Bench Presses- Incline, Decline and Flat

Recommended Posts

Interesting situation here, my gym does not have a Smiths machine or a flat bench with which to bench press. They do however have non-adjustable Incline and Decline benches. Any ideas on the impact this may have over time? Should I split my time equally on both or focus on one or the other? Advantages and Disadvantages of both?

My first advice is to find a different gym. What kind of place has incline/decline benches but no flat bench?

Since that's not always possible...

It depends on your goals. If you want to do powerlifting meets (wherein you'll be benching with a barbell on a flat bench) then you're screwed. If you want to gain muscle and/or strength it's quite possible with what you've got but will obviously be somewhat hampered by the lack of equipment. I'd recommend doing both, though, so as not to create any imbalances.
