Hey ya'll!

First time on the challenges, long time lurker of these amazing forums. Just gotta say you all are super motivating and the way people encourage others to do cool stuff around here is really uplifting.

Ok, enough of that, Its time for a challenge! In 4 weeks, I'd like to get some things DONE:

  • I want to do 5 towel pullups. Done, and now I guess I can crush things with my super hands.

I thought I was decent at pullups, but I like, can't hold onto a towel. I want to get strong and do that.

  • I will fast til noon every weekday.

When I eat, the real hunger starts, and the floodgates open. Lets keep busy and focus on food for later in the day, yeah?

  • I want to run 5k.

Not a 5k mind you. 5k distance. This is mostly contingent on my leg fully healing, as I'm still feeling the aftereffects of overuse from last fall. I want to run again.

  • I will finish at least two books. Easy and done. Moved on to more. Fahrenheit 451 anyone?

I've got a stack of books by my bed, and they need to be devoured. Between the bus and bedtime, I am going to crush this.

  • I will talk to my boss about the future. Done, and now the future is less murky, yay!

I have a contract job. That contract will end this year. I am scared of the future, and of talking to my boss. I have to get strong and talk about the future.

  • I'm going to deadlift 315. Done, now to do it again with even better form.

I've been chasing this for years, stymied by leg injuries and poor form. I'm going to get there in 4 weeks .

  • I will finish my 3d environment.

I fancy myself an artist, or at least, my art school degree tells me I am. I still do some 3d art on the side, and I've been noodling on an environment piece. I'm going to finish it in 4 weeks and its going to look awesome.

I got a bullet journal and aim to plan out every week and be all productive and stuff. Its gonna be great. Heres to progress!

Go forth and reap the gains.

Thanks friends!

I guess the challenge has begun yeah?

Yesterday I tested my leg and ran around my apartment complex. While it was not effortful, I was feeling sharp knee pain within minutes. This might be a more longer term goal than just 4 weeks, but I'm trying not to fall into the pit of despair over it. Got two lovely books going: 'futuristic violence and fancy suits' by david wong, and 'The Partner' by John Grisham. Its 10:30 and I dont have any lunch so I think my fasting is going to take care of itself. Looking forward to deadlifting tomorrow, and its a gorgeous day out. Buckling down for plenty of 3d work this afternoon!

I look forward to hearing about Futuristic Violence. It's on my wish list but I'm in the midst of something. Your review will decide if it stays on the list or gets bumped.

So far its been fantastic. Ridiculous over the top crass yet well written dumb humor. Haven't enjoyed a silly book this much since ready player one.

Sorry about the knee.  Have I mentioned  Kelly Starrett's book  Ready to Run to you before? It is a great book. Lots of good prep exercises and skills for running, and stretches after wards. Might have some help for your knee, or at least some drills for you to do while you wait for it to heal.

Maybe? Anyway I found a pdf online and it is super intense. Definitely going to have to dig through some of this stuff, its been 5 months and this isn't looking like a wait and heal injury. Thanks for the suggestion!

Legs feeling better today. Found some crazy nonsense online about using a plunger to pull the IT band away from the leg and then working on it. So I tried that, and can walk without and shooting pain, so thats something. Got a hot date an awesome PT tomorrow to look more into it. But hey, remember that deadlift goal?

CHECK.

Pulled it easy this morning and feel pretty great. Havent taken form videos like, at all this year, and since using the chest down cue for front squats, its carried over to deadlifts. So I guess my replacement goal is

LIFTING 315 WITH AN UNROUNDED UPPER BACK. OH YEAH.

This whole bulking thing is pretty fun.

Glad that you're feeling good enough to pull three wheels. Well done.

I'm going to offer the unsolicited advice to not hyperextend your hips at the top of your pull. My lumber disc says so.

Definitely. While it looks like I'm leaning back a bit, I know the feeling when I finish it with my low back, this was actually me pushing my chest up to where it should have been when I started the pull. If my spine falls out tomorrow, the internet will be the first to know!

