Athaclena
You can read my bio on a previous Challenge if you wish http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/87326-athaclena-the-reboot-continues I have declared 2017 the year of following through. If I start a project - finish it (I've actually already done that with 2 kitchen projects over the weekend). My only resolution this year, is to try to finish what I start. Doesn't matter if it's cleaning out a closet, putting up shelves or a challenge. Just FINISH to the best of my ability. My 2 projects over the weekend involved some shelving in my kitchen to get stuff UP off of the counters (because I don't have a lot of counter space). I love to cook - I'd like to make it less of a chore so I can do it more often AND have enough space to cook things my husband will eat AND what I SHOULD eat (more veggies). So this challenge is much the same as previous challenges, with some fine tuning. Diet Eat more veggies. That's it. Eat more veggies. I've been pre-cutting veggies for omelets in the morning when I'm home. I can almost always get veggie omelets when on the road. When that's not possible - yogurt typically is. Even if it's crappy yogurt - in which case I'll add in a KIND bar. When home - I WILL have a veggie with dinner. Period. When on the road - I WILL have a veggie with dinner - even if it's adding a salad to the burger I ordered. Fitness At least 3 workouts per week. No excuses. Level Up Your Life When my alarm goes off at 9:30 on work nights, I will finish up whatever I'm watching, do the dishes and go to bed. If I'm traveling - finish up the next chapter and GO TO BED. I've made GREAT progress on my office & kitchen. This needs to continue - goal of one box gone through per week - whatever is in the box needs to be addressed - shredded, tossed, scanned, filed, donated. But if I don't want\need to move it to my next house - it needs to be G.O.N.E. 6 Quote "Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still." - Chinese Proverb My Recipe Thread 1st dozen-ish Challenges for the curious 12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,More attempts, #1 with Intro, Failed attempts Spoiler Quick Bio: IT Consultant, Been in IT 25+ Years, Bounced around and landed as a traveling Consultant for a medium-sized Software Company. Athaclena
So far so good (you know, Day 1 down LOL). Was up late - but not TOO late. Ate veggie with dinner and got the kitchen cleaned up before bed. Actually unloaded the dishwasher this morning while making coffee and my veggie omelet. Now to get a workout done (since I seem to not be as sore as yesterday from finishing my shelf builds). Speaking of - here's a couple of pictures of my projects. IKEA floating shelves - not heavy duty but they'll do - and Amazon Basics Wire Shelves - they hold LOTS of heavy stuff! 3 Quote "Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still." - Chinese Proverb My Recipe Thread 1st dozen-ish Challenges for the curious 12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,More attempts, #1 with Intro, Failed attempts Spoiler Quick Bio: IT Consultant, Been in IT 25+ Years, Bounced around and landed as a traveling Consultant for a medium-sized Software Company. Athaclena
Gearing up for 2 weeks of bi\coastal travel for the first 2 weeks of the challenge. I've declared this month Jet Lag January LOL. We had a nice snow last night. Shut Atlanta down of course - but it needed to be done. I know 1-3" of snow don't seem like much to folks up north - but we have no equipment to clear the roads - so we get a nice layer of ice on the roads which you simply cannot drive on w\o chains - which no one down here has Of course I woke up with a migraine (thanks storm system) - but I have meds on board and they're helping. Since I'm travelling, I'm doing some bulk cooking this weekend so hubby doesn't eat out for every meal. Thankfully my bulk cooking is "hi tech" so I don't have to babysit. I'm waiting on the pre-heat cycle to finish on the first loaf of bread so I can verify the moisture level in the dough before I head for a nap since I didn't sleep last night (should have gotten up and taken something for the migraine - but couldn't bring myself to climb out of bed). I've shredded a rotisserie chicken and made cilantro\lime rice already for quick tacos or chicken & rice. I'm pulling out ground beef to thaw for a big batch of chili (kidney beans will be done in my Instant Pot) and will make\freeze another loaf of bread tomorrow. Other than that - a couple of loads of clothes and packing my "go" bag. Nice relaxing weekend LOL. So let's get this challenge started and form some habits! I'm going to check out some of the apps folks have suggested - anything to remind me to "check" things off and form those dang habits! 2 Quote "Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still." - Chinese Proverb My Recipe Thread 1st dozen-ish Challenges for the curious 12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,More attempts, #1 with Intro, Failed attempts Spoiler Quick Bio: IT Consultant, Been in IT 25+ Years, Bounced around and landed as a traveling Consultant for a medium-sized Software Company. Deluxe
