UnquietBones is doing One Assassin-y Thing a Day!

Recommended Posts

Last challenge got my head and my heart back on track, so now it's time to get the rest of me engaged again! :)

This challenge is a modified version of previous AIBARN'ing (Am I Being Assassin-y Right Now?) attempts-- this time I will attempt to do at least one Assassin-y thing a day. In a perfect world I'll end up doing several things a day, but I'm keeping it low key for now. Next challenge it should be warm out all the time and I can ramp things up (instead of every third day being 80 and the others being 40... DARN YOU VIRGINIA WEATHER. *shakes fist at sky*)

What will my Assassin-y things be?

...I have no idea.

But it will be fun to find out! ;)

Day 1 (3/19) - Self-care (Migraine, boo!)

Day 2 (3/20) - Range of motion testing (figuring out what I can do with my arm)

Day 3 (3/21) - Move it, Move it!

Day 4 (3/22) - FAIL

Day 5 (3/23) - Building a Dog-proof Fence

Day 6 (3/24) - I don't remember? (Doh!)

Day 7 (3/25) - Art! (and migraines)

Day 8 (3/26) - Lumbering with Lumber!

Day 9 (3/27) - Dog Walks! (And More Lumbering with Lumber)

Day 10 (3/28) - Walk, walk, walk (aka MANY CHORES, MOAR DOTS!)

Day 11 (3/29) - Lots of research, Lots of art

Day 12 (3/30) - Pollen, the sickening! (And art)

Day 13 (3/31) - Weird work hours and Housework

Day 14 (4/1) - Hazelnuts, the Fence-ing-ing!

Day 15 (4/2) - Paint, paint, paint (at odd angles) the fish gazebo

Day 16 (4/3) - Almost done with the Lumbering!

Day 17 (4/4) - POWER TOOLS! (Also: lots of steps on steps)

Day 18 (4/5) - Getting sick

Day 19 (4/6) - Sick

Day 20 (4/7) - Sick (and NaNo!) ((and a little bit of art))

Day 21 (4/8) - Dad visit!

Day 22 (4/9) - Dad visit!

Day 23 (4/10) - Nightmares on Elm Street

Day 24 (4/11) - ??? (I forget)

Day 25 (4/12) - Crazy Long Workday

Day 26 (4/13) - ??? (I forget)

Day 27 (4/14) - Respawn, reorg, and revive! :D

Day 28 (4/15) - And lo, the mighty have fallen! (aka tripped and hurt themselves.) ((Doh!))

Seriously though, I love this idea and am very tempted to steal it ;)

And I am sure you do have some things in mind already. What kind of stuff are you looking for? Handstands? Cart wheels? Strength training? Food assassination? Dancing secretly in dark alleyways... :D

Suggestions?? Oooo... YES! :D I was honestly thinking of just stalking everyone else's challenges and trying random things, I am 100% willing to embrace failing, so ALL THE THINGS! I really need to find a fitness thing that I can go get out of the house and be social-ish about, but all the cool weapons-work and gymnastics and parkour etc. is all in Northern VA. :( I really should see if there are any other NF folks in Southern VA (or nearby-ish) that would like to go hiking or something. *ponders*

We should totally have a group I DARE YOU challenge at some point!

Looking forward to swing what 'counts' as assassin-y for this challenge :-D  always like getting new ideas for ways to make my day more assassin-esque!

BEING BATMAN. *solemn nod*

...Ooookay, so no real crime fighting, but I am going to be trying a little bit of everything! :D I really want to try a bunch of things out and see what's fun, so anything physical that doesn't require equipment is up for grabs! (Watching the naginata classes at Katsucon really made me miss my historical fencing days so I may try and start up a whiffle bat fencing league! ;))

I just got back from my first ever bouldering session. My arms are noodles, and I definitely damaged my shoulder when my foot slipped, but it made me feel like Ezio Auditore (he may have fallen a lot when I played as him :P) so I can recommend that if you have anything nearby.

Ooo assassin-y! My favorite assassin-y thing is quietly walking behind someone and scaring the crap out of them (loved ones and co-workers, I would never do that to a stranger, I try to be less stealthy around them). Granted this just happens without me trying...

