Miss Marissa gets mindful

This challenge might look familiar to some of you. Goals haven't really changed, so my challenge shouldn't really change. A common theme you will see throughout.

 

 

The big change since last time and overarching theme throughout all of the goals is to be mindful about them and not just do things to do things.

Mindful movement: really tune in to my body, feel my muscles contracting and stretching, the weight of my body on my feet or hands, how my quality of movement affects everything

Mindful reading: slow and deliberate. Take time to absorb what I am reading and incorporate into my life as required

Mindful mornings: take this time for myself, focusing on eating mindfully, moving in a way that enhances my day, taking time to prepare myself for the day mentally and physically

Mindful eating: eat slowly and mindfully, ensuring everything I'm eating nourishes my body and soul, taking the time to enjoy each bite and stop when I no longer feel hungry or the food doesn't nourish me the same as the first bite.

Mindful spirit: Take the rest of these and find a way to incorporate daily life, including prayer and worship. Take it as a meditation of sorts.

 

1) Fitness

Move your body in some way minimum 5x/week. I want to get back on a dedicated lifting program, as I have the itch to do that again. Must include lifting 3x/week, abs at least 2x/week, gymnastics 1x/week, hip strengthening 2x/week, handstands 2x/week (can be done at or outside of gymnastics). This goal might be ambitious and I have the right to change it if I decide.

2) Read

Most days. Don’t have a number in mind, but I know if it’s a goal, it happens. If not, it doesn’t.

3) Work on dat morning routine.

Still not a habit, therefore, still a goal.

 

Do these things for sure:

Turn off phone when I go to bed and use a different alarm clock.
Prep breakfasts

Pick out outfit/jewelry etc night before

Pack gym back night before

Morning stretching routine

 

4) Whole 30 redo

Ya’ll thought I was done with this huh?

My cravings for sugar are still bullshit. I want to continue to eat Whole30-ish to still keep this in check. What whole30-ish means is still TBD based on my reintroduction of certain foods, but it will likely resemble something like: minimal dairy, no gluten, no alcohol, no sugar or artificial sweeteners, no sweet snacks (e.g. larabars, overly sweet trail mix, smoothies. Plain fruit is fine.) The goal is to get used to not reaching for something sweet when I want a snack and replacing one sugar habit with a different sugar habit. The end goal of this is different than the first whole30, hence different rules. Also, won't be 30 days, but through the end of the challenge.

 

Is it really a whole30? No... feel free to come up with another name for me. 

 

Also, meal planning and prepping was super beneficial, whole 30 or not, so that is staying there.

5) Church

I haven't really been going to church since I've moved to Madison. That's been fine up until now, but now it's something I'm starting to miss and want back in my life.

☐☐ Go to services at 2 different churches over this challenge to try to find a home.

 

Note: I go on vacation March 16-21 so my day 1 for this challenge will be Wednesday March 22. I will probably still track and write things here in the interim, but won't count towards my challenge.

Inquiring minds want to know!  I am betting on a large non-Denominational.

 

 

This is an issue I have been struggling with for a few years or so and that is why I am on the list of inquiring minds, but I don't want to unload on your thread.  The short story is I believe I need to overhaul my routine and that includes where I hang out on Sunday morning.

Day -1

 

1) Fitness

Gymnastics class last night. One of those times when I was just not getting it. More round off back tucks (into pit). My arms are the issue, they just don't want to cooperate. My legs seemed to have shaped up, but arms are all willy nilly. Not getting fully vertical out of my round off. These back tucks are always 2 steps forward one step back (and then fall on your butt) each week. Nearly the whole class was focused on round off back tucks. Spent the last 15 minutes working handstands.

 

 

 

2) Read

Read some of Food Freedom Forever.

 

3) Work on dat morning routine.

Turn off phone when I go to bed and use a different alarm clock.

Weird morning due to meeting up with nerds for breakfast. Crunched for time so I skipped stretching and (obviously) didn't prep breakfast. No gym tonight so no gym bag. Hoping to at least get a small flow in tonight.

 

4) Whole 30 redo

Don’t eat shit that’s not on the Whole 30. Period.

 

No meal plan or prep because leaving on Thursday so there's no point. Um yesterday I had gluten and cheese and incidental soy in my meatballs.

Dairy is definitely not doing me any favors.

No. Anything but that.

 

I'm open to options. I was raised Lutheran and prefer a service with that type of structure to it. Doesn't have to be super formal, but I feel more comfortable with at least some traditional songs and the general outline of a service. There is at least one Lutheran church near me I was going to look at.
