UnquietBones follows the AIBARNs!

Recommended Posts

It's time to focus in and pay more attention to the AIBARNs! (aka: Am I Being Assassiny Right Now?)

Last challenge I recovered from falling off the wagon with great gusto! Thanks to that success, I'm now to the point where I am on Day 2 of Zero Diet Coke, I've started walking daily again, and I have four days of packed lunches in the fridge. (Lies! One of them is sitting in my lunchbox. And I am not eating it until it's actualy lunchtime. In theory.)

I'm keeping the same goals as last challenge, only slightly more hardmode! :D

1. I will not drink Diet Coke

Okay, so I expect some backsliding on this...maybe? I'm only on Day 2, but it's my first workday and honestly I feel just fine this morning (and it was my 6am shift to boot!). I know it isn't bad for me as a 'sometimes' food, but I'd like to hammer into my brain that it's not to be picked if there are other viable options.

2. I will walk every day

I'm getting a lot better about taking the dog out for a walk when it's nice out, so I'll keep doing that (she drags me around at roughly 3mph, gah!) and walking on the treadmill when it's cold/raining/miserable. By the end of January I want to be to the point where I am walking three miles every day. I've done it before, long, long ago... so I know I can do it again-- and I need a challenge!

3. I will try and cook more

The first two goals are pretty hard for me, so the last one is a 'try' instead of a 'will'. My dad got me a fancy kickstarter chef knife for Christmas so I have vowed to start using it! Which hopefully means there will be lots of packed lunches (with Friday as my 'cheat day') and a bunch of dinners. I'm going to be focusing more on the lunches than the dinners, but with luck there will be success there as well.

4. MINIS! :D:D

I want to give the mini a good solid try as well, although this one is really really optional... there are a lot of things I can't do (yet!) so that limits my participation some. But I will make an honest effort to try whatever is available and hopefully I can pull it off. *crosses fingers*

Progress indeed! Good challenges, too. "Try" is a good way to see what your current level is, and how difficult it would be to make it a new challenge. Having a baseline is always a good idea for measurable progress. Looking forward to seeing you nail this challenge, too!

Day 2 with no Diet Coke was a win! No walking though, as I felt quite under the weather and that tends to make my coordination go right out the window. But I didn't eat out at all and I would have walked if I could, so I'm counting it as a mental win. :)

Day 3 started off quite miserable, so I had a very small amount of Diet Coke to wash down some pain meds as the caffeine will help them work faster. I'm waffling over counting it as a no-Diet Coke day since it was only two mouthfuls. *ponders* But lunch in in the bag and I'm ready to rumble! With luck I'll be feeling better enough to get some walking in when I get home.

I think I'm going to look over Couch to 5k and see if I can adapt it to my walking goals... I can do an hour on the treadmill now, but slowly, so it's mostly a speed and not an endurance issue for that goal. ...I really want to add wall push-ups back in and some mobility stretching, but I think I'll do those as non-goals for now. It's very very hard not to over-commit when I'm seeing all the cool things other people are doing in their threads. I want to do that all NOW! ;)

Looked over the C25K program and it looks like I should be able to just slowly increase the number of minutes I'm walking at 3mph slowly over the month and that should do it. So I whipped up this awesome spreadsheet that will tell me how many minutes a day to go... plus it tracks my overall steps and dogwalking, just so I have incentive to do slow walking as well. ;)

My dog is such an encouragement for me to get outside. She's not remotely put off by miserable weather either.

Unrelated to your fitness goals... If you've got your own treadmill, have you tried getting the dog to walk on it? If she is dragging you around, she would likely love a good hard run occasionally.

Alas, I have and she's really not that into it. I actually have a long enough deck on the treadmill that she could walk behind me, which she does now and then, but very rarely. On a semi-good(?) note, our older dog will most likely pass away in the next few months which means the fluffy puppeh will get getting a new younger playmate to run laps with in the back yard. Plus, if I'm lucky, I may be in shape to sprint with her (and the new dog) by the end of the year! :)  (I'm never going to be a marathoner, but I used to play soccer, so I know somewhere the sprinting ability is hiding.)

Mixed blessings there with the older dog. Losing a partner is so hard, but will help out the new puppers. And I hear you on the sprints vs marathon. Can't run more than 1/10th of a mile at a time, but by gosh, that'll be the fastest 1/10th of a mile it can be. :)

Still going strong! :D:D:D *dance*

2. I will walk every day

Still under the weather enough that this isn't a good idea, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. *sighs* It's definitely a cold of some sort, which I haven't had a proper one in awhile-- at least it's something different? ;)

3. I will try and cook more

My goal was to bring lunch every day except Friday and WIN! :D We did go out to dinner last night, but both of us were feeling sickly so we went out. I didn't pick the best food (rolls, cheese fries, and a garden side salad), but I didn't overeat too badly. I really need to get some freezer meals and canned meals made for days like these. We've both just gotten out of the habit of dinner prep.

4. MINIS! :D:D

N/A *waits patiently* ... *waits impatiently* ... Is it January 8th yet?

1. I will not drink Diet Coke

On Day 5 and still alive...I got this! :D It's been years since I've stopped drinking Diet Coke for any length of time, so I am super hyper to make this one stick come heck or high water. Normally once I've got it out of my system for a week or so it actually starts tasting bad. If I can just get to the end of January without any I think I can make this one a permanent change.

