I'm sticking with keeping things very simple and foundational.  Yeah, I'll still post about the PARKOUR!!!, but even with parkour, I'm going to work on some fundamentals.  I'm not being boring.  I'm just training like a Jedi. ;)  I'm going to make a spreadsheet and check the boxes each day to keep myself honest.  A lot of these are just the bare minimum, and I hope that I'll often feel inclined to do more.

1. Darebee Strength protocol workout every weekday.  These are short and simple, but they certainly facilitate doing strength work every day.  I'm currently up to Day 7.

2. Yoga mini session every weekday.  These can be NF Yoga minis, 10-15 minute youtube videos, or even short arm balancing sessions.

3. Parkour fundamentals:

a) 5 PK rolls every weekday.  It seems like whenever I lapse in training these, I revert to aikido rolls.  :hopelessness:

B) Rail walking for at least a couple minutes every weekday.  I lost my mojo after falling while doing 180 degree turns and dislocating my elbow.  I want to comfortably walk, go into QM, stand from QM, turn, and all of that while on a rail.

c) Grip training.  I stopped climbing, and now my grip kind of sucks.  The goal is to hang on my hang board at least a couple times every weekday.

4. Boring evening snacks:  Less junk and less booze in the evening.  My current habits are so bad that I'm not going to be super strict with this. I just want to improve.  I'm allowing myself fruit, veggies, cheese, nuts, and a very modest amount of sweets.  I'm cutting back on the empty carbs and booze.  The goal is only 1 evening of unhealthy snacks per week.

5. Parenting like a Jedi: Read the book "Taking charge of ADHD" (currently on hold at the library).  Look into webpages and other support.  Hopefully, the knowledge therein will help me be a bit less exasperated and dark-side-ish and more like a Jedi.

Bonus:

Coding fundamentals: By the end of the challenge, I hope I have my project cleaned up and ready to launch.  I'm about 90% done, but I have a lot of profiling, implementing best practices, and cleaning up to do.  So, once again, I have boring fundamentals on my plate.

This is NOT boring. :D  I've been interested in parkour since shortly after joining NF and have been training a little bit myself ever since.  Any chance you'd like some friendly competition in keeping with your PK fundamentals?  I'd be up for checking off a Google Sheets doc if you're interested.  (No problem if not, of course.)

NF Yoga Touch your Toes mini - DONE

parkour stuff - DONE

I'll most likely work in some extra shoulder stretching, a long nature walk, and some pull ups, too.  But it's nice to be at a point where these are all optional.

We just got a shipment of girl scout cookies.... which really sucks for the evening snacking goal.  I'm going to have to come up with something creative to avoid massive cravings.

To be fair, the Darebee stuff, parkour, and yoga mini all fit into a half hour session. ;)  It may sound like a lot, but it really isn't.

After the winter holidays, I was right here. I started cutting back in last months challenge and now have gone to no snacks between meals, one sweet treat per day allowed (to be eaten after supper), and alcohol only on weekends and then only one drink per night. You can do this. :)

Checking the boxes is working well so far.  Today's Darebee workout, yoga (shoulder mobility work + sage II arm balancing practice), and parkour fundamentals DONE

I was feeling really tempted to do a much longer yoga workout (which is great, since I'm "feeling" the yoga again), but opted instead to take a lovely nature walk.  It's 65 degrees today, but it's supposed to snow tomorrow, so the yoga can wait a day.

For snacks, I picked up some celery on which I can spread peanut butter.  I also nabbed some tiny potatoes that I can roast, some brussels sprouts, some baby carrots, and some mini peppers.  So, I should at least have some options for healthier evening snacks.  Now, it's just a matter of opting to eat the healthy stuff and not the carb-loaded or sugary stuff.  Really, I know that if I can stick to a healthier plan for a week or two, the sugar cravings will be gone.  I just let myself fall into some very bad habits over the holiday season.

And the ADHD book arrived, so I can start reading that tonight.

So far, everything is moving along nicely. :)

Parkour doesn't necessarily have to be scary.  If you have good instructors and use a lot of crash mats, you can ease yourself into a lot of the moves.

Nice start.   That weather is envy triggering.   But at the same time, I hate being teased.  Once I get a taste of that, I tend to be far more growly when it dips back to normal.

The veggies for your evening snack, are you just going to roast them up and nosh on them like ... fatter, healthier chip type things?

It's amazing how fast grip strength goes when you stop using it like you were in bouldering. Your hang board should help plus you could do farmer walks with heavy DB's to help too :)

I'm feeling better!  Yesterday, we chose to visit a museum rather than go hiking, but there still ended up being A LOT of walking.  My food choices were decidedly not great, but I'm not stressing out over them at all.

Today is the Official Day 1, and I'm good-to-go for parkour class!  I'll probably even head there early, so I can do a half hour of open gym beforehand.
