I can't remember who gave me this quote, but it will be with me all year: "Nothing tastes as good as being fit feels"

 

Quest: lose 15lbs and enhance my mind

4am: Morning workouts, alternating between bodyweight days (from Academy workouts, likely Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays) and walking/cycling days (likely Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays)

Stick to <1,500 calories and >180g protein, <50g carbs per day, adjusting fat as a lever if my activity levels merit more calories

Quest: Master Prep Food: weekends most prep, then supplement Wednesday nights (will be tricky on travel weeks), in this challenge, improving my preparation of chicken breast and salmon (and some bacon)

Quest: the mind and career goal of becoming a master trader/investor by passing CAIA Level 1 on March 10th

4am - after meditation and workout, study until time to work at 8am, then study more at lunch

Yes, protein powder will help in a big way. And I'm exploring all options on other protein - the chicken and salmon are more of a skill building goal - would like to get good at making TASTY and NON-DRY chicken breast and salmon - let the experiments begin! Otherwise, I'm open to all suggestions for protein.

I'm cool with protein powder, but its satiation factor is pretty low for most people, like it can leave me feeling not-full after drinking 280 calories. But you might respond differently to liquid calories, gotta experiment I guess. 

Are you cool with cabbage? Times when I've walked away from dinner feeling absolutely stuffed and only ate 500-600 calories, there's usually a crap ton of plant fiber in the dish.

Okay - leading up to the beginning of the challenge - was up late trying to clear out the work inbox, but still got up earlier - about 4:45am this morning. Haven't studied CAIA yet, but food prepped and planned - ready for the day. Let's see if I can get by with just 1 Americano today (instead of the normal 2... or 3 :-D )

Your challenge title speaks to me... I'm breaking up with bread too. So love/hate.

 

And you gotta be roasting that cabbage! Chop it up, mix in your fat of choice and a splash of water, and stick it in a 375 oven for 45 mins or so, stirring a couple times and adding small amounts of water if it's burning too much. A little burning is a good thing.

 

Also good is stove-top - a little oil, some onion and some broth, low heat and lid on. It takes a while but it melts in your mouth when it's done.

Best way to cook tender, soft chicken- in a soup in a crock pot. Stick the chicken, frozen, in your crock pot with soup mixings for like 8 hours, then shred it at the end. Stuff just falls apart. 

 

Another option is pan fried. Thawed chicken cooked in a little bit of olive oil or similar and a bunch of spices. I used to cook a piece of chicken and some chopped up bits of onion together in a bit of olive oil with salt, pepper, garlic powder, italian seasoning, and a bit of crushed red pepper.

Solid recommendation on crockpot chicken. I think pan fried chicken can be especially tender if you put the breasts in the pan frozen, and cook them with a little water and the lid on the pan. Once they're semi thawed, pull them out and cube the chicken, dump the water, and sauté in butter or oil along with your onions and garlic. Keep the lid on for more tender results. 

Or for real lazy asshole cooking, throw a bag of frozen broccoli or stir fry veg in with the raw onions. Hot one dish meal in about 20 minutes of cook time.

Wednesday 2/8/2017 slice...

 

As noted above, was up 4:50am

Workout - walked about 45 minutes (not much else)

Eating - was clean... until evening, when my later-night snacking happens. This is where I fail most often - and it might best be solved by my early mornings (forcing earlier bed times). I'd love to have a habit of being done eating after a 5-ish dinner. Otherwise, I will just keep destroying all progress made in the day.

 

My focus after dinner tonight: Nothing tastes as good as being fit feels

Maybe when you reach for a snack, you could get gum or something instead? Another option is a hot drink (tea, coffee, etc) that's low cal/sugar/etc

Success! I did not eat 2 slices of heavily buttered toast late last night... ate nothing really (after dinner)! Thanks again

Just did my first workout in a very long time - didn't even go to a gym - just super easy Bodyweight level 1 from the academy. It is kinda sad how timid I was about just doing this - there's NOBODY ELSE HERE to be intimidated by! Why so timid? ugh.

 

But a great start to the day - time to work hard and eat healthily.

I hear that! I did Yoga yesterday and it was so hard I was sweating and breathing hard by the end. (It really should not have been that hard). I just keep reminding myself the muscles and conditioning will catch back up sooner than I think. The important part is we started again.

It's scary starting or re-starting anything. Especially for people like us that have had complicated relationships with fitness, it's understandable. You're doing well friend, just keep showing up, even if the results aren't immediate.
