Now my goals seem like an insurmountable and mountain that is as difficult to climb as the cliffs of Insanity. However I'm going to continue on and make small steps to get back on track starting now. Ok, so let's set up this challenge! Go to the gym at least 2x/week Resist sugary treats with an allowance of no more than 2x per week. Don't go out to dinner more than 2x/week This way it's simple, it's measurable, and it's a start in the right direction. One of the hardest things has been getting back into the gym. I'm hoping that by the end of the month I'll be back to going to the gym 4x/week, but for now even just going 2x/week is better than what I have been doing. I will be posting pretty much everything I eat and what I do at the gym to keep myself accountable. I have found myself having less energy and my knees have been hurting more since I stopped my routine. Sunday I didn't have breakfast and it was my husband's niece's birthday so we celebrated by having a cook out at his sister's. We had hamburgers and chips. Because I didn't have breakfast, I over-indulged too. I ended up having two of the burgers. Ugh... Technically this doesn't fall under the restrictions of my challenge, but still not good. For dinner though I cooked spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread for my friends that came over. Not great, but not too bad. I ate too much of it though. I did cook instead of going out to eat though, so that's still a plus. Gym: 0/2 Pending... Sugary Treats: 0/2 Success! Also for knowing why you over indulged on the chips when you skipped breakfast. Today I am so hungry... I'm not sure why. I feel like I can't stop eating and I just want to eat everything! It felt like I couldn't eat enough. Before lunch time I had eaten all the snacks I had brought for the day. After lunch I was still starving so I ended up going to the work vending machine (bad Rhia). Then at my therapist's office that night, she had chocolate rice crispy treats and a chocolate chip granola bar. I ate both. Then for dinner I had leftover spaghetti and salad. After dinner I fought not to eat the ice cream in the fridge. It seemed like all day was a battle. I just was so hungry! I couldn't stop thinking about food! I would eat and I would even feel my stomach was full, but for some reason I wanted more food! It was insane!!! Finally I realized... I was about to start my period. OF COURSE!!!! That explains it! I was still so frustrated and felt horrible that I didn't do well my first day. Gym: 0/2 Pending... Sugary Treats: 3/2 Fail... Out to dinner: 0/2 Success! So, yesterday didn't go so well. However, this morning I'm already doing TONS better than yesterday. I got up, had my eggs and grapes, then went to work and had a hot cup of tea. So far it's 9:30am and I've only had a banana for a snack and I'm not craving anything else. Yesterday was an anomaly. It was really weird, but I should do much better starting today. So far I"m already feeling better. A goal that I have that I"m not including in this challenge is to move more. I've been getting up and moving when my fitbit alerts me to do 250 steps each hour. Since they moved my office out of the shop, I haven't been moving as much. I pretty much just stay in my office all day. So, I'm trying to get up and walk a bit more. So far I"m doing a lot better today and already have walked each hour. You KNOW you're full - you KNOW you don't "need" any more food - but it's like being the conductor of a runaway train: you keep hauling on the brakes and pulling all the levers to make it stop, and it makes absolutely no difference at all. It sucks. Just remember, one bad day doesn't mean a thing by itself. The trick is to keep it an isolated incident, and not let it snowball. Now that your body is cooperating again, I highly doubt you're in any danger of that happening. And it's SO HARD to get back to it once you fall out of the habit. I took 3 days off this weekend and it was rough getting back to it today. You can do it! I read an article a little while back that said that the cravings associated with PMS is a social thing, not a biological thing. It argued that it was acceptable for women to crave chocolate during that time of month, and THAT'S why we crave chocolate and that there is no biological reason for such cravings. I call so much bullshit on that. I never even think about the fact that I'm close to that time of month when I get those overwhelming cravings and eating habits. Ugh, it really irritated me that they would make that claim. Again, today I'm doing MUCH better. So much better! It's like night and day. I'm trying really hard to get back on track. It was disheartening to have those issues at the beginning of my challenge, but I'm trying not to get too discouraged. And yeah... So many people are reading these and we wonder why people are so confused about what is actually 'fact'. Seriously, yesterday made no sense and nothing I ate was good enough. Even the junk food wasn't good enough to satiate me. I must say, this afternoon I'm getting a case of the 'munchies', but so far I haven't given in. I want some kind of junk food, but I'm instead drinking water and trying to concentrate on doing something else. Take my mind off of my hunger so to speak. So many people are reading these and we wonder why people are so confused about what is actually 'fact'. Seriously, yesterday made no sense and nothing I ate was good enough. Even the junk food wasn't good enough to satiate me. I must say, this afternoon I'm getting a case of the 'munchies', but so far I haven't given in. I want some kind of junk food, but I'm instead drinking water and trying to concentrate on doing something else. Take my mind off of my hunger so to speak. If I have to munch, I'm trying to munch on good foods or at least something not too terribly unhealthy. Pickles usually help quell my snackies. They're crunchy and salty (so I can legit say no to potato chips), and depending on whether I'm leaning towards savory or sweet snacks, I'll either go for a strong garlic/dill type or sweet gherkins. The sweet ones are slightly higher in calories, but I find I can't actually eat that many of them before my tongue starts to get a weird, pseudo-numb sensation, which usually makes me stop. If regular pickles aren't doing the trick, I'll move on to some kind of a spicy pickled veggie mix or just plain kimchi (I buy the generic brands at Walmart).
