Lucky fire dragon flies like a Hero

New year, new adventures!

I've decided to up my game and become a Rising Hero taking true flight in all the awesomeness I got, let's spread those wings, wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

aNIBvQ5dDBmzMhpOuHRy-5IOabNjWh3zBBNW2i-K

I have no idea yet what all awaits me on my Rising Hero journey, but that is part of the fun, and I do know it will make me stronger, healthier and I will surely meet even more awesome people - hopefully come across some of you guys from here :cheerful:

So this challenge will have three parts plus a mystery part...

Part 1 - Do the work and be FREE

My first goal is this time a non-fitness goal as I have noticed how happy it makes me to be on top of some things and therefore frees me up for fun things like training. What often best reflects how on top I am in my job is my email inbox. Ergo the goal is to have it clear every single evening before I go to bed, no excuses.

I'm starting with >20 in today still (at nearly 10pm), so that is what holidays do to me and it can't go on as it nags me at the back of my mind... from tomorrow on no more!

Part 2 - Daily 10 for building STRENGTH

Every big journey starts with small steps. Doing a short workout every single day for building strength and consistency. My current Daily 10 consist of

10 standard push ups

10 chin ups from standing

10 leg lifts (tuck lift, straighten and lower straight legs)

10 goblet squats with kg (currently 8kg, but hopefully more soon if my lovely neighbour borrows me a heavier one)

Additional accountability for this comes thanks to beeminder - data should be visible there, too

Part 3 - Dance and FLY

Train on the pole and with yoga regularly, meaning attending a yoga and pole class each week, plus 1 home pole training. During week 0 it's home training only as we have school holidays and courses only start afterwards again

Part 4 - MYSTERY

... to be determined by the Rising Hero tasks...

Stealing from @annyshay (because us sneaky assassins are good at that :P ) I will have a pretty Triforce motive to color in for each of the first three parts for every day of the challenge. Image to follow here soon

2015 was an awesome challenge year for me with great progress and fun. 2016 not so much - I dropped most of my challenges and couldn't find any consistency at all. Now it's a great years turn again and this challenge I will follow though come hell or high water!!!! Will use all the stubborness I have :D

Let's get the new year starting with a BOOM :onthego:

Rising Heroes preparations

Spoiler

Are you friends with people who work out on a regular basis? Do they regularly make good food and drink choices when you are together?

- yes, mostly online or living further away or doing other sports, so I still train alone outside classes and don't eat and drink together with them
Are your friends supportive when you discuss healthy eating and exercise, new habits, skills, or growth?

- yes
Do your coworkers work out on a regular basis? Do they regularly make good food choices when you eat together? Do they bring healthy food with them to work?

- yes, but I hardly meet them as I usually work alone from home. At retreats food is great and very healthy, those I have about 3x/year for 3 full days
Are your coworkers supportive when you discuss healthy eating and exercise?

- yes
Does your spouse or partner work out on a regular basis?

- yes, but less than me

Do they regularly make good food choices, especially when you are together?

- No, only when I make it easy for him
Is your family supportive of any healthy eating or exercise routines that you have talked about?

- yes, morally 100%, joining in not so much
If wanted, is it easy to find a person to workout with?

- no

Do you belong to any workout groups that you regularly meet with?

- yes, signed up for yoga again (once a week) and go to pole class (once a week)

Do you belong to a gym and go at least three times a week?

- no

The weak point is definitely the physical company (or lack thereof) for training and healthy food choices. To be fair my family does try to let me experiment a bit and I guess overall our diet is quite healthy as I cook most meals fresh at home, but at night hubby loves beer and potatoe chips while watching something with me and that hits my own sweet spot straight on. It's not so bad if once in a while, but if I fall for it too often, I get sluggish and slip into bad habits...

My plan is to come up with more healthy alternatives and I spoke to hubby about it and he totally understands.

Made brussel sprout chips at home today and he actually had nearly half, wanting more :D so that seems to work

As for the workout groups, going to classes is great, but I don't really have friends there, so I am really grateful for the community here with you guys. Plan is to simply stay in touch on NF :love_heart:

So here is a lot of rambling on my primary motives...

Spoiler

Moving Toward

What excites me most about being healthy? Being free and fit to do fun things, feel vibrant, awake, powerful, confident, happy in my body, alive, dare to be adventurous

What crazy passionate idea do I push to the back of my mind? Be a really, REALLY successful health and happiness coach, perform a magical pole dance circus style in front of somebody, go on a fantastic several day or even weeks long hike, create something that makes people happy and healthy in an easy, fun way, being able to do a muscle up on gymnastic rings, learn to teleport (I'm not kidding, I would so love this)

Whose life will change alongside of mine? My children's as it would give them a good example and they would not have to worry about my health later on, my hubbies as we could go travel together until very old and do lots of fun things, my clients as I can only treat and teach from my own heart and experience

Moving Away From

What stresses me out the most in every day life? Inertia, when I feel lazy, weak, tired, scared of money problems, feeling unsuccessful or not doing enough

What parts of my life frustrate or disgust me? Finances, when they are low, inertia, having to kick myself to do the tiniest things, bad choices in lifestyle and/or diet, when we move too little as a family, but sit too much in front of screens instead

What do I wish I could stop doing?

