imprimis5 gets hitched

Recommended Posts

Hey, everyone! I'm really liking this method of splitting my challenges up into longer things that I build up to and shorter things that I do regularly. So I'm going to it again for this challenge! There are a couple big ones that I'm really excited to put down, too.

Big Picture Challenges

  • Get Married: That's right. My wedding is on May 17th, just a few days before the end of the challenge. Seems like a worthwhile goal! There are still a few things to do in preparation for it, anwyay, so it's a good thing I've got this challenge to keep me on it.
    • Get marriage license.
      • Satisfy personal curiosity as to whether we'll be asked if we're related, like marriages between different-sex couples. We're not related, just to get out ahead of that one.
    • Make preparations for post-wedding game night.
      • What games?
      • What snacks?
      • Is my boss actually providing the beer like he said?
    • Get rings?
      • Are we getting rings?
      • What rings do we want?
    • Make it all legal.
  • Run Warrior Dash: This will be over long before the end of the challenge, but it's still worth putting here. On April 29th, I'll get muddy and surmount obstacles while I run a 5k to get to beer.
    • Train for obstacles.
    • Train for running.
    • Train for beer.
  • Log meals: Continuing with this tradition. Going to try something new this time, too. I've not historically tracked calories, but I'd like to get back into it. So I'm going to give a calorie count of the meal I'm eating. I don't really have a particular calorie goal right now, but this should at least give me an idea of what I'm eating.

Week 0 Monday Update

Let's get things started off, shall we?

First of all, let's talk about this weekend. I haven't had this productive of a weekend in a while. Home looks as clean as the day we moved in (ok, maybe that's an exaggeration, but whatever). I cooked something way different for my lunches this week. I went to the gym. I hung out with friends (which doesn't happen near as much as it should). My other half was under the weather with really awful allergies, so I took care of taking the dogs out and such. In general, I was feeling great. Even had some time to play video games and finish the most recent Dresden Files novel (Good gods, it was good. The best one in a while.).

And now it's back to work. I feel really good about work this week. If you're just now tuning in, I struggle with and am medicated for moderate-to-severe GAD (general anxiety disorder), and it recently came to light that my job is an anxiety trigger for me, for unknown specific reasons. But I have lots of energy right now, I'm feeling great, and I'm going to use it like crazy to get caught up after the weekend.

Going to the gym for a session with my trainer after work today. I'm super curious about the new plan he's worked up. It sounds pretty different. We'll see.

Big Picture Challenges

      • Satisfy personal curiosity as to whether we'll be asked if we're related, like marriages between different-sex couples. We're not related, just to get out ahead of that one.
      • Go to the courthouse and pick it up.
    • Make preparations for post-wedding game night.
      • What games?
        • Right now, it's mostly going to be social games (Two Rooms and a Boom, Codenames, etc.)
      • What snacks?
      • Is my boss actually providing the beer like he said?
    • Get rings?
      • Are we getting rings?
        • Right now, the answer is "probably?"
      • What rings do we want?
        • It's been hard to find what we want. Geeky without being a specific fandom. Not too crazy pricey. Not tacky. Sturdy, like, for a lifetime.
      • Order them.
    • Make it all legal.
      • Short ceremony, then game night.
  • Run Warrior Dash: This will be over long before the end of the challenge, but it's still worth putting here. On April 29th, I'll get muddy and surmount obstacles while I run a 5k to get to beer.
    • Train for obstacles.
      • I've been doing strength training like I always do, and I'm sure that'll transfer in part. But I really need to start looking at the specific obstacles and training for them.
    • Train for running.
      • With the issues I've been having with my piriformis, I've been nervous about this. But I'm not sure that's not just an excuse not to run.
    • Train for beer.
      • It's a tough job, but I'm up for the challenge.
I'm still eating mostly paleo, but I've been giving myself a little leeway since my weight is in good order.
    • Note: Anything in bold is not paleo.
    • Yesterday breakfast: Starbucks bacon gouda egg bite things
      • Calories: 310
    • Lunch: Ground beef and onion, glazed carrots
      • Calories: 295
    • Dinner: Ground beef and onion, raw carrots
      • Calories: 375
    • Snacks: Almonds, 90% chocolate, hard cider
      • Calories: 390

Little Picture Challenges

  • Run 1-4 miles 1x a week.
  • Gym 6x a week.
    • Rowing, Bulgarian split squats, dumbbell row, bench press, pull-ups
  • Yoga every night.
    • Tried out NF Yoga Star A last night. That wasn't so bad!

Are the rings important to you guys? If not, maybe just get some kind of very simple ring for now (can't go too wrong with a plain metal band).

They're not especially important to me, honestly. It'd be neat, but I'm not stressed at all. My fiance is the main driver here, and even he isn't super gung ho. All in all, we've decided that if we're going to do them, we're going to get the ones we like the best regardless of whether we have them by the wedding or not.

Week 0 Tuesday Update

Good morning!

I woke up this morning to a gorgeous brighter-than-expected spring day, and it has me feeling really nice. Makes me want to get out in it... after sitting at my desk at work for hours. Le sigh.

