I am three weeks out of my meet. I signed up so long ago (October) that I'm having a hard time realizing it's actually happening, but here it is -- getting closer. Something I've been thinking a lot about lately is what I want to accomplish on that day, and how important it is to me. My main goal signing up was really just to do a meet. Now I somehow got it in my head that I should reach certain numbers or weigh under a certain limit to get a minimum wilks of X. I'm reaching the end of my cut, and once I move on to maintenance it's likely I'll gain a few pounds back. PRs would be nice, and I'll definitely attempt at least one on deadlifts if everything else went well, but I'm not competing, not even against myself since this is my first meet. The cut has been going well. Training has been going well. I don't want to not enjoy the next three weeks because my weight fluctuates or I run out of training time. I just want to lift my heart out and impress my friends with how much pizza I can stuff my face with.

This is the best possible attitude.

Congrats on the deadlifts!

WEEK 4 / DAY 1 & 2

1. Meet prep: Both were rest days. I had my date on Sunday, we met for lunch in K-town and took a walk along the river... which got us in Lower Manhattan by dinner time, so we had crêpes! Dating is not RP friendly.

[NA] Film each lift once per week

[0/2] Cardio

[0/2] Do Your Damn Abs

[0/7] Becoming a Supple Leopard

[2/7] Log meals off (cut) plan

2. Keep my sanity: I got another puzzle! Just started it last night, I'm excited. I definitely wrote in my journal post-date. It was a good date (must have been, it lasted six hours). Now it's the awkward (imo) phase in between a first good date and actually planning a second where you're not sure if you'll ever see the other person again.

[1/7] Write in journal

3. Don't shut down: Still here!

Yay! Successful date! I hope there is a second one :)

If you were together long enough to have lunch and dinner-esque meal it sounds like a success to me.

Definitely sounds like second date material! Are you waiting on the other person for the next step or are you waiting to reach out to them?

I texted him, we're now making plans for a second date :)

One of my issues in previous relationships was that I always let people pick me rather than going after anyone I liked. If I ever did, whenever I felt as if I'd really put myself out there, the feedback I got (from the person and/or people around us) was that they couldn't tell I even liked that person, let alone was interested in dating them... So this is something I'm trying to work on!

WEEK 4 / DAY 3

1. Meet prep: Squats & bench, my left side is still pretty sore though, and food hasn't been on point -- no cheat meals, if anything I've been feeling off so skipping snacks and carbs.  I did my session and then went straight home -- no abs, cardio or mobility :(

[NA] Film each lift once per week

[0/2] Cardio

[0/2] Do Your Damn Abs

[0/7] Becoming a Supple Leopard

[3/7] Log meals off (cut) plan

2. Keep my sanity: I'm counting doing my puzzle all evening as a substitute to reading since the overarching goal is really to do something cerebral at home rather than just doing chores, or mindlessly browsing/Netflix-binging. I did do a lot of cleaning as well though, I've let a few things go (small pile of clothes here, couple of dirty dishes there) which builds up very quickly. I still have a bit to do but the place already felt much less cluttered. It makes room for the puzzle, too.

WORTH IT

PARTICIPATE IN THE PURSUIT (if you want to)

In prior years, I basically just went out with guys who asked, and let them convince me I liked them enough. It always resulted in a failed relationship where I was unhappy because I wasn't as into it as they were and things just fizzled out. (Not really what you're saying here, but a variation on dating complacency)

When I met Mr Ix, I took initiative for the first time basically ever (barring the one time in Jr High I slipped a shitty poem in a crush's locker, and then some cruel stuff happened, hey maybe that's why I have had such a hard time) and we went out together for 3 months, but he's super introverted too so it took that entire time for Feelings to come out and admit we were dating and such. That was my doing, too. I tried to talk about it at a restaurant we were at, failed utterly, and sent an email like a schmoe. It worked, though vOv I recommend face to face feelings but sometimes you just work with what you got

WEEK 4 / DAY 4

1. Meet prep: Deadlifted in the morning. I felt awful, and very nearly failed a rep. I was doing 4x3x235, which was my 1RM just a month ago, so pretty happy that I got every rep, but I felt like I was going to barf and my ribs were throbbing.  I did my mobility after my session but that's it. Pain killers helped A LOT a I slept better last night, but I need to take it easy.

This actually sounds fairly similar to what I do.  I've definitely dated guys who were all wrong for me just because they made a move and weren't the worst. Especially after a breakup, I'd date the rebound guy for far too long.

A poem is so bold though! I couldn't even hold the pen to write it.

I hate having any relationship-related conversation.  In France, it's much easier: you don't say anything unless you want it to be casual. Being boyfriend/girlfriend is the default. We don't even have a word for dating!

WEEK 4 / DAY 5

1. Meet prep: Rest day.  Feeling much, much better! Still not fully recovered, but at least I can sleep comfortably again and my trainer is making my next two workouts lower weights so I won't use my belt. Still not doing abs though, and I didn't get a chance to go running.  I am tempted to count the ~10mi I walked on Sunday and all the ping pong I've been playing at work (marketing agencies ftw) as cardio.

Sound logic.

WEEK 4 / DAY 6 & 7

1. Meet prep: Friday was a light session, squats 4x6 @70% so I could go beltless, and bench -- same rep scheme, slightly higher intensity. On Saturday I met with my trainer and did squats and bench again, heavy singles and some doubles.  I hit a 2lbs PR on my bench (2x1!) and my ribs are slowly healing. I'm feeling much more confident about the meet than I did a week ago! I also got the roster and there are a lot of very strong women in my flight, which takes away any thoughts like "I I weighed X or increased one lift by z, I could actually place". This is excellent for my sanity! I decided to count the walk and ping pong as cardio :P but didn't get to any abs, mostly because they hurt my side. Mobility didn't happen much either, but at least I finished the program I had picked.  Nutrition flew through the window between the Passover potluck at work on Friday and my date yesterday (lunch and dinner again, plus chocolate because Easter) yet I somehow managed to maintain my weight so no harm done there.

[NA] Film each lift once per week

[1/2] Cardio

[0/2] Do Your Damn Abs

[3/7] Becoming a Supple Leopard

[7/7] Log meals off (cut) plan

2. Keep my sanity: Finished my puzzle. It was hard. I ordered another one. It'll be harder.

[1/7] Write in journal

[1/1] Clean one part of apartment

[7/7] Get out of the house/be social

[6/7] Read and/or language practice

3. Don't shut down: I was a bit slower on the updates, but didn't ghost.  Weekly recap below, I'll post a challenge recap later (probably once I figured out what my next challenge will be).

WEEK 4 / RECAP

  • Training felt meh this week due to injury, yet I managed to PR on both deadlift and bench and hit my max squat for two singles so... all in all, not that bad.
  • Food was ok, I didn't stick to RP's maintenance plan but I balanced out whenever I overate the next meal or day and my weight is rather stable.
  • Cardio and abs just did not happen, but I'm not going to beat myself up for it.  I need to find a way to integrate cardio I actually like into my routine.
  • My apartment is so clean!
  • I had two excellent dates with the same guy.
  • I just didn't feel like posting much on here, so I didn't.

Overall, pretty fabulous. Nothing tragic happened and you made progress in your life. :)
