This challenge I'm going to work my butt off!

When I use phrases like this, I always check with google whether or not it means what I think it means. It does btw. In America that is. In England they work their socks off for some reason :P In the Netherlands we work yourselves three strokes around ("drie slagen in de rondte")

My first quest has everything to do with food and will change during the challenge. 

I'm reading this book 'The slow down diet'. It's very druid-y (druid like?) it combines the power of the mind with the science around food. Every week I read the next chapter with the assignment for the the week after. The first one I did last week, it entailed paying attention to your food. Slow down while eating. Relax.

 

Quest 1: Eat right

Week -1: Relax while eating, slow down, breath 

Week 0: Focus on quality

Every time I make a decision about what to eat, whether it is making lunch, grocery shopping, going out for dinner etc. I make the best possible choice. This can mean no sugar, organic, home made, given to me by someone I love or just the healthiest option. 

As you see this is quite broad, but it will force me to think about what I'm eating, and make me wager my options.

Week 1: Pay attention

Pay attention to my food, so my mind knows I've eaten something. According to the book this way I will digest my food better, absorb more nutrients, and my mind won't be asking for more after I've already eaten. 

 

Quest 2: Work out

Due to being sick and other excuses I haven't made zumba class in two weeks! I know, shocking. And I'm having withdraw symptoms like starting to move whenever music is playing, or even when I've got a song in my head. 

My goal will be to attent at least 2 zumba classes a week, preferably three.

 

Quest 3: Work

I now have two businesses and I'm keeping my eyes open for a job that I'll like. Something that makes me happy while making money, or at least happy 80% of the time, because no job makes you happy all the time ;) 

I will work on my business and/or apply to jobs I like every day. 

Some days I'll only be able to work for 30 minutes, and other days I'll make 6 hours and that's okay. Because I also have my kids, a household to run, volunteer work, exercise and a husband who wants some attention now and then ;)

Your challenge is awesome, btw. Let me know if I can support you in any way. I'm with the Adventurer's guild, but I do a lot of yoga and meditation, so I like checking in on the Druids, as well.

I can see you mean some kind of innuendo here. But that really doesn't work anymore once translated to Dutch :P

Thanks! And thanks for the offer. I love meditation, but for some reason I can't stick to it. After a few days I'm bored. I've tried guided meditations, music meditations and silent ones. Do you have a tip to make it more interesting?

Week 0, day 1

It's second Easter day here. I don't know whether or not other countries have that too. It's a bank holiday, so all of us where home. We relaxed, watched movies and played board games. It was a great day :) 

 

Quest 1: Eat right

Week -1: Relax while eating, slow down, pay attention to your food 

Done.

Week 0: Focus on quality

I enjoyed some leftovers from lunch at MIL yesterday (she insisted we bring some stuff with us), but only ate the stuff I really, really like. 

Dinner was marvelous: spare ribs, corncobs (boiled) and homemade fries from the oven. So yes, I ate the highest quality I could get today.

 

Quest 2: Work out

Nothing planned today. 

 

Quest 3: Work

I did my taxes today (for my first company Diaper Design), and worked on a direct mail campaign for my new company (cyber assistant). It's forbidden in the Netherlands to send marketing e-mails to people you don't have permission to e-mail. So I have to send out snail mail. 

I bought a list that gave me the contact information of small business in my town so I can send them the letter. I attached the excell list to the word file (never done that before) and it works like a charm :D I love learning new tricks :D

Setting really matters to me. I have to be someplace quiet and without distractions, preferably in nature. Lately, I've sat in the bottom floor of the university library because no one ever comes down there and the only distractions I have are dusty old books about philosophy and religion. I also use an app called Insight Timer and I search for what might interest me at that point. There are also thousands of meditations on Youtube with videos.

 

The thing most people misinterpret about meditation is that there is no right or wrong, especially if you're a beginner or if you struggle with it. Life is full of distractions, and meditation is about mindfulness, focusing on just one thing at a time, rather than swimming in the chaos trying to focus on everything at once. So in a sense I'm meditating right now. So if you struggle to sit still, try mindful walking: feel your feet touch the ground, pay attention to specific things (objects, colors, patterns). Don't try to focus on everything, but walk with a goal like "I'm going to notice everything that's green." You can change it up on your next walk. Or you could try just listening to your breath. One of my favorite things is to just take about 30 seconds-1 minute to check in with my body: I hold my right hand over my heart and my left hand over my belly and just feel my breath and my heartbeat.

This is really helpful!

 

My biggest problem is that when meditating I either start making to-do lists in my head, or create a fantasy world with lots of adventure :D Both are not very relaxing and I notice my body tensing up when I do that. I have no trouble keeping my body still, but the mindfull walk does seem very nice. I might try it some time.

 

I have found lots of video's on youtube. I really like the honest guys. And I will try the app, thanks :) 

 

And more suggestions are welcome when you have the time :)

Week 0, day 2

Back to work today. I got a lot of stuff done!

 

Quest 1: Eat right

Week -1: Relax while eating, slow down, pay attention to your food 

Payed extra attention on eating slowly. 

Week 0: Focus on quality

Could have been better, but could have been worse. I need to focus on eating more freggies. 

 

Quest 2: Work out

ZUMBA :D 

It was tough, but so much FUN!!! 

 

Quest 3: Work

Worked a bit on the letter I'm going to send to business so they'll employ me, and worked a few hours behind the sowing machine for my other business.

It was a productive day.

Week 0, day 3

So sore from zumba yesterday! But a good kind of sore :)

I wen swimming with J this morning. He has been giving me a hard time during his swimming lessons, so I brought some toys and made up games with them. Like carrying bath ducks to the other side of the pool on his chest, throwing balls and swimming towards them to catch them. And when we had practiced enough and I let him play freely he asked me "Aren't we going to practice?" :D:D:D Missing accomplished ;)

It was hard today, I was tired from zumba yesterday and swimming this morning. But I did my best.

More freggies happened :D 

 

Quest 2: Work out

No zumba class today. And I just realized I can't make it to zumba class tomorrow :( A has to go to the pediatrician for a routine checkup because of his allergies. Maybe I can make it Friday. 

 

Quest 3: Work

I'm making the cutest minnie mouse carrier at the moment! It has minnie mouse ears and a bow on top of the sleeping hood (you put that on the baby when it falls asleep and attach it to the shoulders so the head won't roll around when you move).

Turning a job into a game reminded me of Marry Poppins.
