My cat (actually, Hub's cat) has gotten in the habit of waking me up every morning at 4:30am. I get up, chase her down, lock her in the bathroom, and go back to sleep for 2 more hours. I swear that one's evil

 

I don't know if it counts as DOMS, but abs is probably a close second to legs for me. When you sneeze and it hurts, so you laugh because of the ridiculousness of it and it hurts again!

Mine will put his front paws up on the edge of the bed so his face is right in front of mine and then whines in my face, scaring the shit out of me. But what he does to Hubs is worse, he stands on his chest and claws at Hubs bottom lip. The weird thing is, he won't do that to me and won't whine in Hubs face. It's like he's tailored his annoyance for each of us! Most of the time we can shut him up by letting him out the window, but it's annoying when he wakes us up for food and there is still food in his bowl. He's lucky he's cute.

Oh, I had forgotten about abs! Those are horrible too!

the worst DOMS I had was my abs this past Labour Day weekend. Could barely make it out of bed let alone through the day x_x

I think all cat owners have this realisation at some stage. Now he's out of kittenhood, Frodo rarely comes to me for middle-of-the-night cuddles. But you can bet that when he does, he'll have just come indoors and it will be raining ;)

I don't get ab DOMS much as I don't do enough core work! I really should do something about that!

Why do they always seem to know where the sensitive areas are when walking over you too? Dexter will always walk right over my mid section when I need a pee and jumps on Hubs 'sensitive' area. I'm sure they know and do it on purpose!

Haha! See, they definitely do it on purpose! We didn't get Dexter from a kitten, he was about 3 years old when we adopted him and we've had him nearly 7 years now. He'd had a bit of a hard start in life and is still very skittish and he still hides under the bed for no reason. He has always slept with us on the bed, but he's only started sitting on the sofa with us in the last year. So he's a little bit broken, but I wouldn't change him for the world.

I've not shared much music on here myself, so how about one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands.

 

 

Week 2 - Monday

 

Goal 1: Hearts on Fire (Running)

Yes! It should have been squat day yesterday, but after missing my run on Sunday I really wanted to get out and do some running. So I brought my running stuff to work and did 30 mins around Hampstead Heath on my lunch break. This means my plan is a bit of a mess this week now, but I'll work it out. Squats and grip work will happen tonight instead.

Goal 2: Hold On

nope

Goal 3: Wake Up!

No, but I'm going to take this right back to what I was doing in prep week of this challenge and change my alarm to 10 minutes earlier every few days until I'm used to getting up earlier. I think I tried too much to soon and need to ease myself into getting up earlier. It means that morning workouts aren't going to happen for a while, but at least this way, I'm more likely to get there eventually. I got up 10 minutes earlier this morning so that's a start.

That's a good idea. I've had to do this in reverse. Going to bed 10 minutes earlier because too much too fast causes awful things. I'm sure you'll get where you want to be fast enough!

try making your bed before (or after, if necessary) feeding the cat.  maybe lying in nicely made bed versus a still messy one will be a little more dissuading?

 

my cat is a big tubby guy because of his breed (ragamuffin), and he'll try sleeping half-on my face still.  he thinks he's part dog.

I should probably adjust my bed time too if I'm getting up earlier.

Can't make the bed when I get up as there is still someone in it! Hubs doesn't have to get up as early as I do. Which is actually a pain as he is a morning cuddle person and always trying to persuade me to stay in bed for 5 more minutes! It's very sweet, but not very helpful!

Not that dumb, I mean, you did have 5 days to recover! BTW, thanks for adding Drowning Pool to my playlist! That started playing just as I was starting my first working set of squats last night and made me shout with joy. I played it back twice. Very loudly. :D

I'm in a good mood today, for a few reasons. Firstly, I'm just feeling really good. I had a great lifting session last night and so far there are no DOMS! Second, I'm going climbing tonight and that makes me happy. And thirdly, there has been a situation at work to do with a person that has been stressing me out for a few weeks. Today that situation has reached it's inevitable conclusion (I'm trying not to go into too much detail here) and it feels like a huge weight has been lifted. 

 

Week 2 - Tuesday

 

Goal 1: Hearts on Fire (Running)

Nope, rest day and as @EricMN would say; nailed it.

