Broba Fett
Greetings true believers. I got Marvel Unlimited recently and I've fallen (back) in love with the X-men. Specifically I got pulled back in by the newer All New X-Men started in 2012 by Bendis. Of course, because it's Marvel and they can't go a year without a ridiculous crossover, I soon found myself reading four different X-men titles from four years ago. Last month's challenge didn't go great and I was at a loss as to what to do to keep things fresh this month and then realized there may be no better franchise to represent any possible set of goals you could have. So each of my goals this month are based on one of my favorite X-men: Colossus: My favorite mutant ever. By far. The strongest X-man (and super jacked), Colossus will represent my training. I'm moving toward a lower weight, higher rep scheme for awhile. Except for deadlifts. Deadlifts stay heavy. For the Colossus goal to be a success I need to lift at least twice per week. Workout reports will be posted. Nightcrawler: Ever faithful (and even a priest at one time!), Nightcrawler will represent my faith. I'll be attempting to read some scripture every day. It's been a looooong time since I have and I have felt conviction to do so for awhile. No big discussion on scripture or preaching or anything, I'll just be updating whether I got the scripture read or not. Cyclops: Always the epitome of a leader (and way cooler after A vs. X), Cyclops will represent my responsibility goal. I've started a little bullet journal and I've found I'm much more productive when I take a few mins to plan out the big things I need to do for the day in there. So this goal will be to post all the things from my journal that I accomplished the previous day. Wolverine: Yep. You knew he was going to be on here. However, the goal associated with him may surprise you. Wolverine will represent my relaxation goal. Logan is the best there is at what he does. Some of what he does is smoke cigars and drink beers. I am going to take time once per week this month to sit down and relax with either a good cigar or a tasty beverage, preferably both. I know neither of those things are healthy but, frankly, I don't give a damn. Neither is having a stroke from being too wound up. So there we have it. Expect a daily update giving you way too many details about my very un-mutant life. 3 Quote Spoiler Currently... Playing (Video Game): RDR2 DMing: Tyranny of Dragons. First session 11/29. Thanks for checking in! ------------------ I'm sore af at the moment. Started my new programming yesterday with leg day. Tammy came along! I was very proud of her doing some serious lifting for the first time since having her surgery. Squats was a work up to 3x5x185. One of my ex-coaches was there and said my depth looked good. She also suggested I look into switching to front squats to combat my leaning forward issue. Her reasoning: If you lean forward on front squats you drop the weight. Followed that with leg presses. Worked up slowly to 470x8. Felt really good. Didn't do much else because I showed Tammy some machines so she would feel more comfortable coming on her own. (Which she did tonight!) Today went and did chest. Incline bench (very little shoulder pain!) Incline DB press (even less shoulder pain!) and some cable crossover got me pretty good. I then went to the ellipitcal and did 10 tough minutes to really get my heart rate up. I expect chest to be absolutely wrecked tomorrow. 4 Quote Spoiler Currently... I mainly got it to catch up on the new Star Wars comics but I've fallen so far into the mutant hole already. (And I haven't even begun to catch up on anything Punisher, Spiderman, or the old Dark Horse Star Wars!) Definitely worth the $10/mo USD. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Interview went great this morning! It was with the regional manager and she said she wants to travel to my city to have an interview in person with me on the 20th. So unless she was totally blowing smoke and just didn't want to tell me she wasn't interested, it's looking very good. I'm both very excited and trying not to get my hopes up too high. We discussed compensation and it would be a pretty dramatic increase in pay for me, even when you don't factor in my time saved from commuting and the fuel costs for that commute. Good thoughts requested if y'all have the time. Yesterday's accomplishments on top of my usual day to day stuff: Ask my bank to send payoff info to VW - Some of you who have been following along for awhile my be familiar with my struggles with VW's Dieselgate buyback. Yesterday I got an email from VW saying that I can now have my bank fax over payoff info to speed up my buyback. Called them and had it sent over. Research methods of hair loss treatment for interview - Turned out very useful today as she asked me what I know about their services and how I would sell them and such. Meet with Trainer - I'm training a new employee all next week because our trainer is double booked. Special coaching - With an employee who has been lagging in sales. Hopefully got him turned around. I got my first day of devotionals in this afternoon as well. Decided on a plan that covers Elisha. Finishing up work and then hitting the gym for a quick deadlift session while the fiancee goes out to the new 50 shades flick. I believe today's working set is 385x5. 