Most of the time Rannoch Moor is just plain desolate, but in the snow it really is something to see. I'm reasonably sure Dartmoor is the better of the pair in summer though!

I have a thing for desolate places. Most of the places I want to visit most are deserts, in one way or another. As much as I love lush forests to hike through, what I really find intriguing and beautiful is seeing life take root in the most desolate of places, despite the environment rather than because of it.

Glad to hear the viewings went well, and the places sound like they have a lot of potential and will be an upgrade over where you are now. And it sounds like you've got some potential good work opportunities too, which is great! I'm hoping so hard that things keep going on this positive track for you!!!

I'm still pretty surprised things went as well as they did, but that's not to say I'm complaining about it! I'm gonna give the letting agent a call when they're open and see if I can't get this application process kickstarted.

Meditation: Admittedly this went right out of the window and my mind remained consumed by far too many details and thoughts and plans that I was trying to work through.

Sleep: ...and this suffered as a result. Took me hours to drift off, and then I woke up early and lay there for a while debating on whether I should get up.

Social: It’s in the works. I’ve been a little social within my own thread, I have a phone call to make, and the rest of today really depends on that phone call, so we’ll see.

Stress relief: I probably need some right about now.

Babble

Look, an early one for once! Couldn’t sleep, so I figured getting started with my day was the best option. Plus I had a coffee craving, so I really had to get up and indulge that one!

Last night was a bit of a disaster, but I’m not surprised, and I know that once I get a lot of the things in my head out and down on paper my mind will calm a little more. Plus I do have that looming sense of disappointment that today I’m returning to Fort William, and will have to stay there for a while.

Since there only seem to be something like three or four trains from Glasgow to Fort William, and there’s no way I’ll be there in time to catch the one leaving around 12, I’m stuck with my usual, the one leaving after 6pm. This means I have a lot of free time to play with, and a good portion of it depends on the phone call I’m going to make. It could be that I’ll be going back into the city centre to start this application process, or it could be that I’ll be able to start it over the phone. Either way, I’ll be checking out of the hotel soonish. Once my business here is concluded for the time being, I’ll jump on a train to Edinburgh, visit a physical branch of my bank (rare and hard to find these days…), and then seek out my favourite coffee shop.

At some point I will get on a train to Glasgow, spend a couple of hours freezing my ass off in the station, and then go back to what I still call home. There is unlikely to be another update today due to the fact that I will be getting back quite late.

If I skip meditation, my sleep suffers too -- I find that deciding to make use of the "restless time" by meditating seems to address both issues nicely -- I "fail" at meditation by falling asleep. :)

Very brief update to say that I am still alive, just feeling a little under the weather. The journey back to the west coast was long and uncomfortable and the final train got delayed a lot, and I think that and the stress got to me. Nothing serious, just draining.

I'm going to try and get back with the scheduled programming as of tomorrow morning, including the usual 8am rise/8:30am post. I've still got a couple of days off work, which is a bonus as I doubt I'd do well there right now. Here's hoping for a full recovery in time for Wednesday...

Meditation: Nothing more than a short spell of focusing only on my breathing as I tried to get to sleep. At the very least, so far evening/night time meditation is proving best for me in that it makes it easier to sleep.

Sleep: Fractured, fragmented. My sleep schedule has descended into chaos since coming back, but I’m working on fixing it.

Social: Working on it. Will catch up with NF threads today.

Stress relief: Needed!

Babble

Well, I don’t feel particularly fantastic, but I’m up and I’m ready to get going. I’ve got a list of things that I need to get through today, most of which are household type chores to be done and cleared before starting to pack again. Been in touch with my landlord and he says he wants someone from the estate agency to come inspect the place, so I really need to make sure everything is as good as it can be otherwise that’s more coming out of my deposit (shed is destroyed, so that’s an unavoidable deposit expense…).

Taking it light on the physical activity today. Hit my milage target last week and then some, and that was with two days of inactivity, so I know I can afford today off.

Declutter: Done and then some. My living room is emptying out nicely, and I’m developing a nice stack of boxes in the spare room. So far I’m finding that it’s easier to pack and declutter side by side, so that’s the way I’m continuing.

Stretching: I forgot this morning, but I have a post it note written for my evening stretches, so they will get done!

Burpees: One. One burpee. It made me feel minorly ill, but at least I did one!

Walk: Unless we count the ten metres total I did to put the bin out and then take it back in, nada.

Social: Kinda? I’m working on it.

Stress relief: Actually, decluttering was quite relaxing. Plus plenty of time spent on Oblivion.

Babble

I managed to get stuff done, so I’m happy. Not all of the things, but things nonetheless. Plus most of my application for that flat that caught my eye has been completed. I was anticipating drag on the employer reference, but it must have been Deputy D in the office as it got done about ten seconds after I filled their details into the form. I didn’t even have to trek into town, go to the library to print off the ‘someone will contact you for to ask if I actually work for you’ warning form, and then hand it in. Instead what’s dragging is my landlord’s reference, but that’s understandable. Different time zones and all that.

That said, I’m trying not to pin all of my hopes on this, though it’s easy to get excited. Another viewing trip would be tricky to plan, to say the least, and would require car hire to cut down on travel time (three hours each way as opposed to double that, meaning I could technically do a day trip if pushed). But I will do what it takes.

