Aw don't worry, it's not your fault! I was the one that decided a 3+ hour hike would be a good idea on leg day. I'm sure I wouldn't be in nearly as much pain if I'd have just done the squats and not the hike.

 

The funny thing is, Hubs did squats with me and is feeling exactly the same. So we both keep moaning when trying to get up and laughing at each other. We're both idiots really.

Long story short, my legs have been destroyed by squats and I had to ditch my run last night. I'm pissed off, but I'm not going to let it ruin the rest of this week. A run was missed, there is nothing I can do about it now, time to move on. 

 

That meant I didn't do anything yesterday except foam roll my legs like crazy. That wasn't much fun! 

I feel your pain. 3 classes into my crossfit bootcamp and I can't remember what it was like to do all those things pain free.

Week 1 - Wednesday

 

Not sure where that fantastic wave of motivation from the beginning of the week has gone. I think the impending shark week has stolen it. Hopefully it'll be back soon.

Goal 1: Hearts on Fire (Running)

Non-running day

Goal 2: Hold On

Hollow holds and Knee raises as part of my strength training session. 

Goal 3: Wake Up!

I've really failed at this all this week. My alarm goes off at 5:30, I get up, feed the cat and let him out and then fall back in bed. Even though I'm not really sleeping when I get back in bed, I just can't bring myself to get up and do anything. I'm not really sure how to remedy this other than keep trying.

You need to add something to your morning routine that keeps you from getting back into bed. Best if it is something that you need to wear clothes and leave the house for.

Make a rule to put your running clothes on before feeding the cat? Admittedly the cat might not like it very much, but if you're dressed you're less likely to go back to bed.

 

Also, I am definitely going to steal your spotify playlist when I get on my computer at home; it looks awesome so far.

Yeah, there isn't much that I need to put clothes on for in my house! The joys of Child-free living! :D Maybe if I just do something like switch the TV on on pour myself a glass of water, that might be enough for my brain to figure out that we aren't going back to bed.

Oh if only it were that simple. My morning brain is my Mr Hyde. It's like I'm a completely different person in the morning and it's nearly impossible to get Morning Charlie to do anything she doesn't want to do! 

 

I'm not giving up though.

Week 1 - Thursday

 

Goal 1: Hearts on Fire (Running)

Intervals done! 4x400m intervals with warm up and cool down. If I need a good reason to get myself up in the morning, it should be that running in 25c heat SUCKS! 

But other than the heat, the intervals actually felt pretty good. There is something I never thought I'd say

Goal 2: Hold On

nope

Goal 3: Wake Up!

Seeing as I did my run in the evening, I think we all know the answer to this. 

 

It's Friday! I'm so looking forward a weekend of doing nothing, I don't usually like sitting around at the weekend, but I feel like I need a quiet one this weekend. Well, I'll be lifting tomorrow and running Sunday, and we're taking the father-in-law for a belated birthday dinner on Sunday, but other than that we don't have anything else to do. Bliss.

So true. We had a roommate for a few years and even though he was a good roommate it was so nice when he moved out and I didn't have to put clothes on to use the bathroom in the morning :)

Yep, I've been there with the roommate situation! There were a lot of "sofa in pants" days once it was just the two of us.

Hehe that sounds like my wife :D she actually threw a punch at me once when I tried to get her out of bed! Thankfully sleepy punches don't have much oomph. I'm definitely a morning person and that helps. She tells me my ability to wake up in a good mood is nothing short of amazing. The downside to it, of course, is that I truly struggle to get enough sleep.

That's one of the reasons I despise leg day.  I'm honestly okay with vicious DOMS anywhere else, but I hate the feeling of barely being able to walk.

For me, the solution to sleeping in was having kids, but I doubt you want to go there. :)  As soon as they're awake and needing things, there's no way anyone is managing to go back to bed.  Maybe you can "train" your cat to be more needy and more of a PITA in the morning. ;)

DOMS in the legs is the worst and it seems to last longer in the legs than it does anywhere else.

 

I think I'll just stick with the cat! But yeah, it's probably a lot easier to ignore a cat than a child.

Week 1 Wrap Up

Goal 1: Hearts on Fire (Running)

FAIL 1/3 runs completed - I ended up skipping my Sunday run due to shark week cramps. 

Goal 2: Hold On

2/2 - At least I hit this target. but I'd like to spend a little more time on it and I really really need to go climbing. 

Goal 3: Wake Up!

FAIL. I don't think I woke up early all week. 

 

Week 1 Grade: FAIL

It wasn't a good week, but I know it's just hormones causing problems as usual, things will be back to normal in a few days. TOM tend to make me really tired and it's not unusual for me to sleep a lot when it's that time. It's very tempting to ditch the early morning goal, but I'm not going to. I'm going to keep working at it until I become a morning person! 

 

I've got a half marathon this coming Sunday which I'm looking forward to. I did this course last year and there are quite a few hills, so I'm not going for a PB. There will be pacers at the event so I'm going to just aim to stick with the pacer for my current PB and just try to beat my current course record.

For me tricep DOMS are the worst, probably because I forget to stretch them out. It doesn't hurt until lifting my arms over my head and them bam! Maigs is wimpering :)

My cat (actually, Hub's cat) has gotten in the habit of waking me up every morning at 4:30am. I get up, chase her down, lock her in the bathroom, and go back to sleep for 2 more hours. I swear that one's evil

Have you considered locking her in the bathroom before you go to bed?

I'm almost to that point. But then my cat (the not evil, just a little special one) would wake me up concerned cause he can't find his sister. And she'd probably wake me up from there if she were locked in there all night. She doesn't wake me up like you would expect, she does it by pawing at the sliding glass door in the dining room incessantly. If you shoot nerf guns at her, spray her with water, throw pillows at her, and/or stomp the ground around her she will just start back up the moment you're back in bed (ask me how I know). So if I locked her in the bathroom she'd probably just wake me up by pawing at the bathroom door. My house is too small to lock her up further away from me