2. I will walk every day

Sick, sick, sick... so no. :(

3. I will try and cook more

I've been on a soup kick since I got sick, so... I warmed the soup up, that counts as cooking, right? ;)

1. I will not drink Diet Coke

Day 6, and even though there is a two-liter in the house all I have done is use it to help swallow pills the other day. So it's not even like I don't have the temptation.. it's right there! *points dramatically* ... *realises it has been moved and repoints* Oh well, you get the idea. I am going to win this part of the challenge so bad. Srsly.

2. I will walk every day

My noise is a faucet and/or completely clogged and I'm still coughing, so no walks for me. Colds last 5-7 days, right? So this should be gone soon? Please?

3. I will try and cook more

Soup, soup, soup, noodles with butter, tea, milk tea, soup...

4. MINIS! :D:D

EDIT: I also finished the first short story in my 52 in 52 adventure and got it posted up to Scribophile... and so far the reviews aren't horrible! :D (Which is sort of amazing because this is one of the more confusing 'verses I write in: humans thinking in non-human mindsets).

Did I vanish from the face of the internets? Why yes, yes I did! *facepalm*

I ended up working from home Mon & Tues during the Virginia snowpocalypse and for some reason that wore me out enough that I immediately took a five hour nap when I got off. Which means nothing got done those days. Yesterday I managed to not nap, but all I got done was some writing. (Darnit!)

But anywho.

1. I will not drink Diet Coke

Still going strong! I really want to hold out on the 'none at all' portion of this and so far I've been lucky because having the cold means I can't taste anything and am less likely to miss it. I've also been drinking a LOT of tea, which means the caffeine is back, but I should be able to step that down the same way. Oddly it's always been the addiction to nutrasweet and not the caffeine that's given me issues. :P (When I first quit Diet Coke I tend to chew a LOT of gum... which has the nutrasweet in it. Then it fades out and I go back to gum as a sometimes food. )

2. I will walk every day

Nope. I tried yesterday, but was just too dizzy.

3. I will try and cook more

Hubby has actually been doing the cooking since he's been out of school. Now that it's started up again I need to start pulling my own weight! I also declared this week at work 'buy lunch' week, because I am having a hard time being hungry due to the cold.

4. MINIS! :D:D

I need to reread the rules on this, but I think I may have to play from the sidelines this time. I really need a way to put a pullup bar in my house! *grumps*

I'd say this was a win since it sounds like you are still recovering from being sick.

Our society is too obsessed with thinking that the second sickness is gone we should be back to 100% or even try to do 100% while sick.

And if you couldn't walk because you were to dizzy? Guess what it still counts because you tried and you couldn't. And the point is to get to it whether you can accomplish it or not might depend on if you are sick or not. So give yourself some credit. :)

Listen to @Dagger, she is super smart. "feeling better" is not the same as "100% well." Glad you're starting to improve though!

As far as the mini, could you do incline pull-ups underneath a table or desk? Or just skip the pull-up part and do the other three sections? Just a thought.

So very very much this... I feel so lazy for not pushing through this and doing ALL the things! Which is counter productive and bad for me and I still want to do it anyways. *sighs* But I am starting to feel a little better today (I went for a walk out to get lunch) and I've gotten more steps than usual, so I'm going to go give the mini a try! :)

@Anim07734 said that inverted rows were okay, so I'm going to try putting my quarterstaff between two chairs and see. If I can't get it to work I'll figure something out. Worst case I can probably borrow the kid's jungle gym at the park near me on the weekends or something. If I'm going to properly AIBARN then I need to at least try and find a solution! :)

That said... I think I will be a Mage Rogue. Right now my max for all of these will be in that range (or less) and I can always move up to something harder if I get too many. *crosses fingers*

AMRAP 4 - Push - Wall Pushups. I can do these, although it's been a while so I sort of need to start over. (update: oh good gravy this is harder than I remember)

AMRAP 0? - Pull - Inverted Rows. I can maybe do these? I can try at least! Just need to go digging in the basement and find my quarterstaff. :) (update: quarterstaff and chairs are working, but I can't get my butt off the floor. Is this something I can do from the waist up, like knee-pushups? I will have to ask.) ((update update: I asked! :D))

AMRAP 5 - Legs - Assisted Bodyweight Squat. Bodyweight Squats. Pretty sure I can do five of these, may be able to do bodyweight squats, but we'll see. (update: I couldn't find anything to hold onto in a non-awkward way and I could just barely do five of these before my form started getting wonky, so yay for level 2!)

AMRAP 2 - Core - Flat Knee Raise. I can't do five, but I'm pretty sure I can do three :D (update: yeeeah, I barely made 2. This one is going to be a hard one! :()

Off to adventure and I'll be back in a bit to update this!

This post is just notice to the universe that I will be walking from 7-8pm tonight, even if it's really really slowly.

...That is all.

*solemn nod*

EDIT -------------------------------------------------------------------

1. I will not drink Diet Coke

I wanted to have a soda LIKE WOAH for a few seconds today, but it passed rather quickly, so I'm still on track. I'm trying to swap the iced tea back over to water, but I really OD on it during my cold, so it's slow steps back again.

2. I will walk every day

30min! :D Okay, so it was only at 1.4mph, but I walked! :D:D I would have gone longer, but the mini exercises from yesterday really did a number on my legs. ...I am not sure how, but oof! So achy! :(

3. I will try and cook more

I ate lunch out (again) but I had dinner at home so semi-win (Leftover homemade curry FTW!). I'm going to try and get some meals planned over the weekend and get back to bringing lunches next week.

4. MINIS! :D:D

Looks like I will be able to play after all! Thanks to a bunch of good suggestions over in the challenge thread it looks like I have several things I can work on for Pull. So bring it on! ^_^  (Well, bring it on every-other-day at least, this is going to take some getting used to!)
