Yasha embraces the RangerBrain(TM)

Hello my friends! Yasha’s back again with the second challenge of the year. I had great succusses last challenge and hope to keep that momentum rolling through this challenge, dsepite (because of?) having a lot on my plate in terms of commitments.

Learn all the things! I started back at the Master of Business on Wednesday of zero week and will be continuing through with it until the 28th of April. I have also signed up for a Diploma in Languages starting on the 27th February to learn Mandarin Chinese. I will dedicate myself to AT LEAST  2hrs study per week in addition to face-to-face class time. I want to maintain my distinction average and be fluent in the second language asap. Get in my head, language!

Eat all the things! (or rather, don’t eat all the things). 5 days Paleo (plus potato), 2 days variance available (but not required!). After all the dramatic difference from doing whole30 last challenge (which is honestly just Paleo plus the occasional white potato) I’m keen to keep it up this challenge as well. Mr and I really missed going out on our dates though, so we’ll be strongly Paleo(pp) for 5days a week (likely the M-F workweek, but flexible enough that if someone wants to go for drinks on a weeknight we can do the shuffle), then have the option for 2days a week variance, this could be a meal, a drink or the whole day (but try not to go too crazy).

Exercise all the days! Keep up with the Monday-Thursday morning gym classes plus hit 10,000 steps/bike ride/mountain climbing on the other days. If I do both classes on Monday morning I have the option to sub-out a day where I don’t hit the 10,000 steps.

Tick all the boxes! Mr loved it when I was doing the daily list and he has requested its return twice, I will do up a list and add the photo of it tonight after class. I’m expecting similar type daily tasks (water the plants, teeth and face care, a little cleaning, take vitamins) and will definitely be bringing back the affirmation because I AM a badass ranger of awesomeness, I just need to remind myself of that sometimes.

First to follow. This looks like a good set of goals. Are we still going to get meal pics?

I feel a flutter of pride when I share my pretty paleo noms, so definitely on the 5Ppp days there will be photos... whether there are comparison photos of the variances... in not sure yet, I don't want to lead anyone astray, but I also want to be accountable for what I choose... perhaps it's finally time I learned how to "spoiler" on the phone...

Hi! I've seen you around on other peoples' threads and you seem like a cool gal. So imma follow you. :3

Ah, Rangerbrain, the universal affliction of Rangers everywhere...

Welcome, welcome! I'm cool?! I shall go back in time to inform high school me how the tides have turned! Ranger Brain is usually simmering on in the background but I figured this time since I have so many compulsory things going on I'd roll them all into a nice little challenge package.

Following. [emoji4]

Noot noot!

Yes, yes you are.

:D not sure if that will be every days affirmation, but it sure was today's :D

Following all the things!

Ahoy-hoy crashy, now I want you to picture a gif of a cat scampering crazy-like trying to catch dozens of laser pointers... coz that's what I'm picturing:D

Here to be tortured by those fantastic meal pictures!

Your wish is granted *wiggly fingers that motion to the next post*

Learn all the things! The first class tonight and it was a substitute teacher as our teacher was stuck in a different country O_o thankfully the sub was the teacher who actually wrote the course, pulled back from study leave to do this one class. I enjoyed it well enough. We didn't mention the required readings at all but that's ok, I'm sure they will become useful as we draw closer to assessments.

Eat all the things! Compliant day, banana, sausage, eggs, salad, tomato, then salmon with wilted spinach, capers and tomatos, a not very picturesque piece of chicken and a carrot and a paleo bar before class. Also a serve of grapes and some almonds.

Exercise all the days! Gym this morning and it was a doozy, we were aiming for 100 of everything in 25mins, I did the 100m lunging then 80 of everything else (I was 10away from 80 on boxjumps but I pushed them out in the cool down time).

Tick all the boxes! Because I set up the list once it was already dark I skipped the water plants entry, seeing as it's been raining for three days straight I'm sure they will be fine.

I like the subtle placement of the dice in the corner.

Well this isn't just any old fitness site...

I missed those. We have that same set. Hubs calls them his punk dice [emoji4]

Oh, btw, following!

Yup, these are my half-orc barbarian dice for my Duunack, pinkish and black splodged, piggy snouted Duunack. Definitely one of my fave characters.

Mr went ahead and finished it after the timer stopped like the crazy maniac he is :P ... he also threw up though, so maybe not advisable.

Quick update for Thursday, fell asleep on the couch and missed a lot of my goals, luckily still 0week and a good reminder to get anything that needs doing done before turning on a movie.

Learn all the things! Watched all of one movie and most of another, these are two of the three movies I need to watch then decide on one to do a report on the leadership style it portrayed. Not counting it towards hours as I was mostly just getting a feel for the story of the movies, the critical stuff will come later.

