Fonzico vs the Time Management Gnome

Fonzico

Recommended Posts

The Time Management beast can't be a dragon. It just can't.

So it's a gnome. It looks innocent and harmless, and you don't even think you need to wage battle, let alone that it would be a tough one if you do.

giphy.gif

But gnomeses are sneaky and little and their teeth are sharp. And they are worthy if diminutive foe.

Angry-Gnome-86855.gif

And boy oh boy to I have a swarm of gnomes coming down on me! I am just straight up short on time this challenge. I have a LOT of things that need to get done. I have a lot of prior commitments. And I am trying to get a job in a new city, so depending on how that goes, I may have a whole 'nother set of things to take care of! Naturally, what bugs me the most about this is is not KNOWING which immediate future I am planning for...

So yes. This challenge is about getting stuff done, but it's also largely about staying sane while I do it.

So here are the various gnomic categories that will be occupying my efforts:

1. American Sign Language Class: Every Tuesday and Thursday, except April 27th. I have barely enough time to eat supper after work, and I don't get home until after 9pm, so Tues/Thurs cannot accommodate any further scheduling, unless it's before work. (Blergk!)

2. Workouts: twice a week

3. Disc Golf: I have been bitten by the competitive disc golf bug, and I am determined to get better and do well in tournaments this year! There's a tournament this weekend, and one May 6-7 that will fall under this challenge. Obviously I also need to get lots of practice in - this doesn't have a specific schedule, but will be taking up a great deal of what little spare time I have. This also has a secondary aspect, which is that the hubs and I are

4. Purge the house. If we ARE moving, we need to seriously downsize the absurd amount of possessions we have. If not, this is still a good thing to get done. We have more space that we need in our current abode, and it has just collected clutter, and I'm done with it.

So some of these things will be part of my goals, and others are just challenges that I will need to work around to get my other goals done.

Without further ado, here are my goals!

Eat: But not gluten. Less than 120g of carbs each day. At least 80g of protein.

Simple, yes? 1 pt per item per day. Bonus point for carbs below 80g. Bonus point for dairy-free days.

A - 84pts  B - 74 pts  C - 63pts  D - 53pts

+3CHA

Bike: 130 kms. Ease into it for week one, then bike commute daily for weeks 2-4.

My bus pass runs out at the end of April, at which point I will switch to bike commuting. It's not far at all (4.2km one way) and takes me about 20 minutes (closer to 15 once I'm in shape!). I need to rent a locker, since I'll be showering at work, and I need to get my stamina back up! The biggest obstacle with this is that I am usually completely wiped out for the first week or so until I get used it again. If I miss a day, I can make up the kms with other biking, that's fine. Weather and sleeping in happen sometimes... I also have a physio appt sometime during this challenge I think, so I'll have to drive that day.

A - 130kms  B - 115kms  C - 100kms  D - 85kms

+3END

Workout: Twice a week.

Gym sessions. One on Sundays, one weekday morning. Yes, I'mma have to get up damn early for this. Sigh.

A - 8pts  B - 6pts  C - 4pts  D - 2pts

+2STR, +2DEX

Steps: Take at least 308,000 of them during the course of the challenge. That's 11,000 per day.

I have a goal of averaging 10,000 steps per day over the entirety of 2017. I'm a little behind on this right now, so I'm aiming to gain some ground.

A - 308,000  B - 299,000  C - 290,000 D - 280,000

+2END

PURGE: Get rid of excess possessions. Donate and sell if possible. Throw away if not. Clean as we go.

There are a couple rooms that are especially daunting, and so they will be the primary focus of this challenge.

1. Basement Storage Room #1 - this mostly contains camping gear, old shoes, winter gear, supplies for our business and a giant wooden thingy that was rescued from a job site for absolutely no purpose other than to take up room in our house.