And this weather... I really want to go outside and start doing things, but here I am hiding under a blanket waiting for the first (and probably only) snow storm this winter. Plus it's hard to plan things when you get all the seasons in one week.

My 2 cents on assassin-y stuff:

Jump on all the things! One thing I've noticed in parkour is that the idea of getting off the ground is weird when you're an adult. What if I fall? I'm not used to catching myself from a different height? I might miss/stumble/trip/slide/lose my balance etc! Being at a different height changes your outlook (literally and figuratively) and gets you out of the habit of just walking around obstacles. Going for a walk? Balance on the curb. Walking through a parking area? Jump (1 foot or 2 feet at a time) onto the concrete parking stops. It doesn't have to be crazy, just get used to the idea of not being 2-feet-on-the-ground, and see what happens.

I look away from the forums for a second (ish) and y'all come up with a zillion good ideas!

I cannot wait for the weather to get better in Virginia, there are a bazillion things to do outside (am I collecting bookmarks, yes I am! ;)) and I am therefore declaring this THE SPRING/SUMMER OF ASSASSIN'ing!

...but not when it's 40 outside and crazy windy. *watches trees with some alarm*

I will climb things! I will balance on things! I will jump from/to/on things! I will throw things! (I may even catch things) I will try out yoga! I will sprint! I will walk! I will teach my dog awesome ninja tricks! (She will adore this idea, she is a very ninja sidekick dog) I will try and find friends to whiffle ball battle with! I will push things! I will pull things! I will dance battle with someone! (Even if it is my dog) I will NOT drive like Batman because I like being a law-abiding assassin. *nodnod* I will check out the free archery range that one of the parks has!

I sort of maybe kinda want to check out the nine gazillion martial arts places around here (because lo, Batman) but I really liked working with weapons. I know there are SCAdians around here somewhere, but I am more into the battling and less into the reenacting, so I'm not sure we'd mesh well. :(

I've also missed horseback riding, but I was never in it for the shows... I'm more of a gymnika sort of soul and they never did that in NoVA when I was growing up. I wonder if anyone does that down here... *googles* (Batman had a horse now and then ya'know.)

...and now I have too many good ideas. Whoops.

I just checked out http://darebee.com/daily-dares.html... and y'all are totally right this looks like SO MUCH FUN! :D I don't think I can do many of these, but I've never tried!! So this will be an awesome way to find something bodyweight-y to do! ^_^

I am home from work today because one of the sump pumps died (no damage because the alarm woke us up, we just used a small pump to move the water out of it into the one that works) so I have to wait for the repair guy to come by. Which means it's an excellent time to finish cleaning so I have room to Assassin when the challenge starts up! (I just found my old hand weights and good grief 5 pounds is much heavier than I remember).

Also, I'm now in contact with two rescue organizations (one for anything and one for labs) so there's a good chance the fluffeh puppeh will be getting a ninja'ing partner soon! Which means LOTS OF DOG WALKS! :D (Well, there would have been lots of walks anyways, but walks are great way to bond with a new dog).

https://www.virginia.org/hiking/ - Lots of trails! With uphills and downhills and things to balance on and jump onto/over! :D

There are various after-work fitness programs offered by work (yoga, zumba, bootcamp fitness) that aren't crazy expensive... so I may play in one of those this year. *ponders*

Now I just have to convince my friends to come play outdoors or expand my pack (somehow) so I have Assassin-y outdoor cohorts! ^_^

Assassin-y Thing : Sleeping and Reading Books

I had a migraine, which precludes the acrobatic assassin-y things, so I did the smart move of staying in bed and sleeping or reading (paper!) books. It was quite frustrating, but as I had to be at work at 5am this morning, it was the grown-up-y thing to do. Less Batman-y me might have tried to power through and do something unwise... but I prevailed!

And I have a new mascot that sits next to the alarm clock (and humidifier)... BEHOLD!

BATMAN.jpg

Seriously, how could I not buy him? HE IS THE NIGHT!
