man, all I want to do is EAT EAT EAT.   I am thanking my morning workouts for probably helping me burn a little extra, which is probably why I still lost this week.

Haha, thanks, I love my dishes! I keep meaning to look them up online because half my bowls have chips in them, but I refuse to throw them out!

 

And yes, I have basically been hungry ALL THE TIME for the past month or so.  It kinda sucks!  lol

Last night I was all "wah wah I want to eat a bunch of crap" but I reminded myself that I had a huge cinnamon roll donut thingy at work, and I had fried chicken & potato wedges for lunch, so I stayed on my planned food and didn't make myself feel all crappy. Yay!

 

Today I am stuck in the house so I have been reading/watching things/playing videogames and OMG!  Every weekend it's like I rediscover how much I just want to mindlessly eat all day when I'm just sitting at home!   I guess this is why I historically gain a lot of weight in the winter - with the cold and snow, I don't go out and do things nearly as often unless I absolutely have to (i.e. work) so I tend to have a lot of boredom sitting around the house.   Hoping I can avoid that this year!

Hey Michi! Looks like you are tackling some big stuff this challenge.  Good for you! I hear ya on family drama/challenges.  I also suuuuuper here you on eating all the time when you are bored at home! My work situation has been slower then expected and I am at home more than I want/expect to be.  I find myself... cleaning/tidying keeps me from snacking.  But of course, that can get out of hand as well and turn into a maladaptive coping mechanism too... but so far its working for me :D I think everybody gains a bit of weight during winter... keeps us warm, right??

Thanks Sandylion, and Happy Holidays to you too!  :)   I'm trying to chug water instead of reaching for the snacks.  It works....sometimes.  Heh.

 

Week two is updated on my spreadsheet (see first post).  I had another perfect week in terms of goals, so yay me!

 

Really struggling with my eating this week.  Treats EVERYWHERE.  And I've been indulging.  I'm trying to keep my water intake up and my step count up so that I at least counter SOME of it, but holy hell am I beating myself up.  I think I need to stop trying to reaching my monthly weight loss goal for this month and just try to maintain. That feels like failure, but, I'm trying to be realistic. I don't *want* to deny myself all the seasonal treats, dammit.  But I will keep walking a lot like I did over thanksgiving, and hopefully the damage won't be too bad.

Happy to report the only cookies left at work yesterday were the overly dry ones I didn't like. That sure made avoiding treats easier. 

 

Today is my last day of work until next week Weds, so the break should be nice.

Yesterday was... challenging.

 

I remembered to turn my alarm off so that I didn't wake up at five, and my body continued this week's trend of waking up at 4:30.  So it was a coffee coffee coffee kind of day!  I got everything packed and ready and we got on the road around 11:30.  The snow started around 1:30 and we made it to my sister's around 3:30.  Then I pried my white knuckled hands off the steering wheel and unloaded the car, lol.  The evening was nice, except my BIL made us drinks and holy hell he made them strong/my tolerance is down, and I got what was for a while delightfully tipsy (but not so tipsy I couldn't parent thankfully).  Then it wore off and I got super depressed.  I texted like 20 people "Happy Holidays" but zero of those texts turned into conversation beyond "you too".  Ended up going to bed early because everyone was tired, so I watched a video on my laptop til I passed out, and woke up around 4:30 this morning (ARGH WHY WHY WHY) so I'm hiding out in my guest room until more people wake up.

 

I went over maintenance by about 200-300 calories yesterday, so this trip is off to a great start [/sarcasm].  I weighed 164 yesterday morning. When I get home, I want to weigh 164 dammit.  It's okay if I don't lose weight over these five days of holiday vacation but I WILL NOT GAIN DAMMIT.

I ate/drank about 3,000 calories on XMas Eve,and probably between 3,000-4,000 XMas.  Today it's back to not inhaling everything in sight.   -_-

Yeah, so.... Monday was not how I posted it would be. It was still eat/drink all the things.  Plus the biting wind kept me from the second walk I wanted. 

 

Today I was determined to go back to a deficit, and I am sitting about 100 calories over maintenance.  Probably didn't need to spend 900 calories on breakfast, but my sister really wanted to make me her 800 different cereals and fruits bowl thing and I was trying to bond. At least 95% of today's calories are healthy foods, just larger portions than I should have done. 

 

Tomorrow I go back to work so THANKFULLY I won't be sitting on my ass surrounded by food, instead I'll be on my feet, picking up and carrying heavy things, and only have the food that I pack (and whatever treats people put in the break room... I am praying that most of that would have been eaten today, which I took off).

 

I really, really want to have a good 1/1/17 weigh in.  Although since my son asked to do our traditional NYE Pizza Party, I will either be not eating more than 1 slice of pizza for dinner, or having a horrible sodium bloat going on that morning.


OMG I'M TIRED OF LOSING WEIGHT GUYS.

Pleased that some of the holiday bloat weight has already dropped off, though I don't know what my 1/1/17 weigh in will look like. I am determined to actually eat well the rest of the week dammit!  Maybe even hit the gym, despite my gym buddy being unavailable.  Today is back to work which one the one hand: boo! work! I wanna stay home in my jammies and play video games. But, on the other hand: yay, work means steps, and lifting/carrying things, and being up and active all day.

A bit more bloat weight dropped, I'm not quite to my pre-holiday weight yet, but we'll see what it is on the 1st.  I'm super torn between trying to keep a deficit/watch salty foods/etc and just eating whatever the hell I want for the rest of the week.   I think I will compromise and eat at a deficit and then eat what I want Sunday - mostly that will be letting myself eat the leftover pizza from our pizza party Saturday because I'm just too stressed out at the idea of eating it all Saturday night and waking up to a shitty 1/1/17 weigh in. I probably shouldn't care so much.  Maybe that can be a New Year's resolution (even though I typically don't make those).

 

If anyone's reading, let me know how to make my challenges more interesting so that I get readers/responders. :P I know many folks are off on holidays still, but I feel like my last few challenges I haven't really had much by way of followers.  Not trying to be all attention grabby or anything, I just don't see much point posting to myself all the time, you know?   I am also trying to get better at responding to folks challenges more often, even if its just hitting "like" on the posts to show my support.

I will be hear reading. I started out small trying to make a better habit of following others and recently added 2 more people to that list (you included!!). So I will be here following and at very least liking what your posting :) 

Sadly I don't have any idea. I am kinda going to combine @WritingWeaver and her asking people to contribute and an RPG kind of element to my challenge to try to get more people involved/following
