Blueberries and the Quest for 101 Ways to Eat Eggs

No fun GIFs, because phone + kids + sick.

Recap:

Sprained my ankle the week of Thanksgiving, then got sick, and by the time I was ready to lift again, the full chaos of December hit and I just didn't have any time. I think it's been 6 weeks since I've lifted at this point, which will be remedied once the Wee Berries go back to school. Everything was great on the food front throughout the holidays, which means I'm not starting from behind there - just trying to tweak.

Goal 1: Food

Rely a little less on (delicious blended) protein shakes and a little more on real food. They're too easy/convenient, and I'm lazy, and I need to be less lazy. Eggs are cheap and relatively easy protein, so finding new and interesting ways to make them will be my focus.

Goal 2: Movement

Start lifting again (yay!). 3x/week might be a little too much in the schedule at first, so I'm going to say 2-3x/week to allow for figuring things out.

Goal 3: Sleep

I haven't been great about getting to bed at a reasonable hour recently. I fell like lifting will naturally help with this, but I want to set a goal for some accountability. In bed by 10:30 at the latest. Bonus points for 10:00.

I'm on the cusp of making a challenge. I don't think it belongs in the warriors thread. You'll see why. Hopefully we can still be friends!

I guess we can still be friends. Maybe. Ha! Actually, I may have a less warrior-ish thread than I'd intended, too. More on that below...

Right?

So glad it's January. I've been waiting since Halloween!

Getting hurt in your own gym???  That's not good.

Eh, more like getting hurt on a trail walk with the Wee Berries. On the upside, I didn't do something dumb in the gym. But walking's hard, apparently.

Yay eggs! I love them and I don't eat them enough. Looking forward to seeing what you do with them (to steal ideas with pride of course)!

I'll try to give you lots of fun things!

-----------------------------

Nothing exciting so far. I miiiiiiiight have done something dumb yesterday and let my mom rope me into being on her team for one of those "2017 miles in 2017" things. With 4 people, I'm responsible for running/walking at least 504.25 miles over the course of the year, which breaks down to a little under 1.4 miles/day. On its own, that's no big deal, but that's only if it works out to do it every single day. Missing a day here and there adds up fast, which I already did by not joining on the first day! I'm totally not a runner (see also: Warrior), and at the moment I'm not even a particularly fast walker. *sigh*

I did feel like I probably needed to do some cardio (boo), since I need to keep taking off the 2014-2016 "My Life Is Spiraling Out of Control" weight, so it's not really a bad thing so much as possibly a bigger commitment than I meant to make. But 2x/week lifting at the moment looks like a way more reasonable goal and possibly even the max for awhile.

Re:eggs. The only thing I've had so far is fried eggs over parsnips, sweet potatoes, and shallots. Nom.

In bed just after 11, which I'm not counting since the challenge hasn't started yet.

If you need my parents to tag in as helpers, they walk two miles a day. Every single day. No matter the weather.

I mostly am appalled I'm related to then with none of their willpower.

I shouldn't be surprised by this. Ma and Pa Squat are awesome. Those Kansas winters are no joke! Neither are summers really, if my memory serves me correctly.

Truth.

No lifting yet, just walking every day. I'm starting to get into the groove on getting to bed on time, though I'm not counting it get until the challenge officially starts.

In the winter if it's really cold, they'll drive to a mall and walk. But they do the summers. (I'd be opposite, I hate the summer heat. However, back when I was a runner (*gasp!*) I ran no matter the weather, too. So maybe I have SOME Squat DNA!

I think people who can manage to run in the winter have a touch of the insanity dedication required to be a true warrior. All I can picture is my slipping and breaking a hip and then it's all downhill from there. Although I'm sure there are people who picture powerlifting and instantly think of injury.

Ok, I never ran outside when it was icy. But I did run when it was below freezing plenty. Once I got going it was fine. Pa Squat even helped me find a "least north facing and most mileage" path. Back then, they still walked outside all the time, so it was nice they walked about as far as I ran. I'd make the drive to their house just to use his weather hack. :)

I think I'm more like you. I've been out every day in this great snowpocalypse that the South got, but I already know that summer is going to be a much harder sell.

Agreed. I'm pretty sure the only reason I've been out there in the cold this week is because our winter is extremely short and mild here.

You definitely warm up as you go, but I think snow would be way better than ice. I'm prone enough to injury as it is!

The best laid plans to start lifting today were foiled by a snow day for the Wee Berries. *sigh* But we're going to bundle up to head out on a walk, since the streets are totally clear on our side of town. As of last night, I'm up to 19.56 miles, which is just shy of 4% of what I need for the year. Not bad! I'm planning to front load the miles some, since I know I'm going to struggle to get out there in the summer.

In bed before 10 last night to start off my sleep challenge, but since I was messing around on my phone until 10:20, I'm not giving myself the bonus points. :)

Hi!

Quick check in. Not dead, but I have been excellent about meeting my bedtime goal. With the exception of Friday night, I've been in bed before 10:30 every night!

Sadly, there really aren't any new kinds of eggs to report (mostly fried b/c yum). Still no lifting, either, though I'm up over 30 miles on my walking challenge. Don't tell anybody, but I ran a few tiny segments of a walk a few days ago. It didn't even suck.

Blueberries the runner! I'll still be your friend. Truth is, I like running for short distances (around 2 miles or less). I rarely talk about it because 1. Warrior 2. Primarily because longer distance runners always try to get me on the long distance train. Just isn't my thing. But maybe it'll be yours!