This isn't particularly relevant, but we have the exact same electric kettle! I got it for making a huge variety of teas about a year ago, which I found as a process was super relaxing. Do you use it to french press coffee or something, or just general "hey, I need really hot water really quickly" reasons? Quote Link to comment

Also, if you look closely, I am probably in need of a tea intervention (there's, oh, 20+ varieties on the shelf and a purple basket behind the sugar jar that has a large selection of samples of all kinds of tea). That kettle has been used on average of 2 - 3 times per day (even WITH my traveling) since I bought it about 1.5 years ago. I start my day with coffee - then switch to tea. Usually herbal, but green or black if I need an afternoon pick me up. 1 Quote "Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still." - Chinese Proverb My Recipe Thread 1st dozen-ish Challenges for the curious 12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,More attempts, #1 with Intro, Failed attempts Spoiler Quick Bio: IT Consultant, Been in IT 25+ Years, Bounced around and landed as a traveling Consultant for a medium-sized Software Company. I've started getting frozen veggies for sides with dinner - so I'll grab one of those - ALTHOUGH - I may make a green smoothie for "lunch" as well since I had a late breakfast (I have some fresh spinach I can throw in and "hide"). Tomorrow we're eating out so I don't have to cook\clean the kitchen before heading out west. Veggies on the road aren't usually an issue when I'm in California I've gotten a workout prepping for my trip this morning. So far: Homemade Blueberry Pancakes for breakfast - a weekend indulgence I haven't done in a few weeks While making Pancakes - made Kidney Beans from dried (soaked over night) in my Instant Pot Threw first load of laundry in the wash After breakfast, browned the ground beef, put together spice\tomato mix, then got all of THAT mixed in with the beef & kidney beans for chili (it's in the slow cooker on low for the next 4ish hours coming together) Laundry dinged so rebooted Now for a break After the break: Body Weight Workout, continue with laundry and pack so all I have to do tomorrow night is throw my laptop in my bag and Tuesday (way to early) roll out of bed and into my travel clothes to greet my driver at 6am (UGH). But I'm DETERMINED to not be up at 1 or 2am finishing up packing this year. I've had 4 years of practice - I have what I need to do down - just need to stop waiting for the last minute..... Athaclena
The "official" Day 1 is in the books! I finished up all of my "prep for travel chores" - without procrastination. Even worked on some long overdue de-cluttering\cleaning in the master bath. AND was in bed by 11! That is seriously some kind of record. Now to be in bed at a decent hour tonight before my 0-Dark-Thirty wake up call to get to the airport and fly across the country - then drive 2 hours to the client. IT runs on coffee - or at least this IT consultant does! I've set up Habitica to help track\remind me of habits I want to form. I've loaded in the Body Weight Workouts (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday) as well. So here's a run down of day 1. I also plan to try to check in here more - even though I KNOW I won't have time to read much on the boards - I can check in to keep myself accountable. It's not like I don't have Tapatalk on my phone LOL. Diet Eat more veggies. Had a double serving of veggies with dinner. Fitness Beginner Body Weight Workout DONE - plus just under 5000 steps. I'm tracking increments of 2500 in Habitica (as counted by my cell phone - I haven't found a fitness tracker I actually WANT to wear). As I increase my daily step count, I'll up the interval tracked. Future goal will be 10k per day average - but I have to GET there first. Level Up Your Life In bed at 11pm. With a clean kitchen - HUZZAH! Cleaned all of the trash off of the master bathroom counter and gave it a good wipe down (along with the sink). Still have more re-org to do there - but it is DEFINITELY a start! 4 Quote "Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still." - Chinese Proverb My Recipe Thread 1st dozen-ish Challenges for the curious 12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,More attempts, #1 with Intro, Failed attempts Spoiler Quick Bio: IT Consultant, Been in IT 25+ Years, Bounced around and landed as a traveling Consultant for a medium-sized Software Company. Kinipela
