The Legend of RhiaWolfe: Prepare Thyself

RhiaWolfe

Recommended Posts

When we last left our hero, RhiaWolfe had succeeded in completing her first round of training and finding healthy vegetables to eat for fuel. While she still has difficulty waking up in the morning, she's never late for a training session or event.

She's not quite ready yet to embark on her quest to save Hyrule from evil Gannondorf. More training is required. She must get strong and build endurance to fight her way through mobs of monsters and take on the most challenging dungeons (Water Temple... ugh).

Quest 1: Strength and Endurance

Continue going to the gym/weightlift/workout 4 times a week

link.jpg

Some days, our hero finds herself struggling. Lacking energy to complete her training. She takes out her frustration on nearby bushes, using her sword to separate those leafy greens from the ground!

Quest 2: Eat your Greens

Eat at least one vegetable every day

link.jpg

After destroying several fields of bushes and shrubs, she finds that she has discovered quite a few rupees hidden in the tall grasses. She comes to the store to spend her loot. Stepping into the store she looks around and sees all kinds of things. She has just enough rupees to buy her a shield, an item she desperately needs before heading off on her journey. However, to the left is a red potion... sure she doesn't need any more health right now and can usually replenish it with rest or hearts found in the field... but it tastes REALLY good! No matter that the extra hearts will make it harder for her to stay fit and strong, it's yummy, right? Which will our hero choose?!

Quest 3: Save Rupees

Don't go out to eat more than twice a week. If you do go out more than that, anything above twice a week must be as healthy as possible.

zeldoot7.jpg

(Yes, I know in the picture there's not a red potion, but it sounds better than eating a heart... lol)

Can our hero continue to prepare for her journey and successfully get the training she needs to set off to save Hyrule? We shall see!

Hi Rhiawolfe,

Love the quest-focused theme! I had to look up your references heh, not much of a gamer myself but looking forward to following your challenge. Is there a specific kind of takeout that you have a weakness for? I don't know how you've been working on this but meal prep really helps me avoid eating out too much.

It's not so much that I'm having trouble not ordering takeout... it's more that I have trouble saying 'no' or making healthy choices when friends or family want to go out to eat for social events. I've been working on meal prep and I'm pretty good at eating healthy unless socializing with friends or going out to eat with my husband. I have trouble making healthier decisions if I'm already in a restaurant with bad food. Something I"m trying to work on is either saying 'no' or choosing something healthier on the menu (i.e. soup and salad instead of chicken fried steak.) lol.

Yes, I've decided to make this a quest theme through all of my challenges. The Legend of Zelda is my favorite video game series. My favorite video game of all time is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. If I complete my challenge to satisfaction, I can move forward in the storyline (whatever I decide to make it). If I don't finish a challenge, then I have to repeat it until I complete it and can't move forward with storytelling. I'm using this as a motivator as I like to tell stories and move forward instead of my challenges just being the same thing over and over again. I like trying to take my challenges and fit them into the story somehow. :)

Week 1 Update:

Sunday, 12/4/2016:

Day One of the challenge. I didn't get off to a running start. I was feeling very down and un-motivated yesterday. I was exhausted and didn't want to do anything. While I didn't make it to the gym, I did get a lot of chores taken care of: Grocery Store, filling up on gas, cleaning the rat cage, doing laundry, doing dishes, etc.

Quest 1: Strength and Endurance: I didn't make it to the gym yesterday. I won't be able to make it today either. To complete this quest I will need to go to the gym Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. No excuses! I can still do it! Pending... 0/4

Quest 2: Eat Your Greens: I had a nice wrap for lunch and I included tomatoes and avocado pieces in it. This is something that I normally don't put on my sandwiches (also have never made a wrap for myself either). While "technically" these are fruit and not vegetables since they have seeds, I'm still counting this as my vegetable for the day because they are things that are not as sweet as fruit and are things I normally don't eat (or haven't in the past). Good progress there I think. Success! 1/7

Quest 3: Save Rupees: I did not go out to eat yesterday. All of my meals were made at home. Breakfast: 2 fried eggs and grapes. Lunch: homemade wrap. Dinner: 2 frozen fish fillets. I also had a few healthy snacks throughout the day, such as a bowl of strawberries. Success! 0/2

Following! I love the loz theme! (On a scale of 'batman' to 'children christmas morning' how excited are you for breath of the wild? )

I want to be "children christmas morning" but without really knowing how the Switch works and this game being delayed over and over again... I'm more like the kid passing by the candy store wondering if the lollipops taste as good as they look, debating whether or not to use my allowance to buy it or wait until someone else buys one and tells me whether or not it's yummy. At the same time... the lollipop looks really really really good and I want one so bad!