Got my meditation done earlier than anticipated as well, in good part thanks to @NeverThatBored's generosity. I’ve signed up to Headspace and am currently working my way through the 10 day course as a precursor of sorts before delving into the rest of the site. First impressions are good, the voice guiding you through the meditation is in a pitch range that I can hear easily, and somewhat surprisingly the guidance was quite similar to what I’d been attempting to do unguided. Made things much easier though! It does advise first thing in the morning meditation, but while I’m this exhausted I’ll be sticking to the night time stuff, because I know me and I know I would go back to sleep if I did that particular one in the morning!

Plans for tonight include doing a whole lot of not much, followed by stretching, followed by a reasonable bed time. Morning is same as ever, 8am rise, 8:30am post.

I always do it at night! I fought the good fight to do it in the morning for a while, but nighttime just stuck better for me than morning did. Still works.

Meditation: Going to have to move this to my evening report, I think...

Sleep: Very fragmented. In the end, I switched off my alarms at about 4am, deciding to let my body rest as long as needed. Wasn’t too bad. I woke up at about 10:30am and was out of bed by 11am. Not ideal, but all things considered, needed.

Social: Still working on it, but I’m slowly improving.

Stress relief: I have about an hour of time set aside for a stint on Oblivion towards the end of the day, so that will do just nicely.

Babble

I’m tired, but I’ll make do. Got a fair amount to do today, including repaint the bathroom ceiling. That’ll come this evening, once I’ve showered and given the place plenty of time to dry/air out. Have to nip into town as well as I’ve run out of soya milk. They do have it in the shop around the corner, but it’s cheaper in Lidl and I get more of a walk if I go there, so win-win!

I’ll continue on with my pack/declutter mission as best I can as well. It does seem like it’s really soon to be doing this, but if I am successful with the application I’m working on right now then I’ll need to start moving stuff ASAP as I’ll have very few opportunities to do so, and I don’t want to leave it all until the week of holiday I have leading up to my leaving date. If I’m not successful, then I live out of boxes for a while longer.

Declutter: Minimal. Anxiety set in and not much got done.

Stretching: Done

Burpees: Two, which is one more than yesterday and therefore acceptable.

Walk: Round trip to get the soya milk was 2.2 miles.

Meditation: Done, though a little tougher than yesterday due to the aforementioned anxiety.

Social: ...not so much.

Stress relief: Need some.

Babble

My current landlord has not responded to any reference requests, which has resulted in the agency hounding me to get him to respond to them. What they think I can do I don’t know, average response time from him ranges from a few days to a few weeks. So, basically, I could lose out on this particular application due to him being non-responsive.

I’m trying not to think about it whilst simultaneously trying to plan out what to do if it turns out to be the case.

...and I’m back to work tomorrow after nine days off, which I can’t say I’m looking forward to.

Declutter: Minimal again.

Stretching: Done

Burpees: I forgot :(

Walk: Took a slightly longer route in and out of work, bringing my milage to 6 so far this week.

Meditation: Done, and I think I’m getting better at this now that I’m doing the guided thing. I definitely felt a lot better after this last one.

Social: I went to work. I’m now a little oversocialised...

Stress relief: Achieved.

Babble

I was a bundle of conflicting emotions leading up to work today, partly because I was dreading what I’d go in to find, partly because the agency were still bombarding me with calls/texts/emails to get my landlord to respond to the reference request. In the end I left early to try and walk out some of the stress.

Work itself was as hectic as ever. I spent an hour and a half running three counters today, shocking the guy who seems to be a new duty manager. And then when my fresh prep co-worker came in I was a little disappointed to see it was one of the new kids, Special K. I may be a horrible person for naming her that, but she’s earned it. The girl needs a regular boot up the backside to do anything, and when she does she moves like a snail on sleeping pills.

But I did get a little mood boost when I went on my break and found a text from the agency that was actually welcome, namely that the landlord had actually completed the reference request and my application would now be able to proceed full steam ahead.

So far they’ve proven to be all about efficiency, so here’s hoping I’ll know within the next couple of days.

Glad to hear you got your reference, it would have sucked if you'd have missed out on a place because of someone else.

I'm constantly amazed at how well you are handling so much. Moving job and house are 2 of the worst things and you are doing them at the same time. Who's awesome? Youz awesome.

I was so worried that that is exactly what would happen. Now it's just playing the waiting game and hoping for the best...

Honestly, out of the two it's the job transfer that's causing me the most stress. I'm terrified of what will happen there. New place, new people, maybe even a new position with which I have no experience. In comparison moving house is just awkward...

Declutter: Not much, but enough that I was actually able to do some proper cooking.

Stretching: Done

Burpees: Five.

Walk: Milage now stands at 9.2.

Meditation: Done, although this one felt a little more difficult than yesterday. I mean, it’s only day four of guided meditation, so I shouldn’t be entirely surprised.

Social: Work beat me up a little, I’m exhausted and I really just want to go to bed.

Stress relief: Yep.

Babble

Not much to report today. Work was a bit of a shitshow. Took my notes (the CO is going to get a hell of a report when she comes back from holiday) and had a bit of a rant to FDO. And she had a rant right back. We’re both pissed off about the same issues, we’re both at a bit of a loss as to how to make people do the jobs that they’ve been paid to do. It sucks, basically.

Plan for tonight is just to take it easy and go to bed on time, I’ll decide on a waking time when I get an idea of how likely I am to sleep properly.