Eat all the things! Started out whole30, decided to have a variance for dinner as the eat street was on with all the street food and it is difficult to tell what is in some of the food, plus Nachos is not at all compliant. Mr and I split a beef brisket dish served on flatbread, we tossed the flatbread but the salsa type sauce was likely non compliant, we also split a nachos which most of the ingredients were non compliant, beans, cheese, cream, corn chips (which we threw most of them away once we'd finished using them as cutlery). I didn't take individual photos of those non compliant foods... but I did take one of the brisket cooking. The important thing about this variance was recognising the urge to go all out and not doing so... I really wanted a milkshake but could not find one, in the past that would have been license to go 'stuff it' and drink a bunch of other crappy things that I didn't actually want, just to try and fill the gap where the milkshake should have gone.

Exercise all the days! Benchmark test! The trainer was running late but I had the photo on my phone so I wrote it up on the board while we tried to get in contact with the trainer. Someone managed to touch base with him and we found he had slept in and to please start without him if possible. So I set a timer and 'ran' the class, calling the times and making sure everyone kept pushing... the difference I feel is in the results, everyone was on average a couple minutes behind where they were the first time, except me and I managed to increase by 20kb swings, 20squat jumps, 15burpees and 100skips. The trainer arrived in the cool down and stretch time very apologetic (his baby is teething and he's never late so he was highly embarrassed), he suggested it was because when we first did the benchmark it was coming off a weekend and we were all well rested, where this time we came off the 500 of doom. I was fighting off sharks last week, so my personal increase could be attributed to that, but I also recognise that I'm no personal trainer and me calling out the occasional 'cmon guys! is not the same as having a PT calling guided instructions.

Tick all the boxes!

Only ticked affirmation because despite being a badass ranger I am also a very sleepy ranger and laying on the couch watching these movies for class was not enough to keep me awake.

All in all not a bad day all things considered.

Friday of 0 week~

Learn all the things! No study tonight, brought my readings home to work on annotations and the such.

Eat all the things! Pretty well compliant the whole day then Mr made mashed potatoes with gravy and they had cheese on them and I ate them anyway and they were delicious... so 3/4s compliant? On the up side Mr identified that chocolate bars are his weakness the same way mine is fizzy drink. He gathered up all the chocolates in the house and tossed them all away (I took them to work and put them in a bowl with a 'have me for a dollar' sticky note. I figure there's probably $10 of chocolate there and any money that comes in from that can go to something far more wholesome... I've been trying to be mindful of potential savings lately and while budget is not something I'm focusing on (this challenge) but is something I'd like to improve on...

I made banana paleo pancakes this morning and had the leftovers for lunch. 2 very ripe bananas, chicken with salad, tomatoes and half an avocado. steak and salad, mashed potato with gravy and a bit of cheese.

Exercise all the days! Only hit 9,000 steps

Tick all the boxes! A bit of a half arsed effort at watering the plants, made up for it by cleaning up the poor cat's projectile vomit... twice.

Saturday of 0-week~

Learn all the things! Finished the movie I fell asleep during and decided to go with the other one for my report seeing as there was a more clear leader in Coach Carter than in Invictus (or perhaps simply because I prefer basketball to rugby... what kind of an Aussie am I?!) no paper based study, but I'm already ahead of the required hours and the challenge hasn't even started yet... game tomorrow got cancelled seeing as Mr has pretty much lost his voice so I may get some study done then.

Eat all the things! Today was a planned variance day. Had an apple for breakfast then a smallish serving of sushi around 1pm after the hairdresser, Mr and I went for dinner at our favourite Mexican place and were mindful of portion size, we ordered roughly half of our traditional fare and I left feeling full by not actually uncomfortable which is generally the end result. I did have two very milky cocktails and the fajitas were full of non-compliant ingredients... still that's why we spent a variance on them. (Picture below contains non compliance, turn your face away if you are weak to temptation and are on a non-variance challenge)

39240c5a1fb94a624352bafb709ef79a.jpg

6a7c76de6a5f7d772f637cec13422d36.jpg

Exercise all the days! Didn't even hit 7,000 today, seems being trapped in the hairdressing hair for three and a half hours really eats into the walking time.

Tick all the boxes! I was grumpy about 'having to' do this tonight, so I made deals with myself the whole way: just have to do the affirmation that takes like two seconds, well you have to wash your face because it was so hot today and you wore a little makeup to dinner... well now you've ticked off more than half you might as well finish the rest...

69267cf8fd2f4ff99f6abfa1857e458a.jpg

I know myself and am better at recognising that whining when I hear it. I'm also better at remembering that I don't actually feel better when I skip these things, that I just feel disappointed when I don't make the effort.

Woot woot gearing up for the start of the challenge!

Bonus hair update photo, more of the same again. Scuse the full length, I was revelling in the fact that the cardigan I bought was a small (I don't remember the last time I wore a ladies small anything!)
