Hi,

I'm a dude looking for like-minded individuals.  I like nerdy stuff like video games, movies, comic books, dungeons and dragons, and martial arts.  I'm 5'10" and I'm 250 lbs and I'm looking to lose  bunch of weight and eventually be around 180ish.  I live in Southern California.  I am a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  I've also done Muay Thai for about five years.  I'm not huge on weightlifting, but I want to lift weights more to get toned up and also to improve my performance in Jiu-Jitsu.

So yeah, Hi!

Hey MBee,

welcome. I think there are quite a few people here with the same inclinations towards d&d and martial arts and such. That said I don't see that many bjj people it seems. Am also a blue belt training out of a renzo g affiliate here. Re wgts - made a HUGE diff to my bjj in terms of injury proofing so give it a shot.

Welcome! I just wanted to toss something out there.... I've read a lot about Metabolic Resistance Training (MRT) lately. It's apparently the best known way to build muscle and lose fat. MRT is kind of like HIIT (high intensity interval training) only you don't just do a bunch of cardio back to back. You do weight workouts, whether free weights or body weight, but you do your sets with minimal rest between to keep your heart rate going. It's also recommended that you do compound exercises that work several muscle groups with one move (like squats), rather than single-muscle exercises that only work one muscle group at a time. And of course, the more muscle you have, the higher your basal metabolic rate, and the more calories you burn while you're just sitting around playing D&D.

Just my two cents. =)

=)
