I'm late to the game so there may be info I'm missing, but why do your parents have a say in this?

Quick recap: I'm a recent college grad still looking for a better job than the retail on I currently have. I can't afford to live on my own and will be even less in so once student loans kick in a few months from now. So I'm living with my parents until I can find a better job and have proper financial standing. They're the type of people who have good intentions but are quick to berate. I'm sorta in a pre-fairy god mother cinderella situation.

WEEK 1 DAY 3

Yay for unproductive days!

tumblr_o1fsz3x2xp1urwa0vo1_500.gif

I spent the majority of the day trying to get through an online training video on time management. Even though it's three hours long, there are ten chapters with at least three to ten videos ranging from 2 to ten minutes. Plus the video system has a bad buffering system that takes too long. and at the end of each chapter, you are asked to "take time" to clear certain things such as your workspace, living space, paper clutter, emails, etc. This sort of thing is similar to multitasking or switch tasking which is discouraged in each chapter. But hey, at least I can say I'm certified with time management. And thanks to the training video I finished my laundry, uncluttered my closet, and have a physical inbox for all the clutter I start accumulating

I worked out yesterday so today was my rest day. I have some minor DOMS in my arms from the punching portion of my workout with the "superhero" app. I not checking walking the dog as a workout, but more of a perimeter sweep of the cul-de-sac of any Shadow Organization agents or bugs (rising heroes reference).

giphy.gif

I'm giving myself the benefit of the doubt and checking off the create your own plate goal. I had more leftovers for lunch today. My lunch consisted of brisket minus the fat and quinoa. I know that quinoa is a seed that if left alone turns into a leafy veggie, but is also has some good carbs and protein. So win win for me.

quinoa is always a win in my book. I don't love it but I think it's great for us. ;)

WEEK 1 DAY 4

Another day, another existence. (or some profound deepity)

d39380e2b5410af317b60cef17d9e1cd.jpg

I spent my last off day from work doing my off day routine. I worked out, showered, did an Aztec mud facial, a lululu face mask because one face self-care act is not enough for me. I like to go that extra mile. Had breakfast which is the normal black coffee, scrambled eggs, and plain greek yogurt with honey. I finished at three training videos today; time management, ending procrastination, and powerpoint. Now recruiters will have to choice, but to accept the fact I'm qualified in things and have moe than likely wasted my time in acquiring those fake internet points.

tenor.gif

I dolled myself up today for a facebook invite for dinner with a lot of fam members only to find that everyone had canceled except my stepmom, stepsister, and their mom/grandma. It was like looking at three generations and being the unnecessary fourth wheel only needed to get a second free meal on a BOGO deal. It was an enjoyable evening though. We had caesar salads, chicken primavera, and chocolate molten cake with red wine. After dessert, I played around with a text based chose-your-own-adventure where you're a dragon. And after a few minutes, I found out I'm not that great at being a dragon.

tenor.gif

I took my dog for an evening perimeter check of the neighboring area. We didn't find any Shadow Organization agents or walkers. It was a chill night and I was debriefed thru the serial podcast about "the other president." I learn more in one podcast from serial about the outside world through their stories and journalism skills than I would during a semester where I sneak into a college classroom, sit in the back the room, and eavesdrop on a professor's lecture, feining enrollment.

Hey, maybe that info will hide in your brain noodles and become useful at a later point.

That is the trouble with being a human. A human is not a dragon.

Thanks! I like to think of myself as a self-proclaimed (amateur) comedian after listening to hours of the podcast two dope queens. I also come from a long line of jokesters so it must be in my jeans.

I've got a copy of all the transcripts and exercise files from the ones I've seen so I don't have to fork over an arm and a leg to find those LinkedIn videos. If they're gonna give me something, I'm keeping it.

WEEK 1 DAY 5

It's getting to that part of the weekend where work is scheduled at such an odd hour that a daily update becomes a real challenge.

but hey, at least I posted this up here. I'm late to the game, but I showed up. I should get one of those achievement awards schools hand out to little kids. Like the teachers hands it over and says "yay, you participated. You exist. You also have a fragile ego due to this social stigma of winning and losing and are easily butt hurt. So here you go champ."

