Hurley starts moving

Okay, time for my 10th challenge!!

tumblr_oilk2ci3851tsfx8ro1_400.gif

It's time for me to get moving again. I started on my last challenge, but now to amp it up a little bit. I'm also going to carry over a few non-moving goals.

tumblr_mbp7hpB83T1r0br7do1_250.gif

Move 1 mile 5x a week

Way back in October I bought an under desk elliptical. It's still sitting in it's box. This weekend I am going to put it together and bring it into work. My goal is between that and just general walking around, to do 1 mile 5 days a week. That will be what, 20 miles, by the end of the challenge.

Take stairs to car 3x a week

I'm still parking on the 3rd level of the parking garage. And by the end of the last challenge, I was still struggling to make it to the 3rd floor without being winded or have my legs be super sore. I don't want to feel that way anymore. I also haven't taken the stairs at all this week during the break. Oops. I've been blaming it on my knee. It feels weird. But, starting Monday at the very latest, I will take the stairs again!

Eat more fruits and vegetables

Still working on this one, too. I'm going to aim for 4x a week to eat some fruit or vegetable. I actually just found a recipe for bell pepper tacos! They sound so good. I just need to learn how to cut an onion. I hate onions. I'm wondering if I can leave it out. Anyway, back to the goal. Eat more fruits and veggies!

Stop spending money like a dickhead

I need to build my savings back up. Since December, I've lost about $15,000. Granted, I moved to a new apartment and had to put down $6,000 and then get stuff for it and pay rent without a roommate... But, I want my money back!! I've been putting way too much on my credit cards. So, of the two cards that I have, I'm only allowed to put $100 max on each every month. I have a few exceptions, like cat food (order a prescription online) and (if I decide to do it) my hotel room for comic con.

So here goes challenge #10!!!

Good luck with the goals! What's your strategy for decreasing your spending, by the way?

"When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it." -Henry Ford

"If you know the way broadly, you will see it in all things." -Miyamoto Musashi

"Oh, she says, well, you're not a poor man. You know, why don't you go online and buy a hundred envelopes and put them in the closet? And so I pretend not to hear her. And go out to get an envelope because I'm going to have a hell of a good time in the process of buying one envelope. I meet a lot of people. And, see some great looking babies. And a fire engine goes by. And I give them the thumbs up. And, and ask a woman what kind of dog that is. And, and I don't know. The moral of the story is, is we're here on Earth to fart around. And, of course, the computers will do us out of that. And, what the computer people don't realize, or they don't care, is we're dancing animals. You know, we love to move around. And, we're not supposed to dance at all anymore." -Kurt Vonnegut.

Thanks!

My strategy is to use cash as much as possible. That way I can physically see how much I am spending. If I can't afford it with my weekly allowance ($50), then I don't really need it.

I think that since I have outfitted most of the apartment my credit card use will drop drastically. Looking at my spreadsheets I would average $250 on one card and almost $0 on the other. I only got the one for travel stuff. But when I became unemployed I started using it more so I could pay for stuff in installments almost. I would buy something and put it on card A, and then would buy something else and put it on card B so I could pay for it at a somewhat later date since they are on different billing cycles. I don't have any credit card debt. I pay both off in full every time.

One problem i have is that I don't buy a lot, but what I do buy is expensive! I've had my eye on a new cat tower, but after shipping, it would be roughly $650! Needless to say, I've put this on the back burner. I also want pet jellyfish, but again, that's $500 :( I need to put more money in my savings before I buy either.

This X 10000. I've heard nothing but good things about using this particular approach.

Have you considered building one?

I've considered it. I just don't know how. This is the one I want. I never took a shop class in school, or knew anyone who was into building things so I don't have the basic knowledge needed. I'm sure I could figure it out,  but this might be beyond beginner building.

Yay! I have birthday party money!! (if the party happens). I forgot that when I got my internet and cable I was able to claim a $200 prepaid card. It arrived in the mail last week. I thought it was only $50, but I just activated it, and it's $200 :) One of the places I can use it is Dave & Busters, which I am going to with some friends to celebrate my birthday in a month. So, as long as the 3 people don't flake out on me (and since it's my birthday and I'm trying to celebrate, they probably will. Don't have a good history with celebrating) I have money to spend on food and games!!!

And if they do flake out on me, I can now afford to buy the shoes I want to get for my 11th Doctor cosplay because Zappos is one of the accepted stores as well!!

Unfortunately, Amazon is not :(

Tonight's dinner. Bell pepper tacos made with ground lean turkey and plain Greek yogurt instead of sour cream.

42ff55a3586c795f11094377acf16ff7.jpg

Not bad, but not great. The peppers are soft and hard to hold. And I think the last step is a typo. You're suppose to cook the meat like you would a regular taco, stuff the peppers, add cheese and then cook for another 20 minutes. The cheese is past melty and is now hard. And I can only imagine the meat would be overcooked. I only had it in for 10 minutes.

I have a ton of leftovers, but next time I'm going to play with it a little.

i love bell peppers, too. I only discovered them a couple years ago. I thought all peppers were spicy so I avoided them until someone made me eat one. Now I love them.

I weighed myself and took some measurements yesterday. This is my official starting point for the next several challenges.

Weight: 215.1

Waist: 35

Hips: 51

Body Fat % (measured by scale): 46.6

Last time I took these measurements was in November. Weight has only gone up by .7 pounds. Waist stayed the same. Hips went up by an inch. And Body Fat % went down by .6. Not too bad, I think. I thought things were going to be a lost higher. Whatever I've been doing has been maintaining. Now time to lose!

I agree. If you pre-cook the peppers and pre-cook the meat, you only need to bake them until the cheese melts to your liking. I often find instructions in recipes to not seem correct. Always go with your instinct!

Like yesterday I made stuffed tomatoes and there is ZERO way all the fulling was going to fit into the tomatoes. If I had put everything in, maybe half would have fit. And I bought HUGE jumbo ones.

That's exactly what I was thinking of doing.

That's so odd that the amount of filling didn't match the size of the tomatoes. Maybe the original person had mutant tomatoes, that were just massive?

And I'm quickly learning that with cooking you can modify things to how you like it, unlike baking. My parents were over yesterday helping hang some shelves and blinds and I was telling my mom about the different recipes that I have tried or want to try. She was super proud. I'm just going to be eating those tacos for the rest of the week! I should freeze half, or only make a half batch next time.

The good news about today, is that I won't be having any chai. I left my mug in the dishwasher this morning and didn't remember it until I was already walking into work. Oops, but yay.

They both say WGBH on them, the new ones says "My Day Job: Saving Public Media".

Recap of yesterday:

Move 1 mile - just shy! Apparently I did .99 miles. Though, I took my fitbit off at 7, so I could have done the extra .1 miles just walking around the apartment.

Take stairs - did it!!!

Eat veggies/fruit - had another helping of the bell pepper tacos. I eat two at a time, so I ate an entire bell pepper last night. I even "meal prepped" and washed all the grapes I bought and measured them out into plastic bags. So all I need to do now in the morning is grab a bag and go!

Stop spending money like a dickhead - I didn't spend anything yesterday!

I forgot to put my elliptical together over the weekend and didn't do it last night. I'm aiming to do it tonight. I'll make up those 2 miles later in the week. I just got home and was so exhausted, and still am. I slept right through my roommate getting up and leaving this morning, which usually wakes me up because he's super loud. We have soft close cabinets and yet he still slams them shut. Guys. Also doesn't help that I have to leave my door open due to the cats, and then the cats want me up once he leaves. But this morning I heard him make his fiber water and that's it. Next thing I heard was my alarm. I could take a nap at my desk.

I still haven't put together my elliptical :(

But here's a recap of yesterday:

Move 1 mile - Complete!! Did 1.18 miles. Helps that I went grocery shopping and had to walk the length of the store twice

Take stairs - did it!!!

Eat veggies/fruit - had the last two bell pepper tacos. I also had one of the bag of grapes at lunch

Stop spending money like a dickhead - only money I spent was the pre-planned grocery money

I swear I am going to get that elliptical built this week. Even if it's Saturday and I have to do all the miles to make up for Monday and anything I miss!

I also put a somewhat unapproved charge on a card a couple minutes ago. I've always wanted a tattoo, but have been scared to get one. But now there are a couple websites that have long lasting temporary tattoos. The one that's popular now I didn't do, because it only has pre-made designs. I had saved a link a year or two ago about one where they would do custom ones. So a couple weeks ago I filled out their form and told them one of the designs I was thinking. I got my final design back today and I love it!! I had to put down a downpayment a couple weeks ago, and I just finished paying for it today. Now, I need to upload the design and get the actual temporary tattoo. I'd post the picture, but it's not letting me :(
