Starpuck: Built on Hope

starpuck

Recommended Posts

I've been dragging for almost a month now with feeling overwhelmed, under-motivated and nearly defeated.  I'm pretty sure this happens every winter.   I'm uncertain how to combat it, or, if it is something like SAD, if I can even fully avoid it at all.  But, if there is one thing I have in common with my shy, and unconfident Jedi in game?    No matter how many doubts we face, how frustrated we are, or how verbal our complaints are about failing to meet our expectations...  We Don't Give Up.      Which means ... I'm here for another challenge my fellow rebels!

giphy.gif

REBELLIONS ARE BUILT ON HOPE

And something I need to do, is stop running through the motions because I've been told they should work- and start believing they will work.

Which is not to say keep doing the same thing and expect different results, I'll change things up if necessary. But I need to stop doing this while having a mindset of 'Nothing is going to work.'

They're also built on hard work, knowledge, teamwork and risk!

HARD WORK

- LIfting 3x a week. MWF  **Every full 5 day work week, I will lift on MWF.   On weeks I don't have a full week, I am allowed to have just 2 lifting days.

- Moving 2x a week.   TTH   **This can be running, walking, dancing.   The point is move.  Hockey does not count.

- Track Calories 5x a week.  M-F

KNOWLEDGE

- Read 1 Chapter Daily

- Write affirmation/journal Daily

- Meditate 2m Daily, and for 5m 3x a week.

- Draw 3x a week.

- Read 30m a week.

TEAMWORK

- Keep up on NF.

- Plan food co-op at work with the girls (healthy)

- Look for a new sport/fitness/class thing to join.

RISK

- Make a non-easy decision, 1x a week.

- Try things I might be bad at!

- Go to new social things.

- Meet. People.

That's the plan.    At least, the rough draft of the plan.   Yeah, it's a lot of what I was doing before, but until I get a streak of consistency with that, I need to keep at it.     And, as Zeb would say... if things aren't working out, or get mucked up for unknown curveballs?

200_s.gif

Oh.  There's one other BIG goal in here.  "Pay fake mortgage to my own savings account."

^That one scares the heck outta me!

Following along! I especially like your 'Risk' goals! I also like the fake mortgage goal, I've been making fake car payments for a little while now and it's fairly amazing what you can save up when you do that sort of thing.

I second rugby, but I will say, if you've never played it before, it's not an easy game to learn as a grown adult. I think you need a little bit of the childhood/teenage sense of invincibility to really get into it. I was always just preoccupied enough with not getting hurt that I couldn't really get into it 100%.

Oof.  The only reason I managed with hockey was all that protective gear!  I'm thinking a martial art maybe.   Something that might help my Jedi endeavors look more impressive.     And yeah.  Those Risk ones are gonna be brutal.  I don't even have good ideas on what to do with that yet.

It was just going to be a Star Wars one - but then I found some great Rebels gifs, and so they took the spotlight on the first post!   Between marathon watching Clone Wars (series) Rogue One, and getting almost caught up on Rebels.   I'm in blissful overload!  Great having ya here!

Thanks for coming by and sharing that with me Nym.   It always amazes me how much it helps just to know that someone else has 'been there' and made it.  Ya know?

Yus.  Silly winter blagrrrooowls!   Ahem.  Yes.   And heh no no.  No Rugby.

I considered today my first day of zero week.   I ate totally on target, so that was good.  I did some sketching.   I bought a journal (it was not a bullet journal and therefore I am sad) and got some things jotted down.   I did not get a walk in as I had thought- I'm dealing with ... weird bloating, cramping, side-stitch pains.  We're going to go with the idea it's probably air from having eaten like a schmuck for four days.   Tomorrow I am getting into the warehouse at lunch for some liftings.  Light and easy and deloaded to get my body moving again.