Thanks! I thought turning into an actual story might help keep me more motivated to keep the story flowing. Eventually my character is going to go journey to save Hyrule going through temples, dungeons, etc. I think it'll be fun!

I love books and storytelling. I enjoy playing tabletop roleplaying for the interactive story telling aspect. :)

Week 1 Update:

Monday, 12/5/2016:

Day 2 and I'm still not doing great. I'm determined to make the rest of the week a win though!

Quest 1: Strength and Endurance: I didn't make it to the gym again. The reason being is because after work I had a therapy session and after that I went with some friends to go see Miyazaki's Spirited Away in Japanese on the big screen! A local movie theater was showing it. It was pretty awesome. It had been a long time since I had seen that movie and I forgot how much I loved it! Pending... 0/4

Quest 2: Eat Your Greens: For breakfast I had my usual 2 eggs and grapes. Lunch I had a sandwich and an apple. My snacks on the other hand were both good and bad. I ended up eating a bag of cheetos and a bag of m&ms... not good. But I DID make myself eat a vegetable. I ate some carrots as a snack. I just need to make healthier choices during the week. Success! 2/7

Quest 3: Save Rupees: Since I had therapy after work and then went to go see the movie with friends, I ended up getting fast food. Taco Bell. The plus side is instead of getting what I used to get (A quesadilla and a cheesy gordita crunch) I only got the quesadilla. When I got to the movie I munched on popcorn and candy though. Bit of a rough day on eating. This does count towards one of my days eating out for the week though. Still doing ok 1/2

Today I plan on going to the gym after work. I will have to restrict myself to not going out to eat until Friday (Friday is date night with the husband). I still got this. A day of weakness isn't the end of the world. (It's really hard right now because I feel like I want to eat all the things today).

Also I have found when going out to eat and I know where ahead of time I can pull up the menu or the nutritional facts and make a decision well ahead of time what I am going to eat. I find it really helps.

That's the problem... most of the time I don't know where I'm going. On date night for example, my husband and I don't decide until we get home from work on what sounds good to eat. Same thing with friends. I am thinking about researching some of our favorite restaurants and see if I can find something I can eat that's fairly healthy... so that I always have a backup for most restaurants.

That sounds like a great plan. One of my favorite local restaurants is Mediterranean, so they're my fallback when I'm looking for healthy food - the grilled chicken salad is bomb. I find that a chicken/steak salad doesn't feel too much like deprivation if the meat is really yummy.

Holidays are the worst! There's three plates of cookies between me and the breakroom at work, and sunday, the lady that lives upstairs is doing serious Christmas cookie baking.

What's a good date night dinner like?

Oh yes, I love storytelling! My friends don't tend to like to exercise... so... it's a tough one.

I love Mediterranean food, but I don't like cucumber or yogurt... Most of the salads I find at Mediterranean restaurants have cucumber and some sort of really sour dressing I don't care for. Maybe if I look for a healthier restaurant.

I really don't have too much trouble saying no to cookies... plus we don't have much at work and I'm not buying any/baking any for this Christmas. I've been pretty fortunate there.

Date night dinner varies. We go to a restaurant. Whatever we decide to do. Mexican at On The Border, Charleston's for a steakhouse, Your Pie for pizza, The Volcano for japanese cuisine (sadly I don't like sushi), Panang for Thai food, B-Won for Korean, Mediterranean Grill for Mediterranean...

Sadly some of these don't have great healthy options...

Eh, sometimes you can just enjoy the date and have a tasty meal, fitness can't just mean eating boring food and causing pain to your body. Some kind of enjoying delicious things has to be in there. Well done.

Yeah, that's why I allow myself to eat out poorly twice a week. (Or at least trying to minimize the amount I go over that). It's just so many people want to get together and get something to eat at an unhealthy restaurant. It can be frustrating, but it's something I'm learning to deal with. That's what this challenge is about for me. I'm challenging myself to make good choices when faced with invites to go out to eat all the time. :)

Another alternative, if it's viable for you, is to have friends to your house so that you control the food. To be fair I suck at this because my house is tiny and I can't really fit guests in it, but it's a thought!

I've thought about doing that sometimes, it's just hard because my husband is very anti-social and really doesn't care for having company. It happens every now and then though. It's something I'm going to try to do more of in the future though. It's definitely a good alternative to going out to eat all the time. :)

Love these goals. Simple, clearly defined and achievable!

One thing I try to remember that's helped me - it's not always about being perfect, it's about being better, making better choices than you did yesterday. If you went out to eat today, at least you made a better choice than normal. That's a victory.
