Darkfoxx 34: I Like To Move It Move It

Thanks to Tank, this challenge has a loose theme built around moving and changing. And Madagascar, though I've never *gasp* actually seen the whole movie. I have, however, seen the song referenced :)

I'm sure there will be more of these. 

 

Ok. So ... since I'm moving in 20 days, this challenge is going to be all about change. Again. I feel like change is all I ever freaking do lately (or at least for the past year - first blowing up my life to take a coding bootcamp, then the fallout of that, and now I'm moving boroughs - life has not been status-quo for quite awhile now). 

 

And with this change, knowing myself, I need to focus on a few things:

 

1. Be nice to myself. Change freaks me out. 

2. Be nice, but not *too* nice lest we subsist off of pizza & hoagies for weeks in the new place.

3. Allow myself to not freak out about shit during this move. It's okay. It's all for fun. Life is long and all that. 

 

Goals this cycle are a rollover from last - shoving new things into the mix now when life is getting ready to be flipped upside down yet again is a recipe for disaster.

As a refresher:

 

Goal 1: Work Out

 

However this happens, it happens. I'm still aiming for an hour-long yoga class 2x a week - 1 hot; 1 not. As it's been, Wednesday is not-hot yoga - Friday is hot yoga. My not-hot yoga instructor is leaving any day to have a human, so this may or may not throw an additional monkey wrench into my plans. 

 

Also: move week I'm not forcing myself to find a class if I can't handle life.

Goal 2: Macros

 

I've been mostly keto for the past few months, and am sticking to that. It's working well for me. 

 

I need to remember during move week that I feel like absolute shit if I go off the rails (especially if I then eat way too much). This is going to be tricky to remember in the face of new delivery options.

Goal 3: Job Stuff

 

The ultimate goal is to find a full-time one. 

 

In the meantime ... 

 

Continue teaching 2x a week (and figure out if I'll have the opportunity to continue in future classes - plus when those will be).

Continue my 5x a week CSS coding exercises until that challenge ends.

Pick my Daily JavaScript challenge thing back up when CSS ends.

Dedicate 5 - 10 hours a week (aim for 10) to writing copy for my old boss.

Continue to do a nominal amount of work for the free company until we launch and/or start making money. Ideally, start on the Version 2 revamp.

Continue to submit 10 applications a week and go on any interviews that garners.

Attempt to add some weeknight networking meetups in place of Wednesday night yoga (and move Wednesday night yoga to another time) after teacher has bounced.

Goal 4: Minimize

 

Move day is the 27th. Until then, pack and minimize. Minimize and pack. When in doubt, throw it out.

If it helps, you inspire me in a truly tangible way - whenever I start panicking about that new job I applied for, I just think - if Darkfoxx can upend her entire life, I can do this thing!

@DarK_RaideR: Whoo. So much life upendment - and yet none? tl:dr version: Middle East job temporarily passed, but he's still on the top of the list -- maybe Spring? Maybe never? In the meantime, we are moving to another borough of NYC to save boatloads of cash and try and dig ourselves out of the little hold we've found ourselves in.

In true Ranger fashion, Zero Week is irrelevant.

 

Goal 1: Work Out

 

Nope.

 

Goal 2: Macros

 

Probably.

 

Breakfast: Roasted tallow broccoli, 2 eggs & avocado bowl + coffee

Lunch: Leftover Japanese stir-fry bowl with extra sesame oil

Dinner: Roasted tallow broccoli with Parmesan chicken + mayo

 

Goal 3: Job Stuff

 

3.5 hours of copywriting.

Mostly finished my CSS challenge of the day.

Created an exercise for the class on Flexbox that it seems people liked?

Ran into two former instructors and chatted with them a bit.

Spoke to the CEO of a startup aimed at finding non-traditional tech people (like me!) a job. Just not the kind of job I want -- she said she would keep my info because they sometimes get one-off jobs that are right up my alley (looking for a single front End Developer vs to fill 20 software developer slots).

 

Goal 4: Minimize

 

Nope. I imagine this goal is going to be kicked into overdrive this weekend.

Yesterday

 

Goal 1: Work Out

 

Much needed yoga class. Tonight was my instructors' next-to-last class.

 

Sads.

 

It was a good one, though my balance was a bit poo and I felt weak.

 

Plus: I just can't get my brain to commit to knee-to-nose or knee-to-elbow tucks anymore. I half-ass them 'just in case' we end up doing 20 so I can conserve my energy. This is not a useful brain plan.

 

Goal 2: Macros

 

Probably fine.

 

Breakfast: Broccoli, 1/2 an avocado, 2 eggs fried in butter + coffee

 

Lunch: Broccoli/chicken/mayo

 

Dinner: "blue" London broil + roasted green beans

 

Post-yoga snack: Peanut butter fat bombs

 

Goal 3: Get A Job

 

Completed half my daily CSS challenge

 

2 hours of mind-numbing copywriting

 

Applied for 5 jobs

 

My phone screen was re-scheduled due to managerial travel drama

 

Goal 4: Minimize

 

No work done here, though I have a new obsession: those damn bullet journals. A number of you are on the "bujo" (shudder) bandwagon - aaaand so are some of the YouTubers I follow.

 

I've avoided it this far - despite it combining my very favorite things in life (writing, lists, needlessly draconian rules, the propensity for obsession) mainly because I worry about crawling so far up my own ass I can no longer see the light of day - but I think I'm giving in. I spent a good hour yesterday watching bullet journal videos to determine what pages would work well for me --- and came to the realization that I already damn do this, just with less structure and less pretty.