I am a rookie coach with a brand new team. They range in age from 20 to 40. Most of them had never heard of rugby 18 months ago. It is really hard to teach grown ups a sport. The people who worry about getting hurt almost always end up getting hurt. I had to take some time off after a particularly bad concussion because I just couldn't get my head back in there, figuratively and literally.

The only reason I can play now is because I started at 19. I could never do it if I was just learning how to play. I'm very realistic about rugby not being a sport for everyone. But I've also been going through all the posts in Rising Heroes and thinking "Oh, she could play for such and such team" or "She's near so and so, I should mention rugby to her." It's a sickness.

Ah, so it is a cult! One of my college friends joined a rugby team, and spent the next five years trying to convince me that I should find a team too. Crazy people.

My college team tried to recruit me to play too.  At the time I was 6'4", 150 pounds soaking wet, and the rest of the team was Samoan. I decided I didn't want to die during the first practice.

So a little week zero updating.

- Activity :  Has not gotten back into the picture.  It's in my brain image, but the body has not yet agreed to cooperation.

- Organization : Tons of it.  And it's helping the motivation a bit.

- Food : Since Tuesday, I have completely gotten on board.   Though tonight is D&D so the limits shall be tested.   Good portions, clean eating, and tracked.

- Art : I've been doing a ton of idle pencil sketching lately.   I've two of them on hand so I will share.  Because, posts with pictures are so much fun!

- Reading : I've started with just doing the bible chapter reading.   The meditation will probably start up again next week.

I received two books from PoseMuse for Christmas!   Justin posts these images, many of them at least, for free on his FB page.  The guy is awesome.  They are specifically for the purpose of using them as reference, then turning it into your own art.    So I doodled two of those this past week or so.

X9dQw84.jpg  J1H8n5M.jpg

I also got *A* journal.   But it is not dot-grid in style and so I am still on the hunt for a better one.   I hope to get that before next week proper.

I'm hoping I don't talk myself out of going out back to the warehouse for some light, get the body moving, lifting again.

But it's cloudy.    Windy.   And currently 11 degrees.

There's a lot of dot grid journals on Amazon if you're stuck for one. Mine is a Rhodia one (which I bought because it was cheap) and it works well for me, actually feels pretty solid.

Now go work out! You'll be warm once you're a couple of minutes in so the weather doesn't matter. Go!

Now go work out! You'll be warm once you're a couple of minutes in so the weather doesn't matter. Go!

Look what you guys made me do!    I went back to a program I used last year about this time.   I remember two things about it: it changed things up enough I didn't get bored for 12 weeks, AND I saw improved numbers on everything.   It's the 12 Week Dumbbell and Bodyweight Program by Nia Shanks.   I do want to get into Stronglifts maybe, but I love this program because it actually has pull ups written into it.

Anyway.  It has seriously been 3-4 weeks since I've worked out, so I told myself.  New start here.   Forget the old stuff, except for the reassurances that YES, YOU CAN do this, because you've clearly done it before.     I also dropped everything to body weight this time because I have a hockey game on Sunday (after a 2 week break there too) and really did not want to be broken for that.

Workout 1 - Week 1

  • Reverse Lunges - 2 x 6 x BW || 3 x 6 x 10#
  • Push Ups (bench level to be safe) - 5 x 6
  • Inverted Rows - 5 x 6
  • Single Leg Glute Bridge - 5 x 6
  • Reverse Crunch AMRAP -  23 || 20 || 20
  • DB Lateral Raise - 1 x 15 x 5# || 2 x 10 x 5#  **

Below interspersed between random sets.

  • Jumping Jacks - 15 || 25 || 35
  • Jump Rope - 3 x 60"
  • Pull up Hold/Negative - 40"

** So last year this time, I could not do this with even 1# in my left hand, due to trying to rehab my shoulder.   So I was being way careful on this, but NO pain!

Interesting data?    I burned 403 calories with this really low-weight workout.    (Last higher weight workout, I only burned like 275) So, clearly, the trick to keeping your workout calorie burn up is to follow a 1 day on 4 week off pattern, lol!
