Owlet Does Stuff

Recommended Posts

Oooook I'm not totally sure what I want to achieve this time around... balance maybe? It's been a crazy few months and this month is looking to be equally demanding. I need to produce some paintings for a group exhibition in early March, my job is finishing soon (although I won't be surprised if they extend my contract again) I have new responsibilities as a leader within my Buddhist group, and I'm sure there's other stuff I'm forgetting. Oh yeah, I just moved house and now I live too far away from work to come home at lunch and do workouts so I'll need to figure out when to fit those in. So...

One off goals:

  • set up an area to paint. I don't have a studio anymore :( so I need to set up a nice space somewhere in the house asap to encourage me to get stuck into painting for the exhibition.
  • decide on some sort of timetable so I know when I'm going to do workouts (mainly physio exercises still) and painting and chanting.

Fitness:

  • get back into lunchtime walks. Since I won't have workouts taking up lunchtime, I'm free to go for walks. Bonus!
  • physio exercises 2-3 x per week, work on trigger points as often if not more
  • stretching. I've noticed I'm getting reeeally tight and sore recently from too much sitting down. Need to get in the habit of stretching now and then. This super vague oops.

Painting:

  • ugh I hate setting painting goals, it takes all the joy out of it. So I will paint as often as I feel able/willing too. This show won't be my best because I've been way too busy/distracted, but it might still be ok. I'm not tooo worried.

Diet:

  • Carry on with no bread or pasta and limited carbs in general

I think I'll just leave it at that for now tbh. I'll still be chanting every day but that's not really something I need to make a special goal of anymore. I want/need to tackle sleep at some stage but I think I've got enough on my plate right now without stressing over what time I get to bed as well.

and now, just because that all felt a bit boring:

Lots of work, wow! Make sure you take your rest time.

Ooooh, that is sad. How are you going to choose your new painting area?

Following! Natch. You have a lot on your plate but at least from the outside you definitely seem more at peace with it than in the previous challenge, which I think is a great sign. I mean, you called it 'boring' but to me it looks like you're crisis-free and taking a practical, sensible, measured approach to your goals. Things right now are comparatively stable and manageable, and I humbly suggest that you are taking an unnecessarily critical view of yourself.

I think that you're in a transition time in various areas of life (moving house, changing job, new workspace for art, etc.) and that's a great opportunity to introduce new routines to help you feel better and work toward goals. Take the opportunity to create your new rhythm the way you want it to be!

Haha, more like cat SPLAT :D

Yeah it's a bummer. Last night I set up my desk in the lounge but I'm sceptical as to how well that will work - there's enough space (I think) and I can sort out lighting, but it's also right next to the TV and kitchen so it won't be peaceful. I also don't like working where other people can see what I'm doing. That said, I just need to pump out a few paintings asap, and then I can take the time to find a better solution. Plus, if I end up not working for a while I will have the house to myself all day during the week, so then it won't matter where I work so much.

Yeah way more at peace thanks :) This is all stuff I can more or less manage. Up till this point there have been a lot of 'unknowns' which was stressing me out, whereas now it's more a case of just doing the work. I'm sure I'll have my moments though haha so I'll try to factor in some down time. Big bonus of the new house (aside from the bloody amazing views and location) is it has a bath tub! I can have relaxing baths! OMG.

Haha I think I said it was boring more because it wasn't full of gifs and images and themed excitement, than because I thought my goals were boring. Ok maybe that a little bit, but I'm ok with boring goals. This challenge is just about surviving and adapting. Like you said, it's a period of transition :)

So, don't want to make you guys feel tooo jealous, but this is the view from my new house:

You can see why I like it, right? It's no coincidence that, for the first time in my life, I was in a good mood all weekend while we moved. Despite the fact that it took all weekend (plus many evenings and lunchtimes last week) and involved >80 steps at one house and >60 at the other and my legs are so stiff now haha. But seriously, the first load I dropped off on saturday, I took a moment to take this photo and there were dolphins in the bay! This place is ridiculous, even by my standards! My flatmate said he had an existential crisis looking out at that view haha. I just feel overwhelmingly at peace looking out at all that sea and sky.

Haha it's too bad I'm not there right now or I would take a photo - it's howling a gale and raining and so dark it could almost be nighttime! I don't mind though, I love storms.

Yesterday (day 1) was good. I had lunch with a couple of work colleagues which was nice (leftover thai) and work itself was tolerable. chanted when I got home and stretched a bit. Tried out a new recipe and liked it enough to add it to my regular rotation. Did some more unpacking and organising. Still not convinced about my art corner but not sure what to do. There's almost room in my bedroom but I don't want to stink out my room with fumes :/ I'll try it out before I despair.

Didn't sleep well though ugh. Was overtired so had a headache which kept me awake and by the time I'd taken painkillers and felt less sore I was even more tired and getting emotional so then was even less able to sleep. Still feeling emotional today and the weather is abysmal so not sure I'll get to walk at lunch. Wait and see I guess.

NZ summers...

I'm sorry to hear you had a rough day, but you did A LOT on your first day. That's a good start!

This one is particularly bad :/ although most other parts of the country have been a lot drier and hotter. There are bush fires even (not so great).

Thanks, I guess I did :) Hard to appreciate just now because I am very tired and feeling sorry for myself, so I'll take your word for it.

Hating on Valentines day. A lot. I made a really good coffee this morning though, so there's that.

Sorry Valentine's Day is shitty. :( I wish I had more to say but there's not much that's helpful, I don't think.

Coming over for coffee? Or sub-standard summer? lol.

Yeah... I don't think I've ever had a nice Valentines, I'm generally alone. Doesn't help when friends post obnoxiously sappy stuff. Oh well, that's life eh.

Can't see anything? I am intrigued now, insensitive or not haha

If it were NTB I'd die laughing because it's definitely from one of those meme-posting pages and it would be bizarre to see someone I knew. I highly doubt it though.

On closer inspection, I see NTB is actually a tabby/white cat, so this must be some other cat. Explains why it seems to be enjoying the beer. ;)

Fuck me I thought you meant the girl. This is why I should have gone to bed an hour ago. Hurr durr.

Theyre actually drinking a coke that says "share a coke with your soulmate." Oh. The beer thing makes sense now.

Haha well I feel like she could also be the girl, so it's a win win really.

The human also does kind of look like me! And obviously, my ideal Valentine's day IS a date with a cat.

I thought so. Hence my confusion and the joke going over my head. Glad I'm not crazy lol
