Grayspeed
Grayspeed's January 2017 Challenge Yes, this is basically the same as last month, but with a slight tweak. If it aint broke... Just like last month I'll be progressing through NF Rings, working on getting better rest, and improving HIIT cardio capabilities. I'll also be working on movement through the use of Max Shank's "5 Minute Flow" initiative. Let's go! Quest 1: Agility Assassins need to pull off some fancy stunts. In order to do this effectively I'll need to ensure my bodily awareness and mobility is up to scratch. Improve my mobility and movement quality by doing a 5 Minute Flow every day. Quest 2: Climbing Strength Climbing all over buildings and looking like a badass is what makes Assassins so great. To build up the strength to do this I will need to do a Nerd Fitness Rings workout at least three times per week. Quest 3: Alertness Having an alert state of mind is vital when you're heading into Templar territory. Especially when you're outnumbered 20 to 1, as Assassins often are. To achieve Master Assassin-like awareness I will get plenty of rest by being in bed by 10:30, five nights per week. Quest 4: Speed Speed is essential for any assassin. Especially when it comes to escaping a hostile area. Increase agility and speed by performing three HIIT focussed cardio sessions per week. 6 Quote Level 19 Jedi/Assassin in-training. Grayspeed
Prep week goals: Complete Level 4 of NF Rings muscle up progression. Run a mile for time to establish baseline for monitoring purposes. 14:32. Not bad. I won't be directly working towards a sub 10 minute mile this challenge, but it's coming. Go and see Assassin's Creed movie. Quick review: Meh. Pros Some of the action is pretty great. I spotted an Ezio Auditore easter egg (I think). Cons None of the characters are relatable, or even likeable. The movie takes itself way too seriously. The movie isn't fun. Overall it seems that the people making the movie just don't understand the universe they're working in, or the appeal of the franchise. Go for a ruck, or at least a long walk. I have a proper coat now so there's no excuse not to. Ruck should happen tomorrow morning. Rings level 4 is almost there, I've met requirements for support hold and scapular pulls, but ring rows are proving troublesome. 2 Quote Level 19 Jedi/Assassin in-training. I just started on the muscle-up progression (like just started, at level 0). How do you like the progress rankings? Also in a similar place for the mile. I was down to somewhere in the 12-minute area this summer, then... I don't know, life happened? Had to start back at walking and just recently got below 15 minutes. We'll get there! How do you like the progress rankings? Awsome! The jump from level 4 up to 5 is a little intimidating, I've tried assisted ring dips before and they're damn hard. On the other hand, I can already meet the criteria for assisted chinups in level 10. Maybe because I'm fairly tall I can generate more leverage with less effort on the support? I'm actually going to do a hybrid kind of workout that allows me to work on dip strength while not getting bored doing assisted chinups for the next few months. Basically I'm being rebellious and skipping ahead on the chin-up portion of the progressions while working on the lower levels for the dip portion. 2 Quote Level 19 Jedi/Assassin in-training. Grayspeed
So I slept like crap last night and woke up feeling super rough. My throat has been getting more and more sore/swollen during the day, which is real annoying. I planned t do jump rope HIIT after work today but I figured rest would be smarter right now. I've taken medication (which I never do), loaded up on vitamin rich foods, and drank way more ginger tea than anyone probably should. I'm determined to wake up feeling better tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get back to regularly scheduled fitness tomorrow evening.
