My goals for January are already set, so I just copied and pasted here. 1st month goals: to lose 8 pounds run up the stairs without feeling winded Walk 2 miles a day (or 40 minutes of cardio) stop hiding food Learn ukulele chords Get Spanish fluency to 20% on Duolingo Draw every day I wanted to focus on getting something done each day. Winter is a hard time of year for me, and instead of focusing on feelings and thoughts, I'm just going to do something everyday. Exercise for my health, drawing for my work, Spanish for my skills, and ukulele for my joy. I'm going to track my daily to-do list using the Habitica app. I really like the dailies feature and how it resets itself so I don't have to continuously write in "Spanish" everyday. I just check the box when it's done. What I'm NOT going to do with the app is get involved in parties and try to collect everything. I did that last time, and that led to a special kind of madness. I'm off to a good start. I worked out this morning, and practiced my Spanish lessons (I'm at 19%, so this is an easy goal this month). Now I'm going to clean, draw, and reward myself with some uke practice. I think.....No. Not going to think too much, so I'll end this here. Happy New Year, everyone! I'm catching up on cleaning, and I can feel the stress start to melt as I restore order to my room. I don't feel like I have a lot of control or privacy in my life. There's not much that is just for me anymore. It's why I started hiding food. I just wanted something that was mine that no one else knew about. The real issue is I've been using social media and my family as an excuse to hide from my life for so long, I don't have much of a life anymore. Just this intense desire to stash cookies in my underwear drawer I need a different private thing that isn't destructive. Suggestions? Today I will clean for another hour, organize my knitting then do something fun for a couple hours. It's just the beginning, and you know what they say... when nothing is for certain, everything is a possibility. 2 Quote Link to comment

Running up the stairs wirhout feeling winded- I can briskly walk up the stairs without getting winded, but I can't run up yet. Gasp wheeze gasp! 2 miles a day...........................urm....no. Stop hiding food. YES. it took a while, but I am no longer hiding food. I really REALLY want to though. argh!! Learn ukulele chords. Tbis is my favorite thing to do! I am happiest on my uke, and it's replaced my snacking monster. 20% duolingo- i did it! But now I am back to 18% so I have to catch up on some of the lessons. I have maintained my streak but bare minimum. That should change next week. Draw everyday. More like 2/3 days. So there IS progress... and room to improve. I keep expecting perfection and for this to be easier sooner. But it's okay that it takes a while. I wont quit this time 6 Quote Link to comment

It was pretty fun though) I had a good week. This week, I fell backwards quite a bit in my healthy eating and exercise habits. With the Uke, if you can play C, G7 and F, you can play quite a lot. There are some chords where I feel like I need to break my hand to get there. My uke was about 100 dollars at guitar center if you are looking for a new one! It's a Cordoba Concert CM 15. In my old job, there was a level of transparency demanded of us, and we were constantly told "this isn't a job, it's a lifestyle" and I remember feeling like "this is really a cult." .....Huh. I think I need to process this more. I never really connected those dots before. But I read your comment when you wrote it and remember thinking "what if I read a book and just read it for me and didn't have to talk about it?" and I did. and I did more stuff just for me, and you know what? Honestly, it's not a great day for me- I slept terribly last night after a costachronditis flare up. This one was painful. But now I'm taking advil, and I'll sleep well tonight. Snarkyfishguts Posted January 25, 2017 Author Report Share Posted January 25, 2017 I wrote about this in my battle log, but it seemed appropriate to talk about it here too. I gained 8 pounds. This is admittedly in the wrong direction of my goals. I ate badly, I didn't sleep well, and the stress....I've been really stressed out, guys. Like "Can I just hide in bed?" stressed. So stepping on the scale this morning and seeing that I've gained weight...I don't know. I felt relieved. Not upset, not angry. I just felt this giant burden lift from my shoulders, and I felt like I was going to be okay. I felt like I was going to be successful at my goals. It doesn't make sense, I mean, I'm standing on a number that tells me I've been failing miserably, but I feel good. Free. It's going to be okay. 4 Quote Link to comment
