Beginning to run...

Recommended Posts

Hey all, back again, this time more determined than ever. Im just unbelievably fed up with how i look, how i feel. I want to get my confidence back, i want to feel good about myself, i want to be stronger, physically and emotionally.

I have started the Zombie c25k, has anyone done this before?? I actually started on week 2 as week 1 was a little easy. That said, i'm very unfit. Very weak.

I have got a phone strap for my arm and hook headphones and yesterday when i worked out, it felt much 'easier'. (as in my phone wasnt in the way and my headphones didnt slip out of my ears!)

When i think about it, im excited to be able to run...its what i want to do, run....

I have severe mental health issues, BPD and anxiety disorder. I have read so many reports about how running and exercise in general has helped people get a hold of their life. I want to take back control and feel better.

I hope this place can help me achieve my goals. I always start a thread but it seems quiet, or people just dont feel like joining in the discussion and due to feeling like im talking to myself, i leave.  I hope this time people will reply and stick around :)

My sister did a half marathon last year in my city, i cheered her on and was so proud of her. Shes asked me to do it next year with her.....so i need to work harder than ive ever worked before.

Im ready.

Exercise does loads of good for your mental health!  My partner has BPD and fitness really helps keep them afloat and ward off the bad days.

I did C25K once (very similar to zombies) and it was great but hard.  I had a lot of trouble progressing past Week 3 because my cardio has always been absolutely terrible.  But it's a great program and you can totally succeed with it - consistency is key, don't stop!!

Don't be afraid to be social here! :) It  may take a bit but friends and rebels willing to help are everywhere.  If you have a guild you're interested in, maybe pop into their guild chat thread and introduce yourself, or make yourself a challenge thread for the upcoming 4 week challenge with goals you'd like to work towards!  The forums have been invaluable to my success and you really get out what you put in here, so don't be afraid to drop into people's battle logs or challenges and say hi or comment on the chatter that's going on.

You can do it!  We believe in you~ :D

Tell me, if you had the strength to take another step, could you do it?

Hey Shaar, thanks for coming along. Glad to hear that working out helps your partner, thats definitely a big spur for me...

Yes im worried that the run times get long quite quickly but i wont be afraid to repeat a workout before moving on with it...thats ok isnt it?? or is that defeating the point of a c25k?

Yes, i will look at the Guilds and introduce myself thank you for pushing me. I get anxious with socialising but i need to push myself too.

Thanks again!! x

This is VERY ok!  I often repeated workouts because I wanted to make sure I was getting strong the right way and not rushing it... I think I repeated Week 2 three times before I felt ready to challenge myself with Week 3!   Everyone trains at different levels and learning how to adapt to make the program work for you is a great skill. :)

20 seconds of courage, kick that social anxiety to the curb!!  (That's way easier said than done right??)

5k is really not that scary.  That's 3.1 miles.  You can walk it in an hour.  Faster than that is just bonus points.  Enjoy the journey!

I've also done C25K in past, good program IMHO.  Also encourage don't be afraid to repeat portions of it.  The only way to fail it is to stop - repeating parts of it is another way of progressing slowly, but still progressing.  Good luck!

I never did c25k, but I did the Zombies Run! game.  it took me a while to get to where I wasn't having to drop all my swag to deter zombies because I couldn't outrun them.  there were several times even that I was just like "NOPE" and turned the chasing feature off, lol!!

There is never a sudden revelation, a complete and tidy explanation for why it happened, or why it ends, or why or who you are. You want one and I want one, but there isn't one. It comes in bits and pieces, and you stitch them together wherever they fit, and when you are done you hold yourself up, and still there are holes and you are a rag doll, invented, imperfect. And yet you are all that you have, so you must be enough. There is no other way.
