RhiaWolfe Climbs the Cliffs of Insanity

RhiaWolfe

Recommended Posts

In April/May I was completely derailed from my goals. Now my goals seem like an insurmountable and mountain that is as difficult to climb as the cliffs of Insanity.

However I'm going to continue on and make small steps to get back on track starting now.

Ok, so let's set up this challenge!

Go to the gym at least 2x/week

Resist sugary treats with an allowance of no more than 2x per week.

Don't go out to dinner more than 2x/week

This way it's simple, it's measurable, and it's a start in the right direction. One of the hardest things has been getting back into the gym. I'm hoping that by the end of the month I'll be back to going to the gym 4x/week, but for now even just going 2x/week is better than what I have been doing.

I will be posting pretty much everything I eat and what I do at the gym to keep myself accountable. I have found myself having less energy and my knees have been hurting more since I stopped my routine. Time to get back into it!

Week 0: Sunday, May 21

So, I'm not starting off this week very well. Sunday I didn't have breakfast and it was my husband's niece's birthday so we celebrated by having a cook out at his sister's. We had hamburgers and chips. Because I didn't have breakfast, I over-indulged too. I ended up having two of the burgers. Ugh... Technically this doesn't fall under the restrictions of my challenge, but still not good.

For dinner though I cooked spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread for my friends that came over. Not great, but not too bad. I ate too much of it though. I did cook instead of going out to eat though, so that's still a plus.

Gym: 0/2 Pending...

Sugary Treats: 0/2 Success!

Out to dinner: 0/2 Success?

Good to see you Tank! Yeah, I'm having difficulty with allowing myself to set winnable goals instead of going all out. I'm trying though.

Right now I'm not doing well at all. I need to start somewhere!

Love the theme. You got this challenge. Good for you for fixing food for friends for breakfast. Also for knowing why you over indulged on the chips when you skipped breakfast. Next time you will have some food before hand and not have to use all your will power to fight off all the chips

I've not started this challenge off strong... but I'll get there. Today I am so hungry... I'm not sure why. I feel like I can't stop eating and I just want to eat everything! I'm trying though.

Week 0: Monday, May 22

Ok, so, again, this day did not go very well. I woke up and for some reason I was ravenous. It felt like I couldn't eat enough. Before lunch time I had eaten all the snacks I had brought for the day. After lunch I was still starving so I ended up going to the work vending machine (bad Rhia).

Then at my therapist's office that night, she had chocolate rice crispy treats and a chocolate chip granola bar. I ate both.

Then for dinner I had leftover spaghetti and salad.

After dinner I fought not to eat the ice cream in the fridge. It seemed like all day was a battle.

I just was so hungry! I couldn't stop thinking about food! I would eat and I would even feel my stomach was full, but for some reason I wanted more food! It was insane!!!

giphy.gif

Finally I realized... I was about to start my period. OF COURSE!!!! That explains it! I was still so frustrated and felt horrible that I didn't do well my first day.

Gym: 0/2 Pending...

Sugary Treats: 3/2 Fail...

Out to dinner: 0/2 Success!

So, yesterday didn't go so well. However, this morning I'm already doing TONS better than yesterday. I got up, had my eggs and grapes, then went to work and had a hot cup of tea. So far it's 9:30am and I've only had a banana for a snack and I'm not craving anything else. Yesterday was an anomaly. It was really weird, but I should do much better starting today. So far I"m already feeling better.

A goal that I have that I"m not including in this challenge is to move more. I've been getting up and moving when my fitbit alerts me to do 250 steps each hour. Since they moved my office out of the shop, I haven't been moving as much. I pretty much just stay in my office all day. So, I'm trying to get up and walk a bit more. So far I"m doing a lot better today and already have walked each hour.

It's a Brand New Day!!!!!

Sooooo relate to this. It's the most inexplicable thing, isn't it? You KNOW you're full - you KNOW you don't "need" any more food - but it's like being the conductor of a runaway train: you keep hauling on the brakes and pulling all the levers to make it stop, and it makes absolutely no difference at all. It sucks.

Just remember, one bad day doesn't mean a thing by itself. The trick is to keep it an isolated incident, and not let it snowball. Now that your body is cooperating again, I highly doubt you're in any danger of that happening. ^_^ Keep it up!

Kind of obnoxious how a little change in your hormones translates into the real world. But today's a new day, and now you know what's up.

Great theme and goals all around. Last time I had like 9 goals and I think it was a bit overwhelming. And it's SO HARD to get back to it once you fall out of the habit. I took 3 days off this weekend and it was rough getting back to it today. You can do it!

OMG yes!!!! I read an article a little while back that said that the cravings associated with PMS is a social thing, not a biological thing. It argued that it was acceptable for women to crave chocolate during that time of month, and THAT'S why we crave chocolate and that there is no biological reason for such cravings.

1275912c4f97085e1c70323a68aa741d.jpg

I call so much bullshit on that. I never even think about the fact that I'm close to that time of month when I get those overwhelming cravings and eating habits. Ugh, it really irritated me that they would make that claim.

Again, today I'm doing MUCH better. So much better! It's like night and day. Trying to keep it as an isolated incident.

Yeah, I feel like I've been off track for a while. Ever since my vacation in April. It's been a while. I'm trying really hard to get back on track. It was disheartening to have those issues at the beginning of my challenge, but I'm trying not to get too discouraged.

And yeah... I try to avoid the classic blunders.

Agreed. That article was clearly written by a man. "Acceptable" my ass. Everything in my brain screams "NO MORE!" but I've literally spent entire nights - yes, 8 -/+ hours in the dark - awake because I am literally consumed with a desire to continue shoveling food down my throat. There is no amount of logic that stops the feeling. You can only ride it out as best you can (and most of the time that means succumbing due to sheer misery).

It's just frustrating that I see crap like that posted like "legitimate" articles with no peer reviewed studies associated with them. So many people are reading these and we wonder why people are so confused about what is actually 'fact'. Seriously, yesterday made no sense and nothing I ate was good enough. Even the junk food wasn't good enough to satiate me.

giphy.gif?response_id=59247b5be9e927d19c

I must say, this afternoon I'm getting a case of the 'munchies', but so far I haven't given in. I want some kind of junk food, but I'm instead drinking water and trying to concentrate on doing something else. Take my mind off of my hunger so to speak. If I have to munch, I'm trying to munch on good foods or at least something not too terribly unhealthy.

Pickles usually help quell my snackies. They're crunchy and salty (so I can legit say no to potato chips), and depending on whether I'm leaning towards savory or sweet snacks, I'll either go for a strong garlic/dill type or sweet gherkins. The sweet ones are slightly higher in calories, but I find I can't actually eat that many of them before my tongue starts to get a weird, pseudo-numb sensation, which usually makes me stop.

If regular pickles aren't doing the trick, I'll move on to some kind of a spicy pickled veggie mix or just plain kimchi (I buy the generic brands at Walmart). Something about spicy foods seems to really help punch a hole in my cravings.
