The Legend of RhiaWolfe: Interlude

RhiaWolfe

Recommended Posts

I'm back everyone!!!

So, this post is not going to be as theme heavy. I really just need to get back on track. Here are my goals for this month:

Level Up Cooking: I will cook my meals all week and limit my eating out to 2 times per week. I made some stew last night that should last all week and is rather tasty!

Level Up Fitness: I will go to the gym 4 times a week. I haven't slacked off too bad, but need to do better. I usually only make it 2-3 times a week.

Level Up Snacking: I will choose healthy snacks and limit sugar intake.

This is all I'm going to do for this month. Since December I've been derailed so many times it's not even funny. I need to stop making up excuses and get back to the healthy living. I have had a lot of stress in my life including work and school. It has made it difficult to concentrate on health.

Let's see how this goes!

Week 0:

Sunday, 3/12/2017

So, yesterday I had a gaming session. I'm introducing some friends into playing Pathfinder tabletop roleplaying game. We got together and made character sheets, and pizza was ordered. Not a great start, I know... but hopefully I can do ok for the rest of the week. I DID go to the gym and cooked for the week.

Level Up Cooking:

Part 1: Put fixings for a beef stew in the slow cooker. Smells really good! Can't wait to have some.

Part 2: I ate out (pizza) for game night. 1/2 Pending...

Level Up Fitness: Went to the gym and did leg day. 1 down and 4 to go! 1/4 Success!

Level Up Snacking: Did not do a good job yesterday. I ended up eating candy. M&Ms at game night and sour gummy worms. I'll get better though! 0/7 Pending...

Not a great start, but I'm just beginning. As long as I see improvement, I'm going in the right direction!

Gummy candy... It's my biggest weakness!

Stew sounds like a lovely way to get back on the healthy food train though :)

Those Trolli Brite Sour Gummy Worms are my worst enemy. They are sooooooo addicting and I love them so much. I have to try to keep from eating those. I will start craving them.

Made a big pot of stew. That way I'll feel bad if I don't eat it because I'll be wasting a lot of food. Might freeze some of it though if I can't make it through the pot. My husband said he would help me, but he hasn't had any yet... hrm...

I'm going to recommend the same thing I do for people quitting soda or coffee: to break a habit, you need to replace it with a different habit.  To that end, I recommend carrying "healthy snacks" with you everywhere.  Take 10 minutes a week and cut up veg and break it out into baggies or single-serving sizes.  The harder it is to "make" a healthy snack when you're hungry, the less likely you are to do it.

I've already kicked the habit of soda. I haven't had a soda since September. I can't tell you how proud I am of myself for that! That was my biggest vice.

The candy thing is really only recently. I'm not sure why. I'm definitely trying to keep healthy snacks around more. For example, at work I have 100 cal popcorn, mixed nuts, baby carrots, and I bring fruit to work every day.

The past few weeks I"ve been super stressed though and instead bought candy. Bad Rhia... I'm going to try and stop buying candy. If it's not available then I won't be able to eat it! That's the approach I think I'll take. If it's not there, I'll choose something healthier on hand!

Thanks for the advice. I don't think I"m going to worry so much about how much healthy food I eat and rather concentrate on just eating the healthier food until I break the candy habit. Then I'll go back to counting calories.

Week 0:

Monday, 3/13/2017

Yesterday went pretty well!

Level Up Cooking: Yesterday for breakfast I had an egg muffin thing that I cooked. I put diced bell peppers, mushrooms, bacon pieces, and just a little bit of cheese in a muffin pan, added 1 egg scrambled, and baked it. They are very yummy. I made enough for the whole week for my breakfast! I also had some of the stew I cooked. It turned out really yummy!

Breakfast: 1 egg muffin thing & strawberries

Snack: banana

Lunch: Stew! So tasty!

Snack: peanut butter crackers

Snack: apple

Dinner: frozen fish fillets w/ corn

Snack: oil-popped popcorn with salt

Overall, I think I did awesome! Didn't eat out either. Woot! 1/2 Success!

Level Up Fitness: Didn't go to the gym, but I have my gym days scheduled for Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, so I"m still on track! 1/4 Success!

Level Up Snacking: Did awesome! No candy and I stuck to healthier snacks! Fruit, nuts, crackers that aren't too high in calories, etc. Monday was a success!!!  1/7 Success!

