The Unbreakable Miss Marissa

Hi I’m Marissa. I lift things (poorly), do gymnastics (poorly) and read a lot of DC comics (not poorly, I'm really good at this one). These are my ramblings. Thanks for tuning in.

 

Same shit more or less. The unbreakable theme kind of winds into everything though.

 

Obviously, I was broken the past few weeks (SI issues... stupid hips). So I need to take better care of my muscles, joints and connective tissues. I was really good at foam rolling and stretching and stuff before I moved (lol like a year and a half ago) and since then I’ve been injured TWICE. So… I need to do more there to strengthen my weaknesses and take care of myself so I don’t get broken. Again. My lifting program is a lot of unilateral work and movements outside of the sagittal plane to hopefully help with better quality movement when I do things aside from barbell back squats, so I don’t injure myself by muscling through things I’m not ready for…. You know, like back tucks. -_-  And drink water, because that always helps and I don’t do enough of that. Unbreakable goals indicated with a *

 

1) Fitness

Move your body in some way minimum 5x/week. Moving includes lifting, gymnastics, handstands, yoga (longer than 15 minutes), the dreaded cardio, or taking more than 7k steps in a day, per my watch thing.

2) Read

Most days. Don’t have a number in mind, but I know if it’s a goal, it happens. If not, it doesn’t.

3) Work on dat morning routine.

This is like 90% a habit… but I still want to keep it here for this challenge.

 

Do these things for sure:

☐Turn off phone when I go to bed and use a different alarm clock.

☐Prep breakfasts

☐Pick out outfit/jewelry etc night before

☐Pack gym back night before

☐ Drink a glass of water before I can have coffee/tea in the a.m.* (new goal)

☐ Morning yoga*

 

Considering a 4th... still TBD

 

Also, keep trying to be mindful about things. Reading, movement, eating, work (srsly get off ur damn phone)

Ummmm Monday I did gymnastics things. I tried to work on a baseline of some of my "easier" tricks that need improvement instead of constantly trying to do new shit. Here is a side by side of back handsprings. Also worked on Monday front handspring to 2 feet and front tuck (lol no, didn't happen) and handstand/headstand/crow pose. From now on I'm just going to refer to that as "balance work" because otherwise it is exhausting.

 

 

 

Tuesday I did BACK SQUATS FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE MY COMPETITION IN JANUARY (I think... might have done them once since then).

I squatted to a low box + 2 plates. 115x10 and they were not totally terrible and my SI joint did not flare up and I think I am on the mend \o/ And then other things lunges, reverse hyper, core and skater squats. #doyourdamnabs

Glutes and quads are on fire today.

 

Nerd up after for pizza and arcade games and met a new nerd (hiiiiiiii @Mistr )
