i immediately followed hubstron (no idea why i wasn't!) and liked about 10 photos.

skiing is definitely conditioning! even sledding or tubing can be conditioning too if you're hiking to the top of the hill each run :D

Day 1.5

efabab68439ae1a345b94e2111684ce9.png

Okay, tried 90# again on OHP but it's not happening. I am busting out my new fractionals next week instead to go for 87.5 OHP. I got to try out belted deadlifts for the first time because my sweet new belt came in! Unfortunately, I think I had it a little too tight on my 250# set so I couldn't reset properly by my 3rd rep (aka oops I forgot how to breathe) but the first two weren't bad! I used it on 2 of the 225# sets just to try to figure out where I'd like to wear it and how tight works best for me for deadlifts. I think I have a better grasp on that now, so we'll try 250# again next week and hopefully get all 3. I am basically going to have a repeat week next week for my top sets, but I think that is okay. My new lime green and pink belt:

I followed that workout up with a really dumb conditioning circuit: 10 glute ham raises, 10 push-ups, 20 switching jump lunges, 2 chin-ups, 250m row x 4. R I P my legs.

McNamara: 1/2 splits sessions

Duke: 5/5 lunches prepped, 1/1 dinner prepped

Chandler: 1/2 climbing or conditioning

Veronica: 1/1 weekly planner, 2/3 at home bujo checks

Day 1.6

Gymnastics practice was pretty bland. Tumbling was a mixed bag. I intended to work on my front handspring front tuck front tucks, but was just not getting the timing right. My legs were still kind of tired from Friday, I think. Didn't actually do much else, actually, except my splits drills and basic dance work. I am thinking about learning a back handspring step-out layout stepout, which is mostly a beam series, but without any intention to actually put it on a balance beam. I just want to learn them on floor because I think they look cool. I did a couple of drills for that, but they were a bit scary, haha. For reference:

What makes them scary on the floor? I mean scarier compared all other scary gymnastics things. :P

Oh, the drills were scary. I was trying to do handspring + second handspring onto a panel mat. I am weird about changing surfaces while tumbling and making sure my positioning will line up where it needs to be. Sometimes I elect to move things from our tumbling strip onto a big soft resi mat just to the floor without using 8-inch or 4-inch mats to soften the landings because I get so in my head about being in the right place.

I had a lot of problems May 2015 - Jan 2016 with lower back and upper butt pain on one side that I ultimately wound up going to physical therapy to fix. We didn't entirely pinpoint one cause, but we think it was a combo of overusing my illiopsoas on the left side, generally overusing my low back, and generally UNDERusing my lower abs which turned into a fun collection of SI joint issues and a hip flexor muscle that just didn't turn OFF. I couldn't bend over without pain for months. However, if it was just dysfunction rather than injury (we're still not sure!) then hopefully being armed with my collection of exercises will be enough to help it myself if and when it bugs me and so far that seems to be the case.

It's usually more get-from-one-place-to-another drinking bottles that get left behind rather than hanging-out-outdoors drinking. We have a LOT of college students who feel fondly about road beers and road booze but have to abandon them by the time they get to the club/bar they are going to.

Day 1.7

Went cross-country skiing for the first time! It was kind of weird but I can see how it would become fun if you got good at it. It's kind of like hiking?

We got home later than anticipated on Monday so I didn't make it to the gym or to the store to buy groceries for lunches. That's the mission today: lift and meal prep!

Got ya. I totally get it, I really dislike working with different surfaces. Or even mats that are misaligned. Or have gaps between them. OCD much? :P

Cross-country skiing is the worst! :P But I thought it was a lot more like long distance running than hiking. It takes so much effort and it never ends!

I always assumed that cross country skiing would be a lot like jogging, but not as annoying.  Or at least it seems like it would attract the people who normally run, but can't because it's too cold and snowy.  I'll admit that I've never been curious enough to really even want to try it, since it set off my "ugh.. Cardio" radar.

I totally understand the reluctance to use misaligned mats.  I'm so paranoid at parkour that I'll twist my ankle or snag a toe if I land in a mat gap.

It is more like trail running than like hiking, I'll revise my statement. However, I could see how it could be kind of meditative, enjoyable, out in NATURE type experience, similar to hiking? Plus I was terrible and stopped a lot so it was kind of cardio in-name-only, haha.

Day 2.2

b49f62437072f9a8e88110ebb9543085.png

Easy day, which was good because I had to work late getting together a big proposal. The 205s felt a bit heavier than they should have, but I hadn't lifted since Friday, so I chalked it up to some rust in the system or something. I forgot my new fractionals so I did 125# for 2 sets and then 120# for two sets.

McNamara: 0/2 splits sessions

Duke: 4/4 lunches prepped, 0/1 dinner prepped

Chandler: 0/2 climbing or conditioning

Veronica: 1/1 weekly planner, 0/3 at home bujo checks

My week is looking pretty busy. Going out to dinner tonight with a friend who just moved back, have to get to work putting our new team banner together for the meet on Saturday, cheering at the meet, then going to a BU hockey game, and then Sunday I might go to my friend's restaurant's 2nd birthday party or maybe some kind of Oscars to-do. I had intended to go for a run today because it is getting close to 60 but I left my gym bag at home (again ughughghu) so so much for that. Lifting tomorrow + Friday and maybe figuring out something to do before the meet on Saturday.