I am definitely picking it up! Yesterday went well. Today I plan to go to the gym.

Other Points I'm Proud Of:

-Tomorrow my dad wants to get together for dinner. Instead of going out to eat, I asked if he would be interested in just coming over to my house and helping me eat my stew. lol. We'll see what he decides. It's an opportunity to eat out, but I made the healthier choice to suggest an alternative. That's something that's hard for me to do. I did awesome and am excited about it!

- I worked 2 hours on homework yesterday. It's something I've been having trouble keeping to a regular schedule and getting things done early. I hate procrastinating and I've been doing it too much lately. I felt very accomplished.

- I did a little bit of cleaning and organizing at home. Not a lot, but more than I usually do. Baby steps!

Overall I even got in some video gaming time! It was an awesome day yesterday. Hopefully I can keep up this momentum!

Momentum FTW! Good for you for suggesting a healthy dinner alternative - it's so easy to just go with the flow when other people are involved, but most people don't really mind accommodations I find.

Well done! I used to have these all the time for breakfast. They're great because you can mix them up a lot from week to week. Some breakfast sausage adds a bit of extra protein (though they're already pretty great).

And following along! Sounds like some good solid goals. Sometimes to get back on track I think it's great to focus on just a couple things. So many of us give in to RangerBrain and end up with like 20 goals (like me!)!

Sounds like you are either 1) looking for comfort food or 2) looking for energy.  In either case, you might look at adding more fat to your diet, and making sure you have fruit on hand.  I have a tough time with candy - love it way too much - but those have helped.

Oh yeah!  And really dark (like 90%) chocolate.  You can't eat much of it in a go because it's so rich, but a little goes a long way.

I think a lot of it is the comfort food and the habit. When I'm stressed I tend to look for something good to eat. I also tend to crave it hard core some days.

Today I'm craving a snack like cheetos. I'm not sure how to fix that one. Trying to resist... lol!

I think I've just been too used to eating a certain amount of sugar and my body doesn't like me trying to change that so I'm still craving what I was eating. I think with time it'll get better. I just have to be strong and resist the cravings!

I definitely have that problem of setting too many goals at a time and getting overwhelmed. I'm going to see how this goes.

As far as mixing up the egg thing, do you have some suggestions? What I typically put in them are green bell peppers, mushrooms, bacon pieces, and a little bit of cheese.

Thinking about changing it up to tomatoes, maybe sausage if I can figure that out (still learning how to cook the things), and different cheese maybe...

I love crumbles sausage in egg cups! Also know of some people that line the cups with slices of ham or some such. I usually go for something easy and precooked like these, and just crumble up a whole box to distribute into a dozen or so cups. I also like Broccoli/cheddar in mine :)

Week 0:

Tuesday, 3/14/2017

Another awesome day! Another win for me!

Level Up Cooking: I pretty much ate the same thing yesterday as I did the day before. The only changes is I had some 100 calorie popcorn at work and then for dinner I had a sandwich and some strawberries. Nothing really about epic cooking, but continuing to eat leftovers and not indulging in junk food!

No eating out either. I call this a win! 1/2 Success!

Level Up Fitness: Went to the gym and did my chest workout. My workout actually felt a little too easy at times and I had to bump up the weight! I also did 30 minutes on the treadmill. I think I really needed that. Afterwards I felt awesome! 1/4 Success!

Level Up Snacking: Again, no unhealthy junk food. I ate good food all day and felt awesome! I need to remember how awesome it makes me feel to stay on track physically.

So far the week is going great for my goals! I've kept everything where it needed to be. Last night after the gym, I ate dinner and played a little Skyrim. I'm going back and replaying the game because I want to get in the mood for medieval fantasy for the Pathfinder game I"m running. I've been reading and playing so much urban fantasy stuff that it's really hard for me to think about medieval fantasy stuff again.

Yesterday, overall, was an awesome day. The headphones my husband got me work great! Bluetooth SkullCandy! Love them.

Hmm.. might look into precooked stuff. I've been trying to stick to raw ingredients and making things from scratch because I know processed foods tend to be less healthy... but as long as I don't go overboard... should work out.

Never thought about broccoli or ham... hrm... may have to try! :)

Ham is delicious in baked eggs! It's one of my favorite ingredients for those. You can throw in greens like spinach too. And different kinds of onion. All sorts of things!
