I'm not new to Nerd Fitness, but I'm new to participating, this is my fist challenge.

And boy do I need it. I need a kick in the pants to knock myself out of this funk that I'm in. You can see that my goals are sort of fun focused, but I'm hoping that they will tie into bigger goals later down the line. I'm not a gamer personally, but I love the idea, so I'm hopeful that this will work for me. I plan to post my battle log/updates at least every couple of days to keep myself accountable.

Just dropping in to point towards the new Mini Challenge that has just been set up. :) I also recommend you have a look at the pinned posts in general, if you haven't already, especially the juice bar and information thread.

Suggested dance: the opening dance from Austin Powers. My friend and I mastered that in high school in a few hours just by watching that scene over and over again.

Or maybe you'll want to learn a cool dance. Lol.

I'm eager to watch your progress!

I'll check this out today, I found a hip hop one which should be fun, but the Austin Powers one would be so much better come time food GISHWHES this year. Thank you for the suggestion!

Good luck on the path. I love this kind of dance

Oh my God!  I just watched this and I soooo want to do this.  Even though my phone squished the video so that he looked about 3ft tall and incredibly well built, lol!

@J3NN was it you that said you loved line dancing, or am I getting mixed up?  Someone said it recently anyway.

High five for GISHWHES. I've never done it but I've enjoyed watching people go nuts every year.

As promised... the long awaited Update!

Quest: Birthday Dance

  • Find a dance I think I can learn

    • Thanks to a suggestion from @GardenGeek I'm going the focus on the Austin Powers sequence in the Goldmember opening. I got a new cord for the gym TV, hard to watch videos if the thing won’t power up. I also got a cheap DVD player so I can practice my zumba video which has remained unwatched since Christmas...2015. (sigh)

  • Find a how-to video teaching me how to do the dance

Quest: Sing like no one's listening

  • Pick a song

    • I’ve selected Big Girls Don’t Cry by Fergie. I’ve been listening to it on repeat. I’ll write it out tomorrow night. I ultimately settled on this song for two reasons. 1) Years ago on New Year’s Eve we were playing a karaoke game on the Xbox or some such device and I sang this song. It was the first time I’d ever sung in front of people that weren’t related. According to the game I got 99% accuracy. That made me feel pretty good. With that confidence I think I can do this again. 2) In the song she’s taking time for herself “Center, peace, clarity, serenity” – I feel like I’m on that journey. Somewhere (the book or one of his blog posts) Steve talks about your alter ego, the superhero that’s leveling up their life. You still have your day job, but by night you get to do this amazing adventure, of your own choosing. I see that reflected in this song. I’m going to be singing to the day job version of me and giving myself permission to do something more.

    • Side note about this part of the challenge, selecting a song was incredibly hard for me. I had a blast delving into playlist after playlist walking down memory lane. I made my own playlist of songs I love to song and upon reflection, I think looking at what I love tells a story that I’d never realized before. That’s another post though.

Quest: Become a mastermind

·         I’ve been thinking about what I want. I don’t know if any of you have heard of Escape Adulthood (check it out if not). Jason talks about his tinker project, “For a long time, I have yearned for an outlet that would allow me to explore the ocean of ideas that populate my brain. Not the ones I’m pretty sure will work, but the stuff that stands a pretty good chance of NOT working. Enter The Tinker Project.” Someone else has talked about having a side gig, just in case your day job doesn’t work out. For me, I want the Mastermind Group to be my accountability support group to keep me going on my own tinker project, my blog. I haven’t figured out how to write this out yet, but I’m getting closer. For a long time I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to focus on a work mastermind group or the tinker project. Recent events in my life have solidified my belief that I need to focus on my tinker project. So at least I’ve narrowed that down. Now I just need to write it in my charter format.

I've had some revelations. This is easier to dream about than it is to do. If you guys hadn't been posting and engaging and sharing ideas, I would have already dropped the challenge and quit. At work they love me because I get stuff done. I think I overcompensate for that at home and completely flake on every project I want to do for myself. It's the rebel in me I guess. I don't want to be a flake. I want to have fun. So I'm thanking you all to keep posting, keep encouraging and keep holding me accountable. You are all incredibly appreciated!