060.png

Anyhow...

It's my day of rest since I went all out the day before. I was really feeling it in my hips whenever I had to bend down or squat. I did my self-care with another mud mask and a four step hand bubbly-scrubby-moisturizingy. It only made the dry areas look like those big sunburned people from Lilo and Stitch.

blogger-image-959761721.jpg

I also reached out in the Rising Hero FB group and asked if others are having the same trouble of being in dead divisions or squads. They're in a group, but no one interacts with anyone else or holds themselves and others through their separate chat/page/link/etc. It seems to be a common problem. I did, however, find myself a wing woman. I'm super stoked about that since they're very active on the main page. Makes me want to step up my game. Too bad I'll be leaving RH at the end of the month(again). I'm not much for the pacing of things, letting your team down for not fulfilling goals, the confusing storyline getting lost amass the sea of fb posts. Good thing my new birdperson is in the academy too. We can still support each other there. (who am I kidding. I probably need more support than they do. Judging by their posts they seem to have their shite together. Maybe encouraging me benefits them too. Like seeing what grows from what you plant or some analogy.)

74338224.jpg

I sent out more resumes. But at this point, the army is looking more promising. They had posted this morning for an HR specialist position. All I'd have to do it the ten-week training, which (let's be honest), but sorry butt could use. And then serve for a few years. After that, I could more than likely get (almost) any spot I want at USAA. I feel like I'd be more set for life if I sold a few years of my soul away to the war machine. Maybe I could be like the Pam I've always dreamed of being.

L4w67.jpg

I went to work an evening shift. Apparently, I'm pretty good at closing down a store properly. Or not blowing it up. It was the regular bizz. Asking customers what they need as they roam the aisles vacant-eyed and slack-jawed, picking up poop and not questioning whether it's from a sick dog or an irresponsible owner, and calming down my overworked and overstressed managers. Gotta love retail.

WEEK 1 DAY 6

Back at it again with the daily challenge-writing-accountability-blurb.

Someone get a fire extinguisher because I'm on fire... with being (sort of) on top of the daily check in's.

tumblr_inline_n7n1gvPU2l1sygcvd.gif

No, I did not work out today and I did not do my PLP challenge. I'm still having some less than mild DOMS in weird places I didn't know were sore until I bend in at an odd angle. I usually do my routine in the morning, but it didn't help that my morning started off with my stepmom bursting through the door and going into full on interrogation mode. Apparently, I forgot to wash a plate last night and slept in ten minutes later than my usual wake up time. So instead of working out, I washed my plate along with all the other dishes that everyone in the fam had left in the sink. I spent the rest of the morning trying to avoid the dining area since my stepmom is in a foul mood about her college homework and instead of being an adult, sucking it up, and learning the material, she instead takes out her frustrations on everyone else.

ae7efb62f71850da1700aebec00c5e98.gif

Well, I couldn't not eat so I had to venture into the kitchen to make myself some breakfast. I put in my headphones and listened to a podcast while prepping the morning usual of scrambled eggs, plain greek yogurt with honey, and black coffee. I tried out my french again. I managed to not get any coffee grounds in my cup this time. The coffee was slightly more palatable than the stuff used in the Keurig. It tasted less like water downed dirt and more like one-more-minute and the coffee would have been burnt taste, but still coffee. Again it's not helping that the coffee is finely ground or a cheap McCafe blend. And the grounds are more than likely stale. And I used tap water. I'll have to do some research and find some better grounds or just invest in Starbucks grounds.

tumblr_msfh710AV31s30ko5o1_500.gif

I ate in semi-silence as I sat across from my stepmom. There were no casualties. After the morning routine was done she came back to my room asking the hotkey to undo a typed error (hint: ctrl+z). Reflecting back on this, I think it was either