Goal 2: Hold On

+1. Lots of hanging from my ropes after lifting. I even did L sits while hanging (modified by bending my legs as my core is shockingly bad). I'm seeing some improvement in this, but it's slow.

Goal 3: Wake Up!

Woke up 10 minutes earlier as planned.

The only stretch of time I successfully got up early to exercise was when Hubs had to be at work at 6am (versus my 7:30am). Husbands, just not very helpful sometimes :D

omg, I can totally relate to this one.  I used to be able to get out of bed well enough when I slept alone.  but with my Guy still being in the bed, it makes it all the more difficult to stay out of it.  D:  can you set a second alarm that goes off in case you are still in bed.  and if you are staying up, you turn it off?

Yep, squats yesterday, which didn't feel nearly as horrible as last week. But I'm not going to start to party yet as I've started to feel some aches over the last few hours.....

I sleep best and get up on time whenever hubs is away for the night. I love getting the whole bed to myself! We both set alarms, mine is the early one and then his goes off about 7. I think one of my problems is, I know that if I switch my alarm off, I still have his alarm to fall back on. Maybe if he didn't set his alarm, I'd get up knowing that there was a risk I might get up too late. Or I'll just fall back to sleep and get to work really late!

I shouldn't have said I was in a good mood earlier as the day has been kicking my ass. My head is pounding but I'm still going to go climbing as it is honest-to-dog the best stress reliever I know.

+2. Bouldering! Destroyed my hands, arms and core. Loved every minute of it. Ran into a Mudstacle comrade while there and managed to have a short conversation with them like a normal person, which was nice.

Nah. For the reasons I mentioned yesterday. I spoke to Hubs when I got home and said that, while it's lovely to cuddle in bed in the morning, I want to start getting up earlier. So his solution is to push me out of bed when my alarm goes off. Nothing else is working, so I told him to go for it and this morning I got up with my alarm! Result!

As long as it doesn't result in any animosity then I think it's a great idea. We have one of those relationships where we are always teasing and playing tricks on each other so we don't tend to get annoyed at each other for things like this.

You've pretty much summed him up there. When it comes to pranks and tricks he has a Machiavellian mind, which would be really evil if he wasn't such a good-natured, kind-hearted person.

Week 2 - Thursday

 

Goal 1: Hearts on Fire (Running)

Sprints or Hill repeats day

Result: Hill repeats done. Did this at lunchtime, as there are no steep hills close to home. Did 5 or 6 (I lost count) repeats up one of the hills on Hampstead Heath. It started raining as I was finishing, which was quite refreshing. Question for any other runners. How long does your hill workout take? I find that it's the quickest workout of all and it's done in about 20 minutes. I'm tired by the end of it, but because it's only 20 minutes, I feel like I haven't done enough. Am I just so bad at running up hills that I'm tiring early or is this about normal?

Yay! Up with the alarm with only a slight push from Stubes. I still ended up rushing around as I'd forgotten to make my lunch the night before. 

 

Non-challenge musings

Had a haircut after work and again, I managed a proper conversation about politics with the stylist Look at me, actually engaging with people! I started tensing my hands up (one of my anxiety symptoms) after I had been sitting in the chair for a while and the conversation started to stall. This is the sort of thing I'm hoping CBT will help with?

Went to vote when I got home and was surprised that I had to queue to get into the poling station. Our constituency is a Tory stronghold and I knew this wouldn't change, but they only won the seat by a small majority this time. As for the bigger picture, we just have to see what happens over the next few days. I'm sure things will end up staying the same though. :(

I wanted to get one of the big lifts in when I came home (OHP) but I was very hungry and a bit shaky due to the hunger, so I decided it wasn't a good idea. This leaves me in a bit of a pickle. I can't lift tonight as we have tickets to see Wonder Woman. I'm lifting tomorrow, but I wasn't intending on doing much as I have a half marathon on Sunday. But if I'm going to stay on track with Juggernaut, I need to do Bench, Deadlifts and OHP tomorrow! IDK, I'm thinking it might be better to do a light session tomorrow and repeat week 2 next week instead?

I tend to tack on a couple of miles at the beginning and the end of my sprints and/or hills to make up time but the actual hilly bit is only about 15-20 minutes I guess. Sort but intense workouts are a beneficial thing though.
