Thalianost Posted March 13, 2017 Report Share Posted March 13, 2017 Last challenge was sort of a warm up as it was my first challenge in about a year. Now I am ready to dive in to the next one....well almost. I am going to be switching up my lifting routine a little, adding overhead press and switching to 4 sets of 5 with increasing weights instead of 3x6 with fixed weights. Lifting schedule remains the same M,T,TH. This time, though I am adding some sprints in on Wednesday. I am not formally restricting my diet any more than the last challenge, though, as I decided last challenge, I am going to try to stop eating for the day once I hit my protein goal. For my side quest: last challenge I biffed hard trying to make chainmail pot scrubbers. This time I am shifting focus to a different craft: BUILDING TINY HOUSES! Seriously, my wife and I have a doll house last year that my grandfather had been building when he was still around and able to do so. We got it last fall (summer?) and have done absolutely nothing with it since. Which is a problem since we plan to give it to my daughter for her birthday in October and I know next to nothing about doll houses. Fortunately, my grandpa did a lot of work and we can more or less see the direction in which it is headed but still I actually need to work on it. Last night my wife and I agreed that we needed to make more use of our evenings so I will be working on the doll house while she works out. My goal is to work on it for an hour at least 4 nights a week. If I start noticeably loosing strength I may just stick to 2500 cal so I don't loose too much muscle mass I must say, I am glad Pi day didn't fall mid-challenge, I am surrounded by pie (largely of my own making). Resisting the tasty goodness is challenge enough (one that I fail regularly). But hey, it's rhubarb custard pie so I am getting eggs and veggies, that's healthy right? A couple pre-challenge updates: I maxed out on Tuesday and was rather pleased with the results. I went with estimated 1RM's: Bench: 245 lbs OHP: 140 lbs DL: 275 lbs I am going to be calculating my sets as percentages of these to kick off this challenge and adjusting as needed. I also looked over the doll house and the box of stuff that came with it. I had one of those "holy shit what have I gotten myself into" moments. Apparently, my grandpa intended to wire it for tiny functional lite fixtures and outlets O-O. There are also a couple kits to add realistic looking brick to the sides of the house. I guess I will just have to dive in and see where I end up. Thalianost Posted March 22, 2017 Author Report Share Posted March 22, 2017 Alright, Challenge underway! I didn't get off to the best start but I think I am recovering well. On Sunday I took my daughter to see her first movie in the theater: Beauty and the Beast. (It was very good by the way. I highly recommend it.) I decided to take the day off from watching my diet and just enjoy it with her, popcorn, fast food, the whole deal. But the next day I got back at it. My workouts have been a little disappointing. On Monday, lack of sleep killed my performance. I couldn't do all my sets. I switched sprints to Tuesday since I needed to get to work earlier and didn't have time for lifts. I actually surprised myself with my first sprint. I made it farther than ever before in 30 seconds, to the point where I had to check my phone to make sure the timer was running. The others were pretty typical considering I haven't really done any running for about a year and a half. Last night I got a decent amount of sleep but my deadlift was still not up to par because I am still sore from the sprints (again, haven't run in over a year). Everything else was ok though. I haven't been able to work on the doll house yet for various reasons. But I got glue for it last night so that is one excuse I can no longer use. Unfortunately, I still won't have time to work on it till Friday. The doll house is the quest that is suffering the most, I have either been too busy or too distracted to work on it. I am going to try to get down there at some point this week but at this rate, who knows. I have been sticking with my workouts. But my diet took a big hit when we went to visit my in-laws over the weekend. Three days down the drain. I don't do well when my routine is disrupted, especially when there is pie and cake and reese's. I am back on track now but I know I will be having similar issues in the future. I managed to spend some time looking at the doll house trying to figure out where to start. I will probably finish the outside first then work on the details inside. I will try to get a picture before I start gluing things on so we have a before shot. I used to make itty bitty buildings for wargames and I just used the 'ol "do everything at once with no real plan" strategy. Hit some PR's on Tuesday and got the makeup workout done today. Thank you for asking, Emerald_Dragonfly. I got all my workouts in last week and did well on my diet until the weekend when it fell apart entirely. Seems to be a pattern. I would me more upset about this if I weren't finally seeing real progress in my BF%, on Monday I finally got below 27% even though I was up 2lbs from the week before. (Though I should probably take this with a grain of salt since both measurements came from the same cheep bathroom scale) I had to adjust my workout schedule this week because my refrigerator started taking a downward turn on Monday so I had to spend my workout time Tuesday trying to breathe life into it. I was successful, though, at least for now. I made up the workout today and I plan to sprint tomorrow and lift on Friday since I have the day off from work. I have absolutely no hope for the weekend what with inlaws visiting and Easter but I will at least attempt to avoid overindulging (Am I delusional or lying?). The doll house looks like a wash this time around, I seriously doubt I will have any time to work on it even with the day off. But hey, there is always next challenge. I will try to adjust my goals to make them more attainable. Stick around, it will get done by the end of the summer. I am glad this is the last week of this challenge. One of my boys is having a surgery on Monday and workouts and diet will not be on my mind for a few days. Nothing serious, but ya know, surgery on babies is never something you want to deal with. Lifts and sprints will be there as will some sort of diet plan. I will probably have a Doll house quest as well. I may throw in some extra side quests, depends how ambitious I feel.
