Man, I just love the new year! It's like a brand new notebook, with margins unscribbled. It's like a fresh field of snow with no foot prints. It's a bright Saturday morning when you woke up early and have no plans. 

In short, it's pure, unadulterated potential. 

 

Right now, I have the potential to become an absolutely amazing version of myself, and DAMMIT I'm going to realise that potential THIS YEAR. Full stop. 

 

This challenge is stepping stone #1 towards that Fonzico. 

 

 

Nitty gritty:

 

Goal Number One:

Complete the Whole 30.

 Jan 8 - Feb 6th. 

Incidentally, we have a big Ukrainian family feast coming up on January 7th, so naturally the perfect day to start is the day after, which just happens to coincide with the start of the challenge. 

Week Zero will be all about the prepping, and for the challenge proper, it's just breathtakingly simple. Follow the program. There is no fail option here, so it will simply result in:

Goal Number Two:

Hit the gym.

My sister and I have started going to the nearby community gym. It's not the fanciest thing you've ever seen, but it's close, inexpensive and so far we've been really enjoying going. We take turns planning our workouts, and just get it done. We had a talk last time about upping the intensity too. There are also drop in classes there which are included in our membership, so I want to start trying those out too. 

A : 8+     B : 6+     C : 4+      D : 2+    F : 1 or less

Goal Number Three:

Get walking.

Okay, so call me crazy.. but I want to give myself a year long step goal of 3,650,000 steps. Yep, 10,000 per day ALL year. Holy crap. I'm already behind. Anyways, in order to support this goal, I'm going to get 285,000 steps during the challenge. 

A : 285,000+       B : 255,000+          C: 225,000+         D : 195,000+    F : 194,999 or less.

Goal Number Four:

Learn American Sign Language.

Whoohoo! This is something I've wanted to do for a long time... and now my work is paying for me to take Level One and Two classes for the next 4-ish months! So excited! All I have to do for this goal is attend the classes, which, like the Whole30 goal, does not have a failure option - aside from extreme illness, there is just no excuse not to go. Classes are Tues/Thursdays from 6pm-9pm. I will attend 8 classes during this challenge.

Goal Number Five: (yeah, Yeah, I know, that's a lot of goals)

Bullet journal.

I started a Bullet journal a few months ago, and have been kind of half-assedly using it since. I want to actually fully utilise it. Goal is 5 days of week of writing SOMETHING in it.

Captain's log; The second diurnal course of the year two thousand and seventeen.

 

Whole 30 prep is in full swing today. 

 

A couple days ago I made chicken burger patties and chimichurri sauce. (Both now frozen). 

 

I have cleaned out my fridge (ugh, it was definitely too long since the last time!). 

 

Today I am making an obnoxious amount of meatballs, sloppy joe stuffed peppers and some buffalo chicken soup, also to be frozen. Depending on whether or not I want to brave the -35C weather we're having to go get the ingredients I'm missing, I may make bbq sauce and ketchup today as well.

 

Sister and I will also be hitting up the gym at some point.

This looks like a great challenge for you, with two goals almost in the bag, the stepping goal very much achievable, because you came so, so close last time, and the others definitely achievable as well. Enjoy the big feast with your family this weekend, and I hope you manage to finish your mom's gift in time.

Steal away! I admit that sometimes I open it and stare blankly, not sure what to write. But the whole point of the thing is not to be elaborate or time-consuming, and some days there just really won't be anything. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I want from it though and I'm hoping this goal will help.

Gym trip was successful. We tried to limit our rest time, and it resulted in a lot of sweat.

Neither of us felt like going whatsoever either, so double victory.

All the meatballs. Nom! The buffalo chicken soup was also a success.

I'll try to get the ketchup and BBQ sauce done tonight, and then I'm pretty well done with freezer prep! I'll do some fresh prepping closer to the end of the week.

And 11,700ish steps were taken yesterday, so I'm just 1000 under for the year [emoji14]

How were the meatballs? Are you ready to destroy week 1?

The meatballs have been frozen, for emergency meal purposes :) they turned out very good though.

And SO ready! Today is day one of the Whole 30!

I finally got around to making the stuffed peppers and BBQ sauce and ranch dressing. I also have a killer meal plan worked out for week one, and got all my grocery shopping done yesterday.

SIL's birthday is tomorrow, so we are having dinner at my in laws place - I will just bring my own food, they're used to me being weird [emoji14]

Plan for today is to hard boil some eggs, make some mayo, and hit the gym!

This feels super weird to me, because I always start my challenges on the Monday, but Sunday just made more sense this time...

Anyways, Day One is off to a good start!

Gym has already been hit, compliant foods have been eaten, and I've just finished hard boiling some eggs and making mayo.

Oh, and used my bullet journal too!

And made a Whole 30 Instagram! I wanted a place to record all my foodses for this round. My handle is Whole30fied, if anyone's interested. Not that I'm not going to inundate you with pictures on this thread anyways [emoji14]

Week One, Day One

I have confirmed the menu for SILs dinner tonight, and it's a whole lot of nope. Mostly in the dairy department. I suppose I could ask her to keep some without off to the side for me, but it's not worth the hassle of then making sure everything else is okay too.

All good! I'm about to go throw the chicken thighs and green beans in the slow cooker, and I already warned my MIL that I would be packing my own dinner.

The app is Paprika - it's more of a recipe managing app than a meal planner, and since I had to pay for it I'm not quite ready to fully endorse it, but it does have a lot of very nifty features.

Week One Day Three:

Whole 30: All good here!

Breakfast was 2 HB eggs with mayo and prosciutto, an orange and a handful of walnuts.

Lunch was taco salad.

Dinner was chicken thighs and green style green beans. I also added a small baked potato from the birthday dinner, which I topped with olive oil and spices - it was super delicious.

I'm feeling pretty good overall, although (TMI alert!) my bowels are rather loose. I am feeling less bloated though!

Workout: nothing to see here

Steps: over 10,000!

Bullet journal: done.

First ASL class is tonight!

The meal plan is getting switched around a bit today, as i failed to get the chili ready yesterday. This is just the sort of situation the meatballs were made for! But I won't have to use them yet, I'm just going to make the steak fajitas. I even pre chopped the veggies this morning, because I know I'm going to be very tight on time today.

The first class was awesome, I am so excited! I am doing it alone, although I intend to teach my husband as I learn. It's just something I've wanted to do for a long time, so when work was will to pay for it, I jumped at the opportunity.

Week One Day Four

So I've been mentally a day ahead all week (kept thinking yesterday was Wednesday, etc) and I've just put it together that it's because I started my challenge on the Sunday! Doy...

Whole 30: Good good good. Finally this morning getting up was a little easier.

Breakfast was ground beef, arugula and egg scramble with an orange.

Lunch was leftover chicken thighs and green beans

Dinner was steak fajita innards:
