PATHFINDER TEAM NEW RECRUIT:  STARPUCK

Pathfinders are the "tip of the spear" for exploring new worlds.

Pathfinders are trained to improve the viability of potential planets, initiate first contact with unknown species,

find suitable outpost sites, and handle any external threats before the first colonist touches soil.

 

Recruit Dossier:  Starpuck

Female, 5'2"  155lb

Ranger Archetype, N7 Graduate, Rampage Squadron

Notes:  Upon academy acceptance, did not rank in the upper percentile of classes and testing but showed great determination and perseverance throughout the courses and field training.   Team skills are a strong point, as is the ability to lead as a subordinate.   Capable marksman, physically strong, and well adapted to creative, "outside-the-box" thinking.

EXPLORATION GOALS

Finding sustainable food sources that will provide beyond minimal needs is an essential mandate for the Pathfinder teams.    Any potential planet must be capable of providing the required nutrients for ongoing health and training, as well as ensure increased health and vitality.

 

SUSTAINABLE FOOD SOURCES

- Produce; fruits and vegetables 5 servings/day

Fruit: 1-1.5 servings per day

Vegetables: 4 servings per day

 

PROBIOTIC/IMMUNE BOOSTING RESOURCES

- Healthy cultures; yogurt, kombucha, natural teas daily

 

[I will be trying a challenge where I do not track my calories, but will be tracking what I eat.   I'd like to get my gut into better working order, and I'd like to fill up on foods that promote health and satiety without a lot of garbage calories.   To strive for this, I will be focusing on eating more fruits and veggies at each meal, as well as trying to do some of my own cooking ahead of time.   I'm also going to be adding more variety into my food plan.   I have been eating the exact same thing during the work week for years.]

 

 

COMBAT PREP

While exploration of viable planets is the forefront of the pathfinder's mission, they must be prepared for the high likelihood of encountering dangerous fauna.   Well trained members will be capable of handling rigorous encounters with both beast, and potentially aggressive native inhabitants.

 

ENDURANCE TRAINING

- Movement; activity based on increasing heart rate and engaging respiratory system.

Aerobic-Anaerobic Zone:  2x/week  [running, hockey]

Temperate Zone: 1x/week [walk]

 

STRENGTH TRAINING

- Functional strength improvement; designed to keep the pathfinder in peak shape for a wide range of potential risks.

Strength Training: 3x/week [bodyweight, pull ups, balance focused movements, some barbells]

 

[Maintaining the usual routine here.   The goal is to move with intent six times per week.   Walks, even ones that are slower or unweighted will count toward this and not act as a rest day.  Trying to shift the mental focus from 'this will make me look better' to 'this will make ME better - stronger - healthier - more capable" as I have too long struggled with results driven motivation.]

 

DATA ACQUISITION AND ANALYSIS

Acquiring and analyzing the data that the pathfinder team has is essential to determining if the new world has potential for success.    Detailed information must be gained over a period of at least four weeks for accurate analysis.

 

DOCUMENTATION, STATISTICAL

- Bullet Journal; keep track of all important factors for analysis.

Daily: Food, exercise, health stats.

Daily: To do, appointments, reminders.

Weekly:  Goals, calendar, upcoming events.

Weekly:  Upload picture to database of exploration progress with a positive commendation. 

 

DOCUMENTATION, ARTISTICAL

- Art; Per Week Total of 5 Days

MangaStudio Work - 3x

Sketches, detailed or doodled - 2x

Tutorial Work - Search for online classes, books, youtube channels.

 

- D&D Campaign; weekly progress required.

 

[The reading the bible and daily Tank-inspired affirmations are no longer goals... because they are habits.   I do them without thinking now and do not need to keep track of them in a journal, or as a challenge goal because I have done both, almost to perfection, since October of last year!  The art is almost there, but the D&D work needs to be mentally reminded.  Want to keep up with, and get better with, the BuJo.  I think this could turn into a really good long term resource.   A return of an oldie but goodie, is the self-love pic with affirmation.   Remind me on this one guys!]

 

In addition to the daily/weekly goals, I will be posting a list of things I'd like to work on getting done over the next four weeks.  I will likely put that into the second post, along with more concise outline of goals and things to track.   But, with the basics figured out.   Let's get to work.

Following! When I saw your title said "Pathfinder" I thought it was the tabletop roleplaying game. LOL. Love the sci fi aspect to your challenge!

Echoing Oramac.  This is awesome and something I've struggled with for a very long time.  I hope you get there. 

 

ME3 has been sitting on my dresser for like 3 years waiting to be played.  I really need to get it done so I can check out Andromeda.

It very well could have been Pathfinder.  I am a super RPG nerd.  My last theme was all about Critical Role!    I've never played Pathfinder; started with AD&D, then 3e, 3.5 brief foray into 4th (terrible) and we're firmly rooted in 5e.   Plus, White Wolf games, Fantasy Flight's Warhammer Fantasy, as well as their 40k line, and an going Star Wars Force and Destiny!     I really really should play Pathfinder at some point!!  

 

The theme is based off of Bioware's new Mass Effect game, that releases Tuesday!!!

I am too!  Well, I was... today, Day 1 Eve, I am panicking.    Sunday's are SO hard for me to begin with, because going out to breakfast before church with the trio, then heading to friends house because her kiddos love us and keep begging us to come over after church, then left over corned beef and cabbage, then gaming night?!  OH GOSH.   I had NO time to pre-prep ANYTHING.   But, I just gotta get over the hump.

 

Soooo guys.   I got super toasty and went on a cleaning spree with my sister today.    The house looks great.   And we had so much fun.   But holy smokes it left me no time to get stuff ready for start of challenge.  I think I will count tomorrow as the start, but ease into the food part of it.   Basically, I am going to have the oatmeal at McDonald's instead of the other junk.   I'll have a banana after church.   Lots of cabbage with the left overs, whip up those chili lime snap peas to snack on at the gaming table, maybe get a raw veggie tray too.   Then an orange or some other sweet fruit for the sweet cravings after.   I might not get the perfect 5 servings, but I can get more than I normally would on a Sunday.    I am also going to try and get a bodyweight workout in too.  Because Monday I am heading to a hockey clinic.    Oi,   Week 1 craziness.

Pathfinder is very close to 3 & 3.5 D&D. I kinda got tired of trying to keep up with editions and buying more and more books. When 4th ed came out, I was like "screw this, let's go to Pathfinder" and I've stuck there ever since for medieval fantasy. LOL

 

I also play White Wolf, Palladium Heroes, and Shadowrun. 

 

If you're already ensconced in 5e D&D, I would say stick with that rather than going into Pathfinder. 

 

I actually have never played a Mass Effect game. It looked fun though!

A quick google search seems to suggest the Trilogy is available on Playstation. (Not sure how compatibility works if you are on a PS4, vs the PS3 it seems to have been released for originally.)   It's also PC friendly.   And I have only ever played Bioware titles on PC.

So.   Weekend recap is... um.   Drunken house cleaning Saturday meant no challenge prep for Sunday start.   I couldn't prep on Sunday (really) because church, friends house, dinner, gaming, in rapid fire succession.   That equated to a temper tantrum of frustration where I pigged out on Sunday night and have the gut rot to show for it today.    It also means, that despite my original intent to start on Sunday (actual challenge day)- I will actually be starting today.    To quote my NF twin.

Things I did get done, somehow, on Sunday:

Batch cooked a bunch of sauteed green beans as snacks so as to up my veggie count.

Tried those egg-bake cupcake liner, breakfast things.

Pre-sauteed (lightly) some spinace, to throw into my 'microwave scrambled eggs' at work.

 

So, despite rotten stomach today, I am at least on the right track.

So, I finished the day with 4 veggies and 2 fruits!  Holy crap, so much produce.   (And my gut wasn't happy to start the day off, now it is downright pissed!)

  • 1/2 cup blackberries with breakfast, and my egg cups had some spinach in it.
  • Half a cucumber (which equated to a full cup of slices) with some hummus (which I get to count toward part of a serving, so it, and the spinach make "1".
  • 1 cup of my sauteed green beans as a snack, and I had a Dannon Activia yogurt an hour later to hopefully solve my stomach groaning.
  • Dinner was eggplant parmesan, which equated to 1 cup worth of delicious eggplant-ness.
  • After hockey, I had a banana with peanut butter.

I also managed to do a bit of art before/after dinner and before I had to leave for hockey.    A neat thing happened tonight.    I had a sketch I began in my sketchbook, of what will become my newest character.  Kessa the human assassin/hunter for our D&D game.  (She'll be rogue 6, ranger 7, and then maybe a spattering of other things if we get that far.)   So, this sketched drawing, the head, face turned out JUST how I wanted it to, but I tried to put it on a body that would have had her looking over her left shoulder.   No amount of tweaking things was fixing it.  It just looked wrong.   So.   I selected the head, copied it, and pasted it onto its own canvas, and then... for the first time ever, I just sketched her body IN Manga Studio.   I snagged a reference pose from a pic of Anri from Durarara, but then switched up the hands a bit.    Super rough beginnings, but this is new territory for me and it's pretty neat!

Then I had hockey.  

O M G.

 

It's an adult skills clinic, and my friend/teammate runs it.  After warm ups, she divided everyone into beginner, middle and high group.    I have not been to this clinic in years and years and had no idea the range of skill, so asked her where.  She puts me in high.     Only girl in the high group, other than my goalie friend.    First drill?  One on one board battles.  >.<    Dudes.  So big.  So strong.   Starpuck so out of hockey shape.   Whimper.      I am going to be feeling it all tomorrow - but hey, all I got going is some Andromeda and some bodyweight strength work.   It was a good time, and every time I get on the ice, I feel so good.   I dunno why lately it has been so hard to get me out the door and TO THE ICE.    Ended up burning almost 800 calories in the hour long clinic.    Not that it matters, since I am not counting calories right now.   But um.    For SURE I am at deficit today.

 

Ok.    Sleep time.  Because tomorrow!    I AM THE PATHFINDER!

Good lookin drawing!  I think the left arm is a little wonky (too short maybe??), but otherwise it's looking fantastic!  The head/face is killer.  

 

Sounds like you have Hockey Therapy in the same way @RisenPhoenix has Mat Therapy.  That is a good thing.  

 

I'm putting off starting Andromeda to try to get some shit done this morning and IT'S KILLING ME!!!!!!!!

If you're already ensconced in 5e D&D, I would say stick with that rather than going into Pathfinder. 

Pathfinder is lovingly called 3.75 D&d and it's just that, an improved version of 3.5 you don't really need if you're already into 5E. Though i've come to appreciate the grimdark tones of Pathfinder's default setting from what little I've read.

I would agree.  I've played a little bit of Pathfinder, and after having also played 5e, I see no reason at all to go back to it.  IMO, 5e is the best version of D&D I've played (AD&D, 3.5/Pathfinder, 5e).
