From Ice-Cream Cone to Drink of Water

Recommended Posts

We'll skip over the tragic beginnings for now, as to truly relate them would require a memoir of epic proportions (and probably several libel lawsuits).

Instead, we'll begin with last night. After a couple weeks of starting back on an (albeit half-hearted) exercise regimen, and breaking my big toe in the process, I decided to take a couple of pictures of myself in my skivvies for "reference." Some folk look like a pear. Some, and apple.

I looked like an ice-cream cone. Ew. I won't be posting those pics anytime soon. If ever.

After the subsequent temper tantrum and crying fit, I decided that enough was enough. Time to get my body into a shape that doesn't resemble snack food. Unfortunately...my toe is still broke, so running is out for a few weeks (which killed my chance to run the 5K I signed up for...kinda bummed about it). So, building back up, I'll be hitting the elliptical until I can hit the streets again.

I also plan on signing up for Wing Chun Kung Fu. The nearest dojo is 30 minutes from the house, but it's either that or the Krav Maga dojo 45 minutes from me. I've taken Krav and prefer it, but I am really looking forward to saying, "I know Kung Fu." :D

I am also hitting the body weight exercises. When I get the routine down, I'll let everybody know how it goes. Right now, life is in a bit of transition and I have a two-hour commute to work...which stinks.

My plan is to be less than 20% body fat in 6 months. Right now, I'm weighing in at Hutt-ish 38%.

My ultimate goal is to go from being a squishy frozen treat to a "drink of water" ninja-jedi.

Wish me luck!

Welcome and good luck! I have also just recently decided to seriously do something about my weight and shape! My target goal is to lose about 80 pounds by the end of the year. (Currently 240) It also seems like a lot but I'm willing to give it my all!

@MirGSS--I use US Military and one from Livestrong.com. The basic measurement is the same. I use the USM one because a) in a previous life I wore cammo and B) they're usually more discriminating.

Go here: http://550cord.com/products/info.asp?ProductID=7&product=Army-Fitness-Calculator and use the Body Fat calculator on the right side of the screen. From all my research, it's fairly accurate. It does round to the nearest .5%, though.