Procrastination!!

Who are the important people in my life? Hubby and kids foremost, other family, friends, then also my clients

How do I really want to make a living? Am pretty much doing that (yay) Helping others be happier and therefor healthier, heloing them connect to their own graceful source and joy of who they truly are. Via counselling sessions and hands on treatments as well as silent retreats - would love to do more of those retreats, they are my favorite thing

Was there a time when I was embarrassed by what I could not do?

Oh yes!! Any sport or gym class in my childhood. Despite going to gymnastics three times a week I sucked real bad at them and was barely mediocre at school. Also my siblings and Dad are super sportive in skiing, cayaking, rock climbing, ... you name it. I always struggled to keep up.

How do I want to overcome that?

Since I started Pole Dance, I found myself being able to do things, I never could do in the past, so I think I'm on that already :) Also I don't mind if I can't do some things as long as I can do enough things I find fun

What am I willing to sacrifice for my goals? Hmm, doubts, worries, fears,... :P not entirely kidding, those are sometimes in the way and need letting go of. Also laziness, procrastination, comfort, numbing of any kind, fear of embarrassment

What is something I am really willing to go through some pain to build/create? A healthy body that will enable me to grow old while staying fit and travel and work with pleasure and move with pleasure into old age. An awakened spirit that remembers the larger me and oneness of all

What makes me excited to get out of bed in the morning? New things, new possibilities, life possibly loving me in new ways I don't know yet, things to experience, how it will feel when it goes well, new ideas that may even excite and inspire others as well, creating something beautiful, sunshine

I'll follow along also to see how the Rising Hero thing goes.

I'm on the fence about it, mostly because of the price tag. Note I'm not against a monthly fee as I think that is the next logical avenue for Steve and NF as a business to remain viable, I was just hoping more in the $15-ish range.

Welcome on board :cheerful:

Yes, it does make sense for them and once you go into it you see all the many hours of love and dedication (and work!) that must have gone in, because they do it awesome of course. I was hesitant as well, have spent so much money on courses and this and that already, but I'm glad I jumped and did it. Am super excited now of course - fresh starts and all :) - but they have you build solid support from the start to keep you going.

It is in a way like a huge mini-challenge and if I look at how much the mini challenges have done for me in the past, that is what made the decision. The mini challenges showed me that I do like some competition but am fiercely loyal too and when I would have been too (insert x reason here) to work out, not dropping my team mates always turned it around to working out after all, going beyond what I thought I could do and loving the result of it.

Gosh, I remember Quidditch matches that had me do 4000 Jumping Jacks in 2 days :D Because our team was way behind, then caught up and the others were so awesome so I simply kept going and then going some more... fun days :)

For some reason I didn't stick to the last challenges and therefor mini challenges so much anymore. Not sure why. Maybe the themes didn't tickle me enough, maybe being on board with different people each time and feeling unable to be that loyal to all the people all the time, maybe feeling not needed enough,... maybe it was just my own funk and having priorities not on fitness at the time. Anyhow, this is really pulling me again and I am truly excited about sticking with it for longer. Not just 6 weeks or 4, but for longer. With big storyline, surprise elements, steady loyalty, all the fun, squeeeeeeeee

Plus of course it is a much bigger alround package then our mini challenges. But I have to say those are epic, too! So if you don't have the funds for Rising Heroes right now, maybe that is a substitute for you?

You've always been loyal to us, just saying. We know you're there, and then, when we need your encouragement most, you pop up and were there! But I really totally feel you on all these things! If it wasn't that I had to train for the OCRs, I would be struggling to get myself motivated at the moment.

really? I know we are similar in many ways, but I can't see procrastination being a weak point with you like..... ever!!

But thanks <3

I meant the mini challenges mostly, but yes I do feel loyal to you always :love_heart: and am glad to have hit the times when I was needed. I don't know exactly what it is, but I feel a lot more solidly back on the forums in general (even before joining Rising Heroes) with a whole new appreciation for all of you here and so much joy in being a part of the community. It enriches me a lot!

Yes, you will have to train for those OCRs :D that is the beauty of good goals, they don't let you off the hook and later on you are so glad they didn't. Plus you will have so much fun training. Just wait for your heat to ease a little and it will all be easier again as well.

What about all the finances I'm always behind on, and then have to binge-do to catch up. What about the time it takes me to actually start doing a project or jump in to fix something from the original time I started thinking about it? What about taking weeks to actually get to mowing cutting the boys' hair? Nope I'm good at procrastination specifically if I don't really want to do something, are a bit scared/unsure how to do something? And then also if it isn't on the top of my priority list, I keep pushing it down/away... :P

I am quite looking forward to training outside when it isn't so hot. I just hope that the own park has fixed their equipment by then, otherwise I'm going to have to drive a while to get to a nice place, for those "tests". In general the back garden and climbing frame will do though.

