I certainly hope so.  My sleep habits have improved dramatically though.  I no longer have all the caffeine keeping me up in a fog even though I'm tired.  I get tired and I am ready for sleep!  Of course, my productivity has taken a serious hit.

Whole30 Day5

Breakfast: 1/2 banana with cashew butter, the other half banana with strawberries and paleo granola

Lunch: 2 over easy eggs over homemade turkey sausage, veggie hash

Snack: apple and a bit of almond butter 

DInner: coconut milk braised chicken with fresh thyme, mashed cauliflower (and a bit of potato), steamed carrots and peas

evening snack: grapes and bacon!! :D 

 

I had a session with my trainer. I haven't had the energy or state of mind to do my darebee workouts since Day 1 so  I was a bit worried about energy levels and flaring up the headaches.  It was a tough workout but no tougher than it would have been normally.  He was just at a certification the day before so he could train at my gym's version of crossfit.  He was very enthusiastic. I survived but my hunger soon was out of hand.  I ate as planned after my workout but then had to have dinner quite earlier because I was famished.  Then I was still hungry so I made some bacon and had that with some grapes.  It's a fantastic snack.

I am starting to feel more human again so this is a good thing.  But i was extremely tired most of the day.  I had 2 days worth of prep to catch up on and I managed about half a day's worth. :( It's going to be a rough week.  The good news though is that I went to bed in time for another 8 hours of sleep.  That's about 4 days in a row. (Technically Friday I only got 5 but I slept in half the day so I think it still counts). 

It's the end of the week and I haven't managed a Darebee workout since Day 1.  I now have 4 days to make up.  As long as I don't lose any more days I should be able to make that up in no time.

I just finished reading the Whole30 book, so it is super interesting to hear how this is going for you so far! Keep up the good work!

I haven't read the book. I didn't have time so I researched their website only.  Hopefully I'm not missing anything..

I think all the info is on their website anyway. The book is 1/2 recipes. The only two things I've seen so far that might be worth keeping in mind...

  • Most bacon is cured with sugar, which makes it not-W30. Sugar free bacon does exist, but can be hard to find. 
  • They advise against creating any compliant "treats" by doing things that involve putting dates in a blender, 2 ingredient pancakes, etc.

I did actually go out and buy W30 bacon.  I already buy a few things at my local Whole Foods so it was easy to find.  However, if I am eating out I will not worry about ordering 'regular' bacon.  The fake compliant treats is on the website too.  SWPO - sex with your pants on food.  I am trying to avoid those although I have a recipe for a sweet potato muffin that I kind of want to try.

 The fake compliant treats is on the website too.  SWPO - sex with your pants on food.  I am trying to avoid those although I have a recipe for a sweet potato muffin that I kind of want to try.

Whole30 Day6 (20% complete!)

Breakfast: 1/2 banana with cashew butter, the other half banana with strawberries and paleo granola

I experimented with bringing over easy eggs to work.  It mostly worked.  I broke 1 yolk when I cooked and packaged it.  That yolk cooked solid once I reheated it.  The other one worked splendidly and lunch was very tasty.  About an hour later my stomach didn't feel that great and I got suddenly worried about all the recommendations not to reheat over easy eggs.  It didn't amount to anything and I've prepared it again for today.  Hopefully I am not just playing russian roulette.  Other than that, it was pretty decent day.  I had a bit of a headache in the morning but it worked itself out.  I did have a bit of tea in the morning.  

Athena's Playbook yoga workout happened.  I didn't have time to do any make up workouts.  I did manage to get a lot of school prep done at work, but that also meant I got less actual work done.

I have finally just completed the very last class prep and assignment for 2 of the 3 classes I am teaching.  I am way behind on grading but it feels great to know I don't have that prep work left.  The remaining class has only 2 more sessions after tonight that I need to prep for.. and for one of those sessions we are watching a movie. ;)

Another successful day.  I set myself up to be really hungry and didn't have any emergency food.  Since I had class last night, supper is delayed.  I usually bring something extra but I didn't even think about it yesterday. I just had to suck it up and get through class.  I was famished when I got home and snarfed my food.  I was ready for bed shortly after that. Tuesday is a rest day so no workout.

W30 actually made this easier.  There is no bargaining, no 'I'll just have a candy bar today and it will work out', no 'I'll just have a little bit to hold me over', no convincing myself I can stop for pizza.  I either prepare something compliant and bring it myself or I wait until I have access to something.  I thought about stopping somewhere to look for a compliant snack but that ran the risk of not finding something and then being barraged with other indulgences so I just skipped it.  It's kind of freeing.

I'd have to be pretty desperate for rice cakes to taunt me.  I bought those Larabars for this purpose but since I didn't like the first one I've been ignoring the others. I am yet to get out to the store for some RX or Epic bars.

Whole30 Day8

Breakfast: fresh peach and blueberries with paleo granola 

Lunch: 2 over easy eggs over homemade turkey sausage, veggie hash

DInner: coconut milk braised chicken with fresh thyme, mashed cauliflower (and a bit of potato), steamed carrots and peas

Evening Snack: W30 bacon, veg hash, and 1 over easy egg.

 

I had some tea just before lunchtime and it held off my hunger for quite a long time.  I can use this to my advantage.  I ended up skipping my snack since I ate lunch late but then was famished at the end of the day.  I finished off the Whole30 bacon I had with some extra veg hash and cooked up an egg.  It was a perfect snack.  

It's been just over a week and I  have a confession to make.  I have been weighing every day because I just can't help it.  It's tough to say how much I've lost becuase I was all over the place right before I started W30.  Technically, I've lost 10 pounds since day 1.  But I had an unexpected carrot cake related weight surge in the days leading up to Day 1. Compared to where I was just before Easter weekend I am down 3.  It has stabilized this week but my gut has been re-adjusting to the new food and it's shark week so I don't really have any expectations.  I do know that since W30 I am no longer stuck in that cycle of gaining a bit over the weekend and then recovering during the week.  I will have to put a lot thought into how to make these habits sustainable once I finish W30.

Whole30 Day9

Breakfast: strawberries and half a banana with paleo granola 

Lunch: 2 over easy eggs over homemade turkey sausage, veggie hash

Snack: celery and cashew butter, carrots, grapes, almonds

DInner: coconut milk braised chicken with fresh thyme, mashed cauliflower (and a bit of potato), steamed carrots and peas

 

I was getting nervous about the reheated runny yolks so I experimented with cooking the eggs fresh as I reheated the sausage and hash.  It worked decently except the microwave I used doesn't have a spinny thing so while I was waiting and waiting for one of the eggs to cook properly, the other egg's yolk was no longer runny. :( It made for a dry meal.  It wasn't until much too far into the cooking process did I think to turn that damn dish around.  So today I'll use a different microwave.  I have high hopes. 

Athena's playbook workout 9 completed - cardio.  This involved 30 burpees, thankfully not all at once.  I am not really caring for these workouts.  They make me feel fat and clumsy.  However, my pants are fitting better and that makes me feel quite lovely.

Of course you do.  

I committed to doing this Darebee Program and I want to stick it out.  Really what I am trying to get out of it is the make it a priority again and get used to scheduling something in 6 days a week plus at least be doing something.  I'll stick it out if for nothing else but stubbornness.

I think sticking to something you're not enjoying because of stubbornness is actually really great way of training your motivation and willpower because depending on the strength of feeling towards it, you have something to compare other things you don't want to do in the future. Anything that you don't want to do less strongly than this is easily overcome, and everything you don't want to do more strongly, you're already mentally part way there because of your "training". 

 

This is how I look at this crap anyway.