1 Quote Spoiler Currently... Better to puff on a cigar for an hour than eat a whole bag of doritos to chill out. Good to have you along sir, as always. ------------------------------------------------------------- Little bit of a rant here: Tammy and her good friend went out to see the new 50 shades last night. No problems there. The problem is her friend's husband doesn't have a license as he lost it a few years ago and never put forth the effort to get it again and they (our friends) just assumed I was going to pick him up after work since the girls would be in a movie. If she hadn't mentioned it to Tammy in passing on the way to the movie he just would have just sat there waiting for me. And when she said I wasn't planning on it there was apparently some butthurt, like it was inconsiderate of us not to just plan to do so. I'm all for helping somebody out when they need it but I'm not a big fan of being taken for granted. On top of that the gym apparently closes at 9 on Friday so I didn't get my deadlifts in. Oh well. That was last night and today is a new day and it is a better day. Yesterday's accomplishments outside of the day-to-day: Interview for new job mentioned above. Paid all the bills. Took measurements/pics to hopefully help keep myself from. Started my little devotional.' And because I generally suck at posting from Saturday night to Tuesday morning, my to-dos on the journal for today through Monday night: Pay Mortgage. - Done. Devotional all three days. - Today's is done. Payroll. Dinner date with a (different) couple of friends of ours. (Cue this week's beer and relaxation.) Domestic Rangering, beyond the daily upkeep. Make Tammy's Valentines Day surprise while she works Monday. Deadlifts. All the deadlifts. Get some archery in. (If there's time.) 1 Quote Spoiler Currently... Hola! Yeah I believe that is the definition of Ranger Brain. A few months ago I managed to make a spreadsheet of all my hobbies and was able to find logical reasons to do away with 75% of them, leaving room to actually enjoy the ones that remained. Basically all that was left was hunting, fishing, and shooting for my days off and writing/video games in my spare time. Bullet journaling has helped me prioritize a lot as well. I take 10 mins in the morning to jot everything that HAS to be done and then get that all done asap so I can focus on having more time for myself. Quick recap of the past few days: Got almost all the things done that I listed out for Sat-Monday. Tammy accidentally took my keys with her to work yesterday so I wasn't able to get any archery practice in or make that special VD gift I had in mind for her. I did get out and grab her a really nice gift instead though. On the plus side, being marooned at home with my entire day off gave me the change to domestic ranger the shit out of my house. It shines now. VW sent me another email asking for more documentation. This time they needed proof of vehicle acquisition so I sent: Contract with the dealership. Contract with the bank. Copy of cashier check. Copy of state form showing xfer of ownership from dealership to me. Save the dates were sent out Saturday and people are now getting back to us. Exciting! Bought and have been reading a book on hunting by Steven Rinella. Super excited to go hunt Spring Turkeys in less than two months. Prospective new employer contacted me yesterday and set up a third (!) interview, this one in person, next Monday! Super nervous! I am working an early schedule all week as I train a new hire at my new job so my posting may be sporadic but I'll do my best to get caught up with all of your threads with my extra couple hours in the evenings. Hope you all are doing well. 5 Quote Spoiler Currently... Playing (Video Game): RDR2 DMing: Tyranny of Dragons. First session 11/29. Broba Fett tracks em down. Terror is slowly building. Assuming I don't bomb on Saturday with the phone interview I'll be actually getting a hair cut for the first time in over 5 years rather than just buzzing my head. Gotta look as good as I can for a position that is all face to face. Speaking of haircuts, did I mention I'd be expected to use their treatments on my thinning hair? Fabio hair here I come! -------------------------------------- My new hire has reached the point where she's spending some time out on the call floor so i have a few minutes for a legit catch-up post. Monday was a dumpster fire to all of my planned activities (Tammy took my keys to work and locked them in her car so I was stranded at home) but I managed to get almost all the things done with some modification. I deadlifted in the basement with some pause reps since I only have 300lbs at home. Then did some rows. That's the only workout I've gotten in today. This weird schedule makes it hard to do so. Friday I may get another session in after work/before finding my way to Tammy wherever she is at the time. (That's generally her girls' night.) Devotionals have gone well. I forgot yesterday but did two days worth today to catch up. It's been about Elisha and how he jumped on a new opportunity without second thought... Weird... Relaxation happened last Saturday night and again Tuesday night. Beers were drank both times. This weekend is supposed to be freakishly warm so I'm hoping to get a cigar in. I've been cyclops-ing the shit out of my life this week. Turns out having an earlier schedule actually makes it harder to get everything done. Daily routine this week: Up sometime after 5am to get dishes and laundry done. Wake up kid at 6:15 and get her dressing herself and get dogs outside. Shower at 6:30 so I can be out and get the kid out the door when her grandpa picks her up at 7:00. Dress and put up dogs so I can leave before 7:30 for work. Drive an hour to work. Do two jobs (Sales Supervisor and Trainer) from 8:30-5:30. Drive an hour home. Dinner at 6:30. An hour or two of unwinding time before bed. Bed at 9:30. (At the latest. We were in bed before 9 last night.) So yeah, it's been even busier than usual. The idea of a job that not only eliminates my commute but has 8 hours at work per day (working lunch) instead of 9 is supremely attractive right now, regardless of the additional responsibilites/risk of changing careers. But! I've been keeping up with everything. Well, everything except the gym and my nutrition. I've eaten garbage this week. I'm really off the rails on that and need to get my shit together. Especially on weeks where I suddenly go from 3-5 difficult workouts per week to nothing for a week. 5 Quote Spoiler Currently... Playing (Video Game): RDR2 DMing: Tyranny of Dragons.
