darkfoxx Posted March 15, 2017 Report Share Posted March 15, 2017 If this past year has taught me nothing, it's that the more things change the more they stay the same. As we start this next Cycle, I find myself *still* struggling to get back on track fitness-wise and *still* learning to adapt to having a wildly variable schedule. You'd think by now I'd have figured this shit out On the workout front, I think my issue stems from a: not having a set schedule, and b: not having a "real" (i.e. specific date or cash related) goal in mind. When I was in training for 90-gillion races and mud runs and had a set time to work out that was immovable, I did great. When I have zero idea what I'll be doing at 5pm and way less expendable income, focusing becomes an issue. Plus: motivation. If I'm honest with myself, I really suck at keeping motivated when I either don't see any progress or can't keep focused long enough to reap any rewards. Incremental change that amounts to banging my head against a wall is also a surefire ticket to abandoning my fitness goals town. What has worked best in the past is having a video-related program to follow that involved half an hour or under a day (I'm thinking the HasFit HIIT-style programs), in-person yoga classes, mini-challenges and accountability. Methinks I need to get back to some or all of that. I just need to figure out what path to set down. And there's that shiny new gym with shiny new fitness equipment ... Goal 1, unsurprisingly, is yet again to work out. I'm still nebulous on frequency, or what to do - we'll start this challenge with a 'just do some shit per week' plan and settle on a concrete battle plan by the end. Goal 2 - shocker - macros. I'm sticking with mostly keto because that's working for me, but I'll allow 1 variance per week as a carb up meal. Goal 3 - still - to get a damn job. I'm beyond unthrilled that this is still a goal. But, since it's still something that needs to happen - I still need to work at it every damn day, so it's staying as a goal. Goal 4 - figure out my 'new normal' and try to freak out less about it. My fridge is tiny, my freezer is even smaller, my stove is doll-sized and won't get but so hot, and my pantry has shrunk by half. Also, it now takes me an hour and a damn half to get anywhere, my grocery stores are a pain in the ass to get to, and the car is trying its damnedest to present itself as an easy solution. I need to put my big girl undies on, quit crying about it on the train, and deal. I'll be fine and this is not the end of the world. It's not like I don't even still live in NYC - I do; just not in my borough and not with the type of lifestyle I wanted being as convenient. I need to be more resilient here. It'll build character. Ok, done whining. Moving at the pace of the crowd down subway steps is fine. Moving down the hall in the herd is difficult. Goal 2: Macros Breakfast: No-atmeal & coffee Lunch: Leftover chicken casserole Dinner: 2 hot Italian sausages with mustard Train Snack: Wild purse jerky bar Waiting for the Ferry Snack: Sesame oil seaweed snacks Successfully avoided beer & wine while out Goal 3: Get A Job Went to a panel discussion on mentorship and networking. There was some pretty good conversation, and some good info shared. Ended up talking to a panelist and an audience member about North Carolina (panelist went to Davidson and Wake Forest; audience member went to Duke). Also talked to another audience member about General Assembly (the event was at GA) and living in Staten Island - he was excited to see someone else from SI there. We may end up getting coffee. 2.5 hours of copywriting. Did my daily CSS. Applied for 2 jobs. Ordered new pants so maybe I'll be up to 2 pairs of pants that actually fit. Goal 4: Figure My Shit Out Decided to not leave dishes overnight. Came home to the second bed curtain being hung, so I need to hem those soon. I'm sure it's a terrible idea, but I think I'll try hemming in situ. I'm thinking of pinning the curtains and then using washai tape to keep the bottoms clean & reinforce the hem. If you are just doing a quick whip stitch, hemming them in place sounds like a solid plan. I can't imagine that you have a sewing machine tucked away somewhere in your tiny apartment. I met her at a networking event this late summer. Boom. Did my daily CSS and it s-u-c-k-e-d. So fuggs I didn't tweet it at the sponsors. Copywriting. Applied for 10 jobs. Goal 4: Figure My Shit Out Almost killed hubby when he suggested I start looking for jobs not in NYC (like Jersey) and that I could get a car. I know. He's trying to help. He has zero idea how hard it is to hold my shit together as it is. He didn't mean to be an insensitive ass. Again. For the zillionth time. Did not go to bed with dishes in the sink; the DH commented on how dishes are easier to find now that someone (him) doesn't leave them in the living room. Did not fold the living room blankets before bed, but I did tidy my desk area before calling it quits for the day and made sure my water jar was in place. Now if only I can extend all this tidying to at least half-assedly making the bed ... He now runs down the hall to go outside, is reluctant to come in from the "park", and even exerts a modicum of independence while in the house by sometimes choosing to sleep on his bed instead of cuddle on the couch. That, and he has *two* fluffy bath mats he likes to boss around and redecorate with - he stacks them for an opulent place to nap often, then drags the little one into the kitchen while we're gone. Goal 2: Macros Breakfast: Faux-Rina & coffee Lunch: 2 hot Italian sausage links & peppers + onions Dinner: Delivery from a pizza/Italian place. I had chicken scampi with broccoli instead of noodles. Snack: Quest makes a peanut butter cup. It's semi-satisfying. Goal 3: Get A Job Weekend! Goal 4: Get Your Shit Together New pants came in and they can stay. Got the dress pant yoga pants from Betabrand and they're comfortable, fit well (hoping the length shrinks an inch - they're great with heels; a little bunchy without), and they don't make my butt look terrible. Dishes were put up. Blankets were folded. Living room was picked up despite the DH's efforts to the contrary. There was a pizza box and fry pan we're tossing left on the counter, but they're leaving today - with the trash that is now full & the recycling. Took the ferry to Battery Park & walked up the park on the left side of the island to this mall with a great food court, then walked through the new warren of shopping options around Ground Zero - showed the DH the new oculus everyone is shooting for Instagram, and ended up at Eataly to grab some of our favorite burger patties. All in all, a good day. And we saw this: In honor of either the Manhattan Half or the beautiful sun. This is the oculus: Not to be confused with the one at 1 World Trade Center Plaza. Apparently, downtown likes the term 'oculus'. Goal 2: Macros Some win going on here today - spent a bunch of time fighting cravings for bad shit. Breakfast: Some form of bar & coffee Snack: Grande misto with almond milk Lunch: Skipped Snack: Half a snack bag of Quest chips Dinner: Aged beef patty, raw milk cheese & green beans cooked in sausage fat & butter Goal 3: Get A Job No work here; finally told the DH I got picked up for the April class.
