Legend of Fonzico: The Wind Waker

Guys! I've lost my wind, and I need to get it back!

I was totally trampled by some kind of respiratory virus during the last two weeks of the previous challenge. I'm only just getting over it, and my lung health and overall endurance is pretty not great right now. This challenge is about recovery and getting myself back up to my previous workout levels.

tumblr_n6o5uozAGE1qbc2ylo1_250.gif

Incidentally, my DH bought me the WiiU remastered Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker game to help keep me from losing my mind during my convalescence. So I'm currently playing that (for the first time!) and conveniently it's an appropriate theme!

Goal One:

"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food."

I am going to get better a lot faster if I eat properly. What does this mean?

1. Cut out the gluten. It for sure does not help my breathing. The best way to make me want this SO badly is to tell myself I can't have any though. I am going to accomplish this by not being crazy restrictive with carbs. Lesser evils. I will still aim for under 150 gram of carbs per day - this is higher than my usual 100g goal, but it means that I can have rice/potatoes if I need to to avoid the much greater issue of wheat. (1 pt per gluten-free day. Bonus point for carbs below 100g. -1pt for carbs above 150g)

2. Restrict the dairy. While I can handle dairy okay, it's not the healthiest thing ever, and is probably my biggest indulgence. Aiming for 3 dairy-free days per week. (1 pt per day).

3. Eat enough protein. Not only will this support my recovery, but it will crowd out less healthy food choices. 80g per day ( 1 pt per day)

A : 68 pts   B : 60 pts  C : 54 pts   D : 48 pts

tumblr_npx1hhlcrd1r85hlio1_r1_500.gif

Goal Two:

"Everywhere is walking distance if you have the time."

I am wildly behind my yearlong walking goal (10,000 step average for 2017), because i was averaging between 2000-5000 steps while I was ill. Not only is walking a good way to build my endurance back up, but I will make up some ground on this goal at the same time. Aiming for 11,000 steps per day.

A : 308,000 pts   B : 294,000 pts  C : 280,000 pts   D : 266,000

ybv8hpE.gif

Goal Three:

"Tough times never last, but tough people do"

My intent for this challenge is build back up to the level of workout I was at before I got sick. This will be accomplished by 3x workouts per week, of increasing intensity. Likely 2 of these will be gym workouts, and a supplemental yoga/kettlebell/bodyweight whatever, but as long as I hit 3 sweaty sessions per week, I'm okay with whatever it is.

A : 12     B : 10     C : 8     D : 6

giphy.gif

Goal Four:

"I don't mean to be a diva, but some days you wake up and you're Barbara Streisand."

I've decided to add a sleep/wake up goal. I feel better when I have more time in the morning, and I've been staying up too late to get that lately. The goal, on weekdays, is to be in bed by 10pm, lights out by 10:30. On the other hand, I want to be up by 6:30 at the latest. I'd like to get this to 6am, but baby steps. 2 pts per day.

A : 40 pts   B : 30 pts  C : 20 pts   D : 10pts

Hello fellow Zelda fan!

Being sick is no fun. It often derails us from our fitness goals. It's good to see that you're determined to keep working towards the goals you set.

Just keep at it. You totally got this though. Walking is a good start. I haven't quite made it to 10,000 per day, I'm shooting for 7,000 myself. Hard when I have a job that requires me to sit so much... ugh! Oh well, it pays the bills.

Keep at it! You'll get it!

Back and already have your new challenge up, I'm impressed. I like your plan to allow some other carbs in, and just keeping it to no gluten. That works better for me. I really do so much better without gluten, but then if I add several other no goes, it starts to feel restrictive and I just eat everything

I feel you - I have a desk job too! Getting 10,000 steps on my non-gym days requires some planning - usually a morning and evening dog walk plus little walks on my coffee and lunch breaks. It's hard to keep it up! But I have to, or I'm never going to make up the -gulp- 100,000 steps that I'm already behind this year!

Thanks for the support and Zelda-love, of course!

I just wanted to shake off the old challenge - there was just too much negative stuff going on there. So that meant putting up my new one ASAP :)

And exactly what you said about the restrictions! It has the opposite of the intended effect when I go too strict (the Whole 30 is different). I figure, tackle the biggest issues first, then refine.

