Evening NF World,

I needed to vent a little, and for some reason I felt this was the place to do it. I have been busting my ass at the gym for the past 3 weeks.... increasing my time spent there, increasing my weight lifted, trying out new machines, increasing reps, and I've even lost 7 pounds. For those things, I was proud. Until some jerk had the nerve to confront me after my workout tonight and state, "Done working out already"? Um, excuse me sir, do I know you? Do you know how many times a week I'm in that gym? Do you realize what I'm putting my body through? Sure, you see an overweight chick who should probably be spending hours running on the treadmill or whatever. But what is really there is a mother of 3, full time student, and chronic pain sufferer giving it all she's got. Your approval is not needed. Therefore, your comments are unnecessary and downright ignorant. What the hell makes people give their two cents? I'm pretty sure I'm not wearing a sign that says "Please tell me your opinions of me" so who the f*ck does he think he is? UGH!!

I needed to get that out!

Thanks,

FitChick_Maybe

Aw, sorry that happened. But you know stupid people are gonna say stupid stuff. You know the truth and should be proud of how hard you've worked.

Some people just need a slap in the face imo.

I get a similar thing a lot, but the opposite end of the spectrum, I lost a lot of weight due to stress, chronic pain and 2 physical jobs and was rather underweight (my wife is in the same boat as me and gets the same comments) it was mainly family and friends but sometimes complete strangers saying "is that all your eating?" , "you look like you could use a cheeseburger or 7" etc etc. Even my very overweight co-workers, takes a lot of restraint not to turn around and tell them they should just have a salad next time because I'm tired of explaining about my insanely fast metabolism and reasons why I lost weight, but I try to live to the mantra of "don't be a dick"

I'm sorry that you had such a directed insult, but f*** him.  Like you said: he has no idea who you are or what you are going through.

I am so impressed by what you've accomplished already.  You are a bada** Fitchick. (F*** the _Maybe).

I have never consider things from that end of the spectrum. I'm sorry that happens to you.

Ugh!  Some people need a slap.  In the face.  With a brick.  House.

There are people out there who think that the length of time they spend in the gym is some kind of badge of honour, even though they've made fuck-all progress and spent most of it doing curls.  In the squat rack.  Though I quite like @pony boy's suggestion too, lol!

I've been in the position where my max-effort was anybody else's no-effort, with no obvious outward signs to say why.  It's hard enough already just imagining that other people are looking at you and judging you, let alone having someone come out and say it to your face!  But you don't need anyone else's approval, you are doing more to improve yourself right now than any of the people in there who are just plodding along, doing the same thing week in, week out, never pushing themselves past their comfort zone.

Go you!  You got this.

Think of it this way

Maybe he wanted to meet you. He was quickly trying to think of something to say. If so he probability spent the rest of the day kicking himself thinking darn why did I say that.....I should have said this or could have done that. Something like that?

That's hilarious! Now that I think about it, you're probably right. :)