Today's my standard rest day. So who knows what I'll do. I do know that I need to make a trip to the grocery store and that I'm going to bake some almond flour bread. I'd normally say that I'd take my husky on a long walk, but she's feeling kinda sick. Sick enough that I didn't feel comfortable taking her to daycare today. I guess we'll just play it by ear!

Big Picture Challenges

  • Get Married: That's right. My wedding is on May 17th, just a few days before the end of the challenge. Seems like a worthwhile goal! There are still a few things to do in preparation for it, anwyay, so it's a good thing I've got this challenge to keep me on it.

    • Train for obstacles.
      • My trainer said that he'd help me on this. I just need to get a list of the obstacles.
    • Train for running.
      • Maybe I'll go running today. I want to take it easy, though.
    • Train for beer.
      • I had an Angry Orchard Old Fashioned hard cider last night. While not technically beer, I'll count it.
• Dinner: Ground beef and onion, Brussels sprouts
      • Calories: 220
    • Snacks: hard cider, banana with almond butter
      • Calories: 405

Little Picture Challenges

  • Run 1-4 miles 1x a week.
  • Gym 6x a week.
    • A bunch of stuff with my trainer. Mostly legs and shoulders. We were going to do straight-leg deadlifts, but this hurt my hip in unimaginable ways.
  • Yoga every night.
    • Needed a shorter session last night, so I used a sun salutation from another yoga program I use. It was a seven minute thing with a decent variety of poses.

This is why I frequently spend a little longer in the warehouse than is strictly necessary for my job. We usually keep at least one dock door open on especially nice (or especially rainy) days.

They almost never announce the exact obstacles that will be there until at or very near race day, but the WD obstacles page should get you going in the right direction.

By my count that's about 1180 cals.  That......seems really low for a whole day.

You're not wrong. My lunches are a little smaller this week than they normally are. Not because I planned it that way, but because I miscalculated when I was prepping on Sunday. Gonna try to boost it with a little beef jerky in the afternoon, rather than adding something to my lunch.

Also, I'm likely miscalculating something somewhere. If I were eating that few calories, I'd almost certainly feel far hungrier than I do. I'll do some closer looking.

Yeah. I make damned sure that I spend my lunch break outside of the building and in the fresh air.

Week 0 Wednesday Update

Another early morning for me. I decided to wake up just a little before 5 today because the husky wouldn't shut up. She's been a little sick lately, though, so I didn't want to run the risk that she needed to really go outside. Turns out she was just ready to be up and about. So I was too.

I've been using this extra time to get more stuff done while I don't have other people in the office, with mixed results. It's been a little hard to concentrate this morning. Ah well.

Mainly, I'm hoping to get home for a nap before boot camp tonight. A nap sounds nice.

Week 0 Thursday Update

It was hard for me to buckle down and do this for today. Not entirely certain why. It just feels overwhelming. Maybe it's because I'm not happy with how some things are going.

Maybe I'm feeling empty because I just completed yet another watch-through of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. An emptiness that not even the supremely weird Season 8 comic can fill. At least I have the cold comfort of Angel, also known as "Aging Is Hard On Vampire Actors." Oh, and the Buffy board game that I played last night with some friends.

Week 0 Friday Update

I've made it to Friday! This week wasn't so bad, so it feels like less of an accomplishment than it has lately.

I picked up some new snacks! Behold!

C93-cA5UQAAccyc.jpg:large

Back when I lived near Purdue University (and later attended myself), I used to enjoy going to the annual Bug Bowl. The thing I always took away from it was the delightful snacks. Cockroach brownies, cricket cookies, etc. I ate so many bugs. And then I stopped. Well, I'm back at it. Yum! I wouldn't mind doing some baking again, if I can find a decent, relatively cheap source of cricket flour, too.

Big Picture Challenges

    • Get marriage license.
      • Well, I know where and when to go to the Recorder of Deeds, at least. We're gonna do this in advance so as to get out of the courthouse as early as possible on the day.
    • Make preparations for post-wedding game night.
      • A bunch of large group games arrived yesterday! Codenames, Codenames Pictures, Codenames Deep Undercover (the adult version), Spyfall 2, and Two Rooms and a Boom. I already have a few others at home that can join these.
    • Get rings?
      • My fiance has confirmed that this is his task.
    • Make it all legal.
  • Run Warrior Dash: This will be over long before the end of the challenge, but it's still worth putting here. On April 29th, I'll get muddy and surmount obstacles while I run a 5k to get to beer.

      • Calories: 535

Little Picture Challenges

  • Run 1-4 miles 1x a week.
  • Gym 6x a week.
    • Gym by myself. Really good workout, though I'm noticing that I'm having a little trouble pushing myself to increase weight. The psychological struggle is more intense than the physical struggle right now.
  • Yoga every night.
    • I started and noticed my back was hurting pretty bad. Didn't wanna risk it.

So, here's the secret: they don't taste any different than any other energy bar that happens to be composed primarily of dates. They just happen to have a higher protein content. If you like dates, you'll like them, probably. If you don't, you won't.

I'm sure they'll be fine :)   Honestly it's the sheer cost of them around here that put me off most of all. Horrifically expensive.

They're not cheap here, either. It's close to $4 for one bar, and that alone will keep me from doing it too much.