I use a lot of frozen veggies. Right now, it's a California blend (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots), sugar snap peas, and a fajita blend (red and green bell peppers and onions). They are quick to saute from frozen, and I add an egg to it. Or leftover meat for a stir fry. 1 Quote Link to comment

Athaclena
Round-up for Monday & Tuesday. Today (Tuesday) was my westerly cross-country trek - from Atlanta to outside of San Francisco. Got everything prepped and done AND in bed by 11pm Monday. Today I got up at 5:30 am for airport arrival with enough time to grab breakfast and boarded my 5+ hour flight. Watched 3 movies in the air. Met up with co-workers and drove in the rain for 2+ hours. Did some work and just had dinner with the co-workers (veggie included). Just checking in before crashing (LOOOONG before 11PM here in California). Diet Monday Night - Ate out at a buffet - 2 servings (at least) of veggies consumed Tuesday Night - Salad - Mixed greens, cucumbers, carrots Fitness Beginner Body Weight Workout DONE on schedule today - that's 2 of 3 for the week! Only 3000 steps today - my plane was at the closest concourse and not a lot of walking at SFO compared to many other airports. Even though I didn't get a high step count - I am exhausted - good old jet lag! Level Up Your Life Monday - In bed at 11pm. With a clean kitchen - HUZZAH! Tuesday - will be in bed LONG before 11pm. Athaclena
We decided as a group to walk to dinner - SUSHI! So got in >3500 steps and clocked >30 "Active" min according to Google Fit on my phone. And MOAR VEGGIES! Actually - a very, very healthy dinner (well, and a pre-dinner Moscow Mule and post dinner Angry Orchard - but since that's more than I drank all last month I'm not going to knock it LOL - my boss is such an enabler). Diet Veggies, veggies & more veggies. Veggie omelet, salad with lunch (plus extra veggies with the entree) AND some Edamame and seaweed salad before nigiri (skipped the rice for the nagiri) and sushi roll. And I skipped the soy sauce. And was so full I didn't eat all of my unagi roll.... *NOTE* - One of the few things I really enjoy about coming out to CA is the plethora of REALLY GOOD sushi available. The sushi back in Atlanta is just not nearly as good. If I lived near some of these sushi spots I'd eat sushi all the time. As it is, when I'm out here, I'll eat sushi once per day if my co-workers will let me. When I'm alone - I WILL eat sushi at least once a day - and probably twice. Fitness 3500 steps and >30 "Active" minutes - so I'm FAR exceeding my goals this week. I need to keep this up as I slowly clean up my diet. I really need to do both because I WANT to be more active. Level Up Your Life Heading to bed here in a few minutes (LONG before 11pm) after I re-organize my luggage - we're heading to a hotel near the airport tonight after we finish up - NO ONE wants to drive 2 hours in Bay Area traffic for a morning flight..... Either walking somewhere close by for dinner or just strolling through the hotel. I also RARELY stay at a hotel that doesn't have a gym so there is always the hamster wheel - er - treadmill WHEN I get to the point cardio requires more than walking. Mmmm.... Tampa..... I spent a fair amount of time on a project that had me in Temple Terrace. I love to go to Florida for the (generally) readily available grouper. And in Temple Terrace I discovered a good Spanish place for Paella. It also looks like I'll be coming back to THIS client a couple of times to train them - so I'm going back to that sushi place - probably every night I can. Then overnight my last night in San Jose (closer to the airport) for sushi with an old friend in Japan town. Gotta take advantage of really good sushi while I can! On to the update! Italian for dinner. I didn't go hog wild with a cream sauce and held myself to 1 piece of bread. Added a salad. 1 Lemon Drop at the bar with the crew back at the hotel - should be just enough to put me out . Lunch was soup & salad - and breakfast had veggies. I definitely ate the way I should for most of the the trip. Just need to keep it up! I'm heading back east tomorrow - where I won't "go back" to eastern time because way too early Monday morning I am heading back to California - only this time to San Diego.... Diet Veggies, veggies & more veggies. Veggie skillet for breakfast, Soup + Salad for lunch, salad with dinner - and a reasonable portion Fitness I did not get in the Body Weight Workout today and < 2500 steps. I'll try to get it in tomorrow - and there will likely be much more than 2500 steps hiking out of the Atlanta airport. Level Up Your Life Heading to bed now (before 11pm). Super inexpensive and not too far from TIA, their soup is full of veggies and it is so good that people line up for it at 9:30am. 1 Quote Link to comment