Looks good! Are you still doing ASL classes too?

Yes, I am! I didn't make it a goal, because I wanted to keep focused this round, but level 2 American Sign Language classes started up last week! I missed the first class because I was still too sick, but it sounds like it was just review. I still kind of felt like I was dying on Thursday, but I went anyways because I couldn't stand to miss two classes. I survived though and learned how to tell people where I live and what my house looks like :D

Today felt good. First full workday for me since a week ago Friday.

Also made it to the gym with my sister. We mostly just walked around the track, but also did a quick single set of some body weight stuff. Squats (10), push-ups (10 -knee) crunches (like... 5 maybe?), lunges (6 per side) and a plank.

I was so completely and utterly wiped out by that... It was so sad. But it'll only get better from here.

The good news is I got almost 14000 steps!

Food was pretty good. I did have dairy (tzatziki with breakfast, cheddar cheese with supper) and I should have passed on the croutons on my salad - they weren't very good anyway.

Metrics and overall calories were great though.

First official day back to being myself = success!

Yeah, I plan to get to 10,000/day eventually. Right now I"m at 7,000/day. Once I get used to that then I'll bump it up to 8,000/day and so on. Totally doable... just takes some planning and mindful exercising to get it done. Generally on gym days I can hit around 8,000-9,000 depending.

And yes... all the Zelda-love over here!

Awesome start! You totally got this!

There are very few places that have good croutons... most are flavorless and sad, empty pockets of stale bread. There are one or two places though that are really tasty.

Awesome first day back! Keep up the momentum!

Haha momentum, my left foot.

Yesterday was pretty blah. I felt very crappy during the day - stomach was off and I felt light-headed. Not sure if it's because I overdid it the day before, or what.

Because I'm super smart, my reaction to this was to totally over eat :/

I had ASL class, so there wasn't much time for anything else. I did get a puppy walk in before work, but still only got up to 8400 steps. :/

Blerrrrgh. Better day happening today!

Maybe your body needed the food. Or not. Sometimes I have that where I'm not sure if my stomach is upset or it needs food. And it's bad to guess wrong.:(

On another note, enjoyed your interview, but I was left with the question, what is your squat butt song?:)

I know - I don't think food was the right choice in this case, unfortunately.

Haha so yeah. The squat butt song.

You know the backpack song from Dora the Explorer?

It's just like that, but you say squat butt instead of backpack [emoji14]

Yesterday was going pretty well... Until I caved in to the ginger cookies on my counter. At least they were all kinds of deliciously worth it. Im not sure if I'm rebelling against the rules that are kicking in soon, or if I really am going to have this hard if a time, but I am really struggling with the whole gluten and dairy thing right now.

But, on the other hand, I've not been meal planning very well, so maybe I just need to set myself up for better success.

I did get over 11000 steps in yesterday, so that was a win!

I haven't managed to squeeze another gym session in since Monday, and it's not looking good - I have ASL class tonight, going to the movies (at 630) for a friend's birthday tomorrow, going to Calgary for some disc golf Saturday, then games night in the evening... Whew!

But Sunday, for sure. Which I might count as day one, I did that the last couple challenges and although I was always a vehement champion for Monday challenge starts, once I got my stubborn brain wrapped around change, I actually think I like Sunday better.

Looks like a busy weekend ahead for you, but with the disk golf you can make up the steps again. 11 000 so far is a super win!

I'm a bit more lenient on myself this week with the "usually not allowed food", but then again I'm baking cakes and there are a lot of icing and sweet stuff involved. I actually haven't had much: too much sugar around me, air smelling sweet, and after a while I just loose my craving for chocolate or the sweet things. Had a taste here and there though to be sure that the ganache is right. ;) My idea is, have that biscuit if it is REALLY REALLY good, but don't go overboard. Maybe one or two biscuits only.

I'm feeling the pressure of lack of time... I know how that feels. I had to work late last night which didn't leave me time to work out. I'm feeling the need to exercise! It's frustrating, especially when I work a desk job.

Why can't there be more time in a day? We need more time!!!