Yes ma'am! You probably could do them too. I have thought about going heavier but I get a bit tired at the 10s holds at the end of my sets. Maybe I'll increase anyway. We'll see!

Also, completely unrelated, BUT @CourtnieMarie and @ArgSki77: it's not an obstacle race but it is a fun race in the Middlesex Fells https://www.eventbrite.com/e/vert-sasquatch-2017-tickets-31846391414 I did it a couple of years ago. I like how they call 2.35 miles a sprint...but regardless I am certainly interested...especially for the beer...actually mainly for the beer. Funny thing is I may actually be going to that dispatch concert(town over from where I grew up) that CM mentioned as well...need to see if my friend actually got tickets. If not, I will likely be in for this race.

Re: Yoga mat hip thrusts -- See? It even has the Warrior GL approval stamp. ;)

Re: Races. I'm registered for that free beer race and plan to register for the May Bone Frog challenge which is my favorite obstacle course race of all time. It's got the most obstacles, the best atmosphere, etc. I was going to sign up for Tier 1 because they had a really sick medal last year (#onlyinitfortheswag) but it's sold out already... probably because of the really sick medal. JK, I checked again and they opened up new spots so it is no longer sold out, so I signed up for that.  It has 2x going straight up the face of a ski mountain, RIP me. What do you think about my choice, Heather Chandler?

heath.gif

Yeah, well, you are a mega bitch, Heather. Anyway, last year I didn't run AT ALL, just hiked between obstacles because I was with a friend with an injury and we finished in like ~4 hours. I think I might be able to do the wombo combo in 5.5? We'll see! I hope I can convince someone to sign up for the whole thing with me, hahaha. Otherwise I'll have to make friends on the course, which is fine too I guess -- it's just a long time to spend without a buddy.

Day 2.4

d92ff8af556eda404c850e1defd13c42.png

I failed 180# front squat with the pause again. I think I probably could have had it if I actually committed to the grind, but it stalled and I just went fuck it and dropped it. 175# was still EZ. I practiced using my belt on 2 of the 150# sets. I think I am getting the hang of bracing into it.

McNamara: 0/2 splits sessions

Duke: 4/4 lunches prepped, 1/1 dinner prepped

Chandler: 0/2 climbing or conditioning

I plan on conditioning tonight probably if I'm not too wiped from bench and squat. Tomorrow I think I'll go for a run along the Charles before the meet... considering I just signed myself up for like a 12 mile race, that seems like a smart plan. Also I completely forgot about the splits goal because I haven't done gymnastics this week -- maybe I'll sit in splits while crafting tonight? Do some kicks while I wait for glue to dry? I dunno. I'll make it work.

7c1aed434a06388f46b1fef6272b5a7c.png

225# squats felt so much easier with the belt on. Did some press handstands as well. /flex Worked on the banner and did my splits.

Day 2.6

Went for a 4 mile run along the Charles River before the meet. It was freaking gorgeous outside. I am really happy with the run because I wasn't sure where my conditioning was at as I don't think I had really run since the 5K in December. I had a comfortable 9:30 pace most of the time other than a couple of quick stops to walk/adjust my shoes. My ankles/shins held up pretty nicely as well. I feel like this is a good place to be a few months out from the OCR.

Stretched with the team during warm-ups for more splits credits and did some sideline presses and the like because I was still kind of energetic. I finally debuted my team mascot outfit for the meet:

f1b2dc7c29c1454bdcaca043be681cdd.png

The team took 2nd place! Good times. We went out for food after, then I met up with some friends for the last regular season BU hockey game, still in a dino onesie but with my BU shirt over it. Then I texted my friend who also has a dino onesie to meet up with me at a bar near his house so we could be dinos together. We had a photoshoot, natch.

Day 2.7

Tired hangover day where I spent the whole day on the couch binging House of Lies and watching a bit of the Oscars before going to bed. I was asleep before all the drama, haha.

McNamara: 2/2 splits sessions

Duke: 4/4 lunches prepped, 1/1 dinner prepped

Chandler: 1/2 climbing or conditioning

Veronica: 1/1 weekly planner, 2/3 at home bujo checks

I missed out on a conditioning sesh, which probably would have gotten done on Sunday, but ah well. We haven't prepped food yet for the week, so I may only net 4/5 for that one. I have a miiiild ankle sprain -- really, very mild, I promise! -- with some swelling and bruising from Saturday's dumb dino gymnastics shenanigans. I keep rolling my ankles on landings, which is a chronic problem that I am not 100% sure how to fix. I'm going to see how it feels during deadlifts today. If it protests too much, tonight's workout will turn into conditioning or something instead of my 3 RM deads + OHP workout.
