Bit of thinking out loud here...

I have seriously been neglecting NF and for that I am sorry :( We're in the two weeks leading up to our opening day and that makes life a bit crazy.

Most free time for the next week and a half (which will not be much, more on that below) will be spent organizing the rest of the stuff that was put in closets until I had 'time' to deal with it  got to put the shelves together to do that today.

I've made a menu that should get me through most of the season, it's easy stuff and casseroles that I can put together and portion on off days. I've also done a master grocery list so I know what I need to order every week...say what you will about Walmart, I'm not a fan of them either, but their online ordering and pickup has saved me this last year.

I have the workout room ready for when I can use it (finally) I'd like to find some strength/body-weight workouts that I can follow along with using my Roku. I have the NF yoga videos on my laptop that I can hook up to the TV in the workout room as well...which reminds me I need to hook up the HDMI cable to make it easier to do that.

April looks like...

2nd - Meet the team booster dinner

3rd - Pride planning meeting

7th - Season ticket pickup party/Staff party

9th - Home-stand meeting (during work day)

11th - 15th - Opening Homestand

21st - Never Quit 5k

24th - My Niece arrives! :D

26th - 30th - Home-stand

Time to get off the couch and get to working on some of this!

Wow, you've put together menus for a whole season!   I struggle to think of things to cook each week. I am awed by your planning skills.

I support you in your quest to deal with stuff in closets. I got Dumbledore to agree to spend half an hour this weekend looking through bags and boxes we have stashed in the mud room. I suspect some are recycling from months ago when the bin was too full to hold everything. I hope there are also books we already sorted and decided to get rid of. Every box dealt with helps.

I'm still alive, realized how long it's been since I've been on here and have several updates, the long one will have to wait a bit though

For those who have been around a while, my liver enzymes are back to normal, still no idea why they were so high

My neck has progressed to the point I have 'positional vertigo' now, my initial appointment with the neurologist is Wednesday.

20 out of 70 games done! :D this season seems a bit easier than last year...still had to get back in the swing of things though :)

Only on game days...the rest of the time it's still a struggle! The key is not to mind eating the same thing all the time, I batch cook 2 or 3 items and we have those on alternating days...

I've determined if my wife doesn't like it then she is free to take over cooking, so far no offers

If it isn't one thing, it's another. Good that your liver is behaving. That was a concern. At least there is a chance of doing PT to make your neck better. I hope the neurologist can help.

LOL. Yep, I have the same arrangement with my family. Except they seem to just buy sandwich fixings when they don't like what I cook. I made a pan of enchiladas that no one else has touched.

I've tried for 8 years (since the wreck) the problem is nerve damage at c5-6...I told them when I could no longer live with it then I would look at other options ie: surgery. Constant dizziness and increased numbness in not only my right, but now my left arm has got me to that point :(

She eats what I cook, no complaints there! She would exist on McD's if I didn't cook though

So yea, I randomly remembered there's a challenge going on.... :)

While I could do better about posting on my own thread, I've been doing fairly well about checking in on others every week...not too bad since we had a 10 game homestand so no days off for 14 in a row, all I wanted to do was sleep after that!

Starting Thursday we have 6 games, 4 day break then 9 games...then it's smooth sailing for the next 20 (only 5 at a time with at least 5 days in between) I can do this!!!

So it took my wife 1/2 way through the season but she got tired of me prepping everything...honestly I think it's guilt but she hasn't figured out how to get over it yet. Not a thing I can help her with but I'm trying to be supportive. So I've decided to try butcher box subscriptions to change things a bit (and it's delivered to my door, which saves trips to the store!) I'll still be able to do my meal prep and she can cook herself whatever she wants. There's also free bacon for life when you receive a box so if anyone else is interested in it as well.

http://fbuy.me/jl3I9

Some other random stuff...I purchased the Piyo DVD's to try on days that I don't have games, I like the sound of the non impact, no jumping, combining yoga with Pilates...I have issues with jumping due to joint issues and I'm hopeful this won't aggravate my neck.

OH yes, the neck, so the neurologist does NOT recommend surgery at this time! He wants to try injections and traction therapy , possibly progressing to what they call "nerve burning". The point he made is once we start with surgery there is no going back, and with my age it is likely the surrounding vertebrae would deteriorate and also need surgery. Bad part, I went to the pain management Dr. they set up an appointment...when I went to start the injections they were closed, and didn't notify me (which the office said they should have...ummm, ya think??)

More random stuff,  has anyone read the book "the plant paradox"? I've been reading it due to my issues with inflammation and RA and a lot of it makes sense, just wondered if anyone had any luck with it (no it's not about vegan/vegetarian philosophy)

I have not read that book, but I just purchased it online.  Will start reading it this week.

I'm not one to take someones word for it just because they're a Doctor...heck, look at Dr Oz. but i'm finding that none of what I've read so far doesn't make sense, and I like that he explains why this stuff is causing inflammation and giving people issues instead of just telling you "don't eat this"

^^^^^^^^^^This

My doctor had no helpful advice for my knee problems, even though she is an osteopath. The knee specialist had no options other than surgery. Which is why I am going back to physical therapy, where I might actually get some results.