2. Basement Storage Room #2 - this is full of recycling, cardboard boxes, tools and assorted building supplies.

3. Craft Room - this one is all on me. I have a LOT of crafting supplies. Like... a lot. The only other thing this room contains is the cat litter and one bookshelf.. and it is full.

That being said, every other room in the house needs this treatment, except the upstairs bathroom, which is the only one I've completed so far. So I can still get points for other rooms, but no bonus prize unless I get the 3 big ones done.

10 pts awarded for each primary room complete. 2 pts each for any other room.

A - 30pts B - 20pts C - 10pts

BONUS PRIZE for 40 pts achieved. TBD.

TM strategy for the day: take my lunch break at the end of the day, and use a little lieu time to leave work at 230, so I have a little extra time to get ready for the trip to Lethbridge tomorrow.

I am SO excited for the disc golf tournament! My brother is coming too, which is awesome. And there are 5 other women signed up so far, which is also awesome.

We are also donating some T-shirts for prizes and hoping to sell some too :)

Weekend was awesome! I came in third in the disc golf tournament, but I improved my score by 14 over last year, so I am very pleased with myself!

I got about a million steps in, a sun burn, lots of prizes (between the players pack, winnings and raffle, the hubs and I walked away with 10 new discs!).

Plus we sold a shirt, took two orders for custom shirts and hubs sold a disc that he had done a Starwars dye job on.

Now back to the real world. Food choices were fairly terrible over the weekend, and I've definitely been back tracking on body comp lately. Enough.

Challenge starts today, and I'm back to eating right and working out.

I'll catch up with everyone's threads by the end of today!69db8b27495f62ca04e81312f5fa863f.jpg

Week One Day One:

Food: 2pts

Carbs were over (too many leftovers from the weekend! Omg the lamb biryani was worth it though) but no gluten and enough protein was had.

Steps: 8500 :/ lackluster start. Still exhausted from the weekend. All rested up now though :)

No biking, or working out or purging, not that I expected to.

So I tried out online grocery shopping for the first time yesterday - just didn't have the energy to do it myself! It's not delivery, you still go pick it up, but for $3 they get everything for you and bring it out to your car! Pretty slick.

Today is the last class of the second level of ASL - we are having a potluck party. I will attempt to behave.

Next level starts next week.

Week One Day Two

Food: 3pts

Technically I met this goal, but maybe I should include a calorie count, because I went way over.

Breakfast: refrigerator oats and broccoli salad

Lunch: sausage and roasted curried vegetables

Dinner: sausage with scrambled eggs, cheese and green onions

Potluck: 1 whole deviled egg, 1 strawberry, about 6 tortilla chips with layer dip, two peanut butter marshmallow squares, and a couple rice crackers with sour creamy dip.

I really did try - I ate a protein filled supper beforehand, and I didn't go overboard... But it was still too much.

No gluten

Carbs: 116g

Protein: 86g

Steps: oof! 6500 ish. I've got some making up to do this week...

I AM going to the gym tonight. I have been totally failing at this whole morning workout thing so far, so I just need to go.

Okay, this has been a bit of a lacklustre start to the challenge. I didn't end the last one in the greatest place (and now it's freaking shark week!) But I'm just thinking of it as building up steam!

Side eye is required if my food choices are not stellar today, ok?

Oh! And I got a really nice compliment from my ASL instructor last night! We were chatting during a lull in the class, and she was telling me her woes with her daughter who has moved back home etc. She was doing most of the signing, and I will admit that I didn't catch everything, but I was following, and asking questions and contributing to the conversation.

It was probably a good 15 minutes or so, and afterwards she told me that my signing is good and that I'm faster than a lot of people in the class :D high praise, coming from her!

Get thee to the gym!

Cool to hear about your ASL class. I'm pretty amazed at how fast you seem to be learning.

Gym done! Feels so good.

I'm kind of amazed at how much I've learned too... But then other times I feel like I know nothing! However it is really cool when you have an actual conversation with someone, I get a bit of a thrill from it.