Woot! Woot! for being in the lead! And seconding Mad Hatter: did you win the snowball fight? :D The boys went "ooooohhh!" when I read your post to them.

well you're right on time, because my last challenges were all anything but exuberant and rather neglected instead. Which is why I sucked at cheering for you guys as well... but now I am back and it feels sooooo good!

Hahaha, I can imagine! You don't often get enough snow for it, do you? Funny thing is, my boy touched his first handful of snow ever in SA can you believe it?? He was about 9 months old and we were visiting the farm where hubby grew up in the Karroo and they had enough snow for building a snow man even. We of course weren't prepared for that at all and had to look for every warm thing possible :D

Silly Germans not trusting Africa to have any winter ever... ;) hubby had conveniently forgotten how they had to make sure the lambs wouldn't freeze to the ground in some nights

So I did not managed to get my email inbox to zero yesterday, but it is week zero after all, so I will shamelessly use that and give myself this week to get to a clear start.

Narrowed again to around 5 today, but caught up on lots of accounting, had a lovely client session and WALKED to town for my errands despite snow storm blowing hard flakes into my face. Nothing to scare a Volo with purpose ;)

Did I get that right, @annyshay?

Yesterday's summary part two:

Part 3 - Dance and FLY

did not train on pole because I had too little sleep the previous night (the downside of new shiny excitement) and lost speed in the afternoon, did though...

Part 4 - MYSTERY

3 rounds of Jim's bodyweight workout for my Rising Hero mission (20 squats, 10 knee push ups, 20 lunges, 20 single arm rows, I used the 6kg kettlebell for that, 20 sec plank and 20 Jumping Jacks), with warm up and cool down it came to 45 minutes after all, so I decided to not count it for the challenge with my youngest* as I was 45 minutes ahead already and I do want her to have a chance to catch up.

Plus the  2 mile walk in the pretty snow

It always amazes me what a workout can do. I felt fresher and more awake after (even though my muscles were really tired by then). Plus it evaporated cravings, so double yay!

*youngest and me have a weekly pvp going, her counting minutes on school studies such as Latin vocab, math exercises and/or practising on her flute recorder, me counting my minutes on the pole at home, any strength training and yoga home sessions (which I am usually to lazy for). If she wins I buy her a little Schleich animal toy of her choice (up to max 5 Euros worth), if I win I get one of the fun leggings I ordered from lotus leggings (which still haven't arrived in the post though, grrrrrr)

Week 0 Day 3

Do the work and be FREE - not yet managed, down to 5 again (12 answered), but paid all due bills and posted all due letters plus a few other office things

Daily 10 for building STRENGTH - done

10 standard push ups (tough due to DOMS from yesterday)

4/3/1/1/1 chin ups from standing (getting stronger, yayyyyyy)

10 leg lifts

10 slow goblet squats with 10 sec hold at bottom (8kg kettlebell) - boy did I feel both stretch and DOMS there :D

Daily weigh in at 67kg (keeping this going here so that I don't need to update battle log and challenge, I know I'm lazy :P )

Part 3 - Dance and FLY

not today

Part 4 - MYSTERY

walked for the daily walking mission into town for errands and shopping. Reflecting on how good it is to be a rising hero as otherwise I would have NOT gone into icy wind blowing hard snow into my face and strangely I was very glad I did. Nuts, right?

FOR THE REBELLION :triumphant:

Also managed to get 30 minutes meditation in this morning and it was delicious ^_^

Happy meditation ramble

Spoiler

Am reading "Joy on Demand" at the moment and love how he encourages that even 1 conscious breath is enough to have had a meditation. While 1 breath won't get me much time in for my mission, a whole lot of 1 breaths do ;)

What I also really like is using my self-made mala bead necklace for having something to literally hold gently onto while taking one delicious, conscious breath after another. As a child I loved the pretty rosaries people would pray with in church and wanted, wanted, WANTED a shiny thing like that for myself. But then when I got my granny's one with the pretty dark red gem stones, I never used it, because I can't get into the rosary prayer that much. It just focuses on us being born sinners too much for my personal taste. So when I discovered the mala necklaces people use for mantras and prayer, it hit me that I can pray however I want and if I like shiny things in my hands while meditation I can simply do that.

YAYY

So this is what I made from the pretty gem stones of my granny's rosary as well as from the pearls from her necklace that I inherited and never knew what to do with. I loved her dearly and didn't want to give them away yet I would never wear them. Now they are my mala meditation beads as I turned them into that and I have my shiny thing and can feel bead by bead for each yummy breath I take ^_^

How cool is it that the same God who created mountains and oceans and galaxies looked at you and thought the world needed one of you, too