I will be curious to hear what you learn about inflammation in your neck. I suspect that some of my problems are caused by inflammation, but I have no clue what the trigger is.

I have had good results with steroid shots in my toe joints. It hurts to have the shot, but then starts feeling better after a couple days and stays better for months. Okay as a second-to-last choice before surgery.

Pictures of Tarp will be forthcoming when I can get to my computer...he's so damn cute!!! I'm certain he was dumped off because even the vet said he's too healthy to be feral. He's settling in nicely and gets along well with the other animals

Game 1 of 6 starts today...I swear I'm just going to start live posting one of these because y'all would not believe the stuff that goes on....

Very interesting article about working in minor league baseball https://greatlakesloons.mlblogs.com/working-in-minor-league-baseball-is-not-for-everyone-b7711e9333f3

Injections scheduled for July 31st now...would have been nice to know my Dr was going on vacation for 2 months before we scheduled the last procedure!

I'm so glad you were able to take in Tarp. You are right, he is amazingly cute. I wonder if he escaped from a young owner rather than being dumped. I can't imagine dumping a kitten like that.

Thanks for sharing the article. I live a block away from our minor league ball park. I can hear the games all summer. I'll bet it is pretty much the same here.

Tarp, cause he's adorable...

15 games left! The next home stand starts August 8th...so nice break in there, and the CFO will be in town for the next one, which keeps my life interesting if nothing else

Finished reading "The Plant Paradox" (except for the recipes in the back which I will reference as needed) which was interesting. Like most 'diet books' it states a great case for why you should eat this way, very similar to Paleo in some aspects, Keto in others. The wife and I were discussing it and she made the point that you probably would lose weight just due to it being plant based, it's difficult to overeat leafy, green, vegetables that are mostly in the cabbage family...she's not wrong :D. It challenges you to eat only 4 oz of meat or protein a day, and avoid fruit and vegetables containing lectins (gluten being one of them) seasonal and unripe fruit being exceptions, some lectin containing vegetables can be prepared safely (think nightshades) pressure cooking is your friend...in a nutshell I'm willing to try it and see if it helps with the inflammation due to RA that continues to flare up, certainly can't hurt.

The pain management doctor (mentioned above) is in trouble with the feds for insurance fraud so I asked for a referral to someone else so that appointment is now on the 6th.

Workouts...what workouts? Sleep has been more of a priority lately...

To file under "Not shocked at all" my wife, who stated she wanted to take over some meal prep duties, cannot seem to figure out how to do this when I leave it to her....she was on vacation all last week with a house full of food and guess who she asked what was for dinner (hint, was the person who had a home stand last week and didn't get home till after midnight!) Told her I wasn't going to do that again since it's entirely too stressful to try and figure out what's for her breakfast, lunch, and dinner when i'm at work so if she doesn't like what's there she can deal with it...I should have known better and stuck with what was working for me.

And on that note, meal prep time (yes, I was given a three day weekend, how did you guess? :D )

So the end of this challenge will also mark the end of MiLB season...while there will still be wrap up items to take care of at work it means life will return to whatever normal passes for in my life...15 games, just three home stands left...I can say I will miss it greatly! I much prefer to be busy like that, although getting home at a somewhat normal time will be nice.

On the plant paradox front, I've lost 10 lbs and my inflammation is almost non-existent, neither of which is a bad thing!

I still haven't found time to fit in workouts...not that I haven't had time, I just haven't done it, not really stressing it even though I'd like to make this more of a priority. Will be working on that this challenge.

Next challenge will probably be a bit more active, this one's going to just be about wrapping up the summer :)

Yay for reducing inflammation and losing weight!  Boo for your wife saying she would cook and then weasling out of it. That happens at my house a lot too.

It sounds like you have had plenty to keep you moving during the busy season at work. You can add some variety as things calm down.

Cause I cannot resist black kitties! This is Mystic :D

I really need to visit here more than once a week...I have all good intentions but lack the follow through, not sure where all my hours in the day go!

Next to last homestand of the season starts tomorrow...interns have all returned to school, good thing this is an easy one with a Sunday - Thursday!

Lost three more lbs :triumphant: nice to see the scale heading in the right direction for a change!

It's frustrating for certain, is also the least of our issues, which is sad :( There's a reason I don't mind working crazy hours....

off to play catch up!

I can count on one hand the number of games left, cause doubles count as one :D

Thursday (double), Friday, Saturday (double), and Monday

Last couple of weeks have been rough, not only on me, even my boss has remarked on how tired he is and what a rough season it's been. I've discovered it takes longer when your team sucks because it takes longer to get the outs needed for innings to progress.

For those aware that I live in Jacksonville FL and do not have me on facebook, yes I'm fine, heartbroken over what's going on in my city this weekend though :(

Oh and the CFO will be in town next week, yay