Week One Day Three:

Food: no side eye needed! 3 pts

Carbs: 96g

Protein: 121g

No gluten

Breakfast: refrigerator oats, sausage and veggies

Lunch: ground beef with salsa, broccoli slaw

Dinner: ground beef with onions and gravy, with roasted potatoes and cabbage

My calories were high again, but everything I ate was good good food and I didn't feel like I overate, so I'm not going to worry too much today.

Workout: Done! Went to gym and did tabata sets with seester dearest.

Steps: 11,000!

Purge: nothing to see here yet

Biking: Nothing yet. It's been cold AF (and snowing!). I am terrified at the thought that I'm supposed to be bike commuting full time next week! I will get some work in here before Monday though.

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy is warm taking forever this year?

It's cold and gross here, too - we had a damn monsoon Tuesday and yesterday I was all traumatized by the garden area (there are white tarps down) because I kept thinking I was seeing snow out of the corner of my eye.

Good job on pulling yourself up by the willpower :)

snow?! Wow, I was complaining about all our rain. But , it's snowing and almost May, that's just crazy!

We had a good 4 inches on the ground yesterday morning! It all melts through the day, but we've had snow I think at least 4 days in the last week :/

Week One Day Four

Food: 4 pts!

Carbs: 76g = bonus point

Protein: 101g

No gluten

Breakfast: leftover roasted potatoes and cabbage, added bell pepper, red onion and mushroom, plus scrambled eggs with tomatillo salsa. So. Good.

Lunch: grape tomatoes with leftover cheesy bacon sour cream dip, ground beef, salsa and broccoli slaw.

Dinner: omfg. Thai curry turkey meatballs. Peppers, onions, mushrooms. Little bit of rice.

Steps: like 14,600! Lunch walk, plus disc golf plus grocery store equals mega steps

I felt so much more like myself yesterday. I really wish I could stop these weeks of nonsense eating and back sliding, but at least it didn't last too long. I once again feel like I've got this :) now to keep up the good behaviour over the weekend!

One of our buddies is celebrating his birthday on Saturday. Hubs and I have agreed to eat before hand and just order an appy at the restaurant (this is more a financial thing than a health thing, since it's a pretty healthy restaurant, but anyways). Then we are going bowling! Fun fun. I am thinking of making a healthy snack to bring back to their place afterwards - I'm expecting wings and cake to be a thing... Although his wife is 21DFing right now, so she might lean healthier. I should talk to her.

Plan for Sunday is to tackle one of my major purge items! I'm getting sick of the bathroom being the only room that's done.

Saturday might be workout day - I'm hoping to do Sat/Mon instead of Sun/Weds this week, because I'm going to a disc golf clinic out of town Wednesday evening! I'm pretty excited about this, as I've never had any formal training. The women's league in a larger city is putting it on (we don't really have enough people for a women's league.. there's like 5 of us who play semi-regularly) and it's only $5 so a few of us are going to carpool up there and join in :D

Aaand I still need to get some biking in! I'm going to bring my shower stuff to work today and stash it in my locker, so I'm ready to go for Monday.

I've decided that I need to not be a wimp about this. It's going to be cold in the mornings for a bit yet. I can bundle up. I will survive. I am strong. And Canadian, dammit!

Food: 2 pts

Carbs:133g

Protein: 108g

No gluten

Breakfast: Eggs, potatoes, peppers onions and mushrooms

Snack: chili! It was treat day at work, and someone brought chili. Yum! No bun though.

Lunch: leftover Thai turkey meatballs

Snack #2, because it was a long, painful day at work, my head hurt and we were going to play disc golf before supper:

A double gin Caesar, and a bit of rice

And then a beer on the course...

Dinner: spaghetti squash "lasagna" made with turkey sausage, marinara and cottage cheese

Steps: 9000 ish :/

I'm going to bike to the gym this morning, taking the long way around, to kill two birds with one stone :)