 

So. If Hoth calms the F down later today, I'm hitting up Muji for a good and fresh notebook. If not: I'll practice on my current notebook.

 

This seems like a great way to keep track of moving shit, job shit, food planning --- and maybe even social media posting. You know. In case I might actually want to put any effort into my blog.

 

Evernote is fantastic and all, but will never replace a physical notebook in my heart.

I love the bullet journal, but I'm an old school Ryder style  with a LITTLE bit of fun sometimes. I started doing it 3 or 4 years ago and it's really just the daily lists of tasks for the most part, plus a few colorful pens here and there :) It really helps to have a place to write everything down! I am more likely to remember with pen and paper, for sure. The digital methods just don't work for me.

Lunch: The last of the chicken & broccoli with mayo

Mini-Snack: A hand full of habanero almonds

Dinner: London broil & cauli rice with butter

Snow Day Snack: Whiskey & Diet Coke

Moar Snack: Pecans & some more of those almonds

 

Goal 3: Get A Job

 

Today was a snow day throughout the city - I did not go to my scheduled free job meeting.

 

Applied for 5 jobs.

 

Finished the previous days' CSS drawing.

 

Did zero copywriting as planned.

 

Goal 4: Minimize

 

Got a fair amount done here.

 

The DH ripped through his closet and the gaming center.

 

Got 2 donation boxes packed up - only 1 of which hits anywhere near the weight limit.

 

Also tore through 2 shoeboxes + half a cube of pictures and filled the new albums - and can now close the Rubbermaid bin most of my albums are in.

 

The DH is baffled by all these pictures - and my drama with them - and I'm sure wants to light the whole pile on fire so they don't cost us any more money or cause me any more anxiety.

@Fonzico: Close to - I think this is year 3 on the project?

 

At this point, digitized pics are mixed in with non-digitized pics and I have no idea wtf is going on. I still have a little bit of my pics from college and beyond to go through - those are at least neatly labeled in envelopes and I won't feel as horrible about ruthlessness (hopefully).

 

Aaaaand the big stack of cards + letters + my mother's big stack of cards + letters. Some of those are comedy gold. She and my grandmother spent more time than one would think sniping at my father - who she was divorced from at 22 - I'm guessing around big life transitions when either something had changed with him or us. It's interesting insight, and daaaaaaaamn did she perfect Southern cattiness in her old age.

Yesterday

 

Goal 1: Work Out

 

Made it to hot yoga. Class went kinda crappy body-wise. I felt like I was handling the heat okay, but my arms just wouldn't hold circulation, and I felt generally fairly weak. Still powered through about a third of the vinyasas, and managed to commit to the knee to nose, elbow & opposite elbow moves (all 4 sets).

 

Didn't drink a lot in class - only took 1 hard break to open my water - and by the end of class my brain that wouldn't settle down in the beginning 'sitting here getting acclimated to the temperature while hanging out in restorative fish' time was ready to fall the F asleep during corpse.

 

Goal 2: Macros

 

Avoided delivery Indian FTW.

 

Breakfast: Too watery smoothie that did not taste like vomit but was too watery to be pleasant + coffee

Lunch: London broil & the last of the cauliflower rice + butter

Dinner: The last of the London broil, the last of the roasted green beans, and the leftover cauliflower mash

Snack: Raw pecans & Bloody Mary spiced peanuts

 

Goal 3: Get A Job

 

Finished my werewolf CSS thing

Started Superman

 

Found out I made the featured drawings weekly email for not one but TWO of my drawings for last week :D

 

Phone screen with a company that sounds lovely

 

Copywriting

 

Goal 4: Minimize

 

I don't think I got anything done here today - don't remember.

Nope, but I did get a fair bit of walking in.

 

Goal 2: Macros

 

Probably not, but mitigated my face off.

 

Breakfast: No-atmeal with coffee

Lunch: Went to paleo shangri-la and had the chicken mushroom wrap (made with coconut flour & tapioca starch) - probably too carb heavy

Snack: Half a grande misto with almond milk

And zero popcorn at the movie (went to see John Wick 2 and it was fantastical)

Dinner: Whole Foods hot bar - pork loin, greens & cabbage with bacon + added butter because the pork was bone dry by the time I got it home.

Snack: The last of my raw pecans + Bloody Mary peanuts

 

Goal 3: Get A Job

 

Weekend. No work done here.

 

Goal 4: Minimize

 

No work done here, but we did clean up a bit in prep for a friend and that was considering coming over for the fights. Cleaning was well-needed and makes the house look much less dire.

@Big_Show: At least mine is just a local move! It's still necessitating adjustment, but logistically at least things seem easier.

 

Had a strike of genius last night and am now planning on arranging a Goodwill pickup a couple days before the move - if the building will let me book the elevators. We *do* have a few small furniture items to get rid of (+ a big ass bed), and these boxes of books have a zero percent chance of making it to Goodwill on their own.

Breakfast: Coffee

Lunch: Cobb salad at SmashBurger

Dinner: Spanish chicken & chorizo with roasted okra

Snack: Mixed nuts + buffalo peanuts

 

Goal 3: Get A Job

 

No work done here.

 

Goal 4: Minimize

 

Bought more tape and replacement (glass) Tupperware + some more batch cooking containers, so we are all set on the food storage in a small footprint front.

 

Also came up with a plan for the kitchen that allows us time to not have to get more boxes last-minute. I think we will need a few boxes at least for the Goodwill stuff.