Well well well! Been about a week on the challenge, and I dare say I've made some progress! I've knocked out my deadlift (and my spine feels fine!), fasted til noon every day (even today, I watched coworkers eat pizza while I sipped black coffee like a weirdo), and have been making some steady book reading. My PT visit went really well and I've already completed a session of run/walking with minimal pain afterwards....I just might be able to run again some day.

While this week started off as the worst week of 2017, what with me forgetting my work password, then my car breaking down on tuesday....things are picking up. I talked to my boss today! We had an all-hands pizza party extravaganza, and I broached the topic of me working remote once my contract ended. He was very positive and amenable to the idea and agrees we should revisit it closer to my end date. I'd call that a success!

I headed home today riding the high (and enjoying the sunshine) and after some PT work for my shoulders I decided to try out some towel pullups.......nailed it!

I couldnt even hold onto these suckers a few weeks ago.

And yes, that is a goodnight sloth shirt.

congrats on the towel pull ups!

Thanks friend! Its been hit or miss, like, if I just go and try it at the end of the day I usually cant hang on, but when I get home early afternoon I can usually consistently do a few. Things are certainly happening!

This weeks been really good to me. Today I did a ridiculous rowing squatting challenge that I last attempted right after christmas:

Managed to shave off 7 minutes from last time, and get all sweaty and gross. Did a 2m run/3m walk session on my way home, and stopped by the transmission place: my car might not be totalled! Guy says its probably electrical, which is a huge relief. Finished up futuristic violence and fancy suits, and it was amazing.

Posting this here just for the food porn. Hit the gym twice before finally eating this monstrous katsu abomination yesterday. Fasting has certainly gotten easier, I had no trouble not eating til 2 and waiting for this. Had to walk a few miles to get it, and it messed my knee up, but it was certainly fun to eat:

Sunday checkin! Did another run/walk this morning after shopping and mealprepping for the week. Up to 2:30 run/2:30 walk. Its definitely a controlled stress, as at the end of the running my leg hurts a bit, but after the brief rest I feel amazing and want to run forever. Had a great lazy day after accomplishing what I wanted for the week in my 3d scene, next week is going to be a ton of texture work for the final home stretch to make it look awesome. Cycled my Grisham book into my bus reading cycle and now im a little over halfway through it. Things are very positive right now, and february is coming to a close!

Great deadlifts this morning, working up to 285x3 with no belt! Its been a really boring day at work since mturk crashed and I can't pass the time with that. Excited to eat my lunch soon: I literally just made mirepoux, cooked a box of cornbread stuffing, then added a pound of ground chicken and 100 grams of spinach. Its gonna be carbtastic.

Congrats on the deadlift.

Apparently, a lot of stuff linked to Amazon is down. Their programmers are not having a boring day.

Right? Fun story, my fiance just started at amazon, and it was her second day today. Chaos in seattle and everyone was broken, just fantastic.

Leg was feeling acceptable so I ran, on a mostly full stomach, from the transit center to my friends place to do ring stuff. 3 min run/2 min walk. In converse. My feet and stomach hurt, but I felt good afterward. Also, 5k row this morning, no straps on my feet for form. 21:16. Not my best time, but felt good and I feel like I deserved to be in sitting desk mode today for sure.

Next weeks the last week eh?

My 3d scenes getting close, one day of texturing and im already burned out and sick of it, but I know I have to get it done, for sunk costs sake. Both my books are done, and I've already started two more than I got from a local lending library, hehe. Going to do another run/walk on my way home from work today!

So I'm sick. Hasn't stopped the progress though. This sunday I went out for a run: 10 minutes of running, 5 minutes walking, 5 minutes running! And my legs still work today! Texturing is really coming along on my 3d scene and I'm excited to show it off :3

Well today was the last deadlift day in the timespan of this challenge. I was sick, but I did 290x1 beltless, with super awesome form. You'll just have to trust me on this one. It was really slow, on the account of me being sick and gross, so I only had the energy for one rep. My form has really gotten better and I have definitely gotten stronger these past few weeks. Meanwhile, I'm glad I can breathe through my nose today.