A) Her way of half apologizing for the wake-up interrogation by pretending nothing happened

B ) She got herself so stressed that her muscle memory for computers short circuited

C) She was going to originally apologize but bailed when I opened the door and went for a weird question

but it's anyone's guess.

giphy.gif

I stayed in my room to avoid the eggshells that I didn't want to walk on and tried to destress by downloading an app for a minor distraction. I tried out a few until I found one of the idle/grinding/lvl up/ rewarding games that just fires off my dopamine receptors and make me forget the realization that time is being wasted on a basic/trivial game instead of going towards a more productive pursuit and I'm at a point in my life I don't want to be at. Luckily, I got a call from a coworker asking if I could come in an hour early to cover for the end of her shift. So I jumped at that opportunity and went off to work. I got to hug plenty of puppies, didn't have to clean up any messes, only had two irate customers, and enjoyed a slow amount of traffic thanks to fiesta and the spurs game.

Your stepmother sounds in some parts like my stepmother. My stepmother have a quick temper (thankfully set off by pretty predictable things), but it is definitely worth it to avoid her when she's mad because she'll spew at pretty much anyone who steps wrong. And when I lived at home (I actually haven't really seen her angry since I moved away from home), I'd sometimes get ranted/lectured about things I hadn't done but my siblings; I did usually get an apology later but I still had to listen to the rant and be upset by it.

So I feel ya. And sounds like you did the best you could to stay out of her way.

For the coffee, I find filtered water makes a huge difference when brewing. Short of that, some drinking water from HEB (The Hill Country Fair is cheap) will improve the taste. Also, get some good coffee.

Not sure if this applies or not, but your sentence fits the title of the book pretty well.

This seems to be a trend with stepmothers. I spent the morning browsing over psychology today and sociological peer reviewed articles about this between stepparents and stepkids. It seems like a lose-lose for stepmoms.

I dealt with the same thing about rants/lectures about what my siblings did. She already has a kid of her own and in the past would blame me for what her kid did or threaten me with CPS if my stepsister seemed upset or didn't get her way. Thankfully, that was years ago and everyone is a little more grown up and too busy to go back to those kind of petty arguments.

I'll go and buy some filtered water when from HEB and some whole beans too. According to LifeHack, coffee beans can be put through a blending on grind.

I'll have to give that book a read. The next time this egg shell incident happens I'll try and have conversations without using the words "I" or "me" or the generic "when you do X, I feel..." that may throw her for a loop.

There's plenty of ground stuff that does fine in a french press. Also, you can buy whole beans in bulk and use the grinder they have in that section without any extra charge, it has a selector on it for how fine you want them ground, it may be an option to look into. Keeping coffee in the freezer once it's open keeps it fresh longer too.

Thanks for the tip.

Buying in bulk is more cost effective, but I'll store the whole beans in the freezer in separate packages and grind it at home. If the beans don't take to the blender or food processor I've got I'll grind them at the store.

Wow, okay that was far uglier than mine was. I now have a very good relationship with my stepmother. Living together just wasn't such a good idea. Teenagers and someone with a short temper just doesn't work, haha. Now I kinda love her. So it can end better than it fares for a while.

Ya, we seem to bring out the worst in each other. We're still at that point where we're just acquaintances living in the same house. It doesn't help that she's just eleven years older than me. I was more of a stone waller when I was a teen. We'll find out how our relationship goes once I move out.

Moving out was the thing that really changed the relationship for the better. It was the same with my dad; not that we had a bad relationship but removing the stress of him having to parent me and me following his rules made a huge difference.

Another reason why I should why I should ship myself off to the army. Get fit, great networking opportunity, job experience, somewhat more independent, and a potential at getting a better relationship with the folks.

I've discussed this kind of behavior in previous challenges. And yes it is a little more out of hand than your garden variety stepparent/child issues.

These kinds of outbursts usually happen when either I spend too much time at home or the summer/winter holidays roll around. Yes it's a big problem and the sooner I can distance myself from this the better.
