It's totally a thing! It only stops being a thing when you start counting your 27th week anniversary :P

If nothing else, it's good for measuring against itself.  That can give a solid idea of long-term progression.

So much this. Whenever people complain about their Fitbits or whatever not being accurate I just shake my head. As long as it's consistently inaccurate you're still getting a good baseline to compare against

Hey, everyone.

I'm sorry I've been so quiet here. I'm not actually taking the time to update my challenge at the moment, but I did want to check in.

I'm currently at the NEC in Birmingham for the UK Games Expo after spending a few days in London. Diet has been... not good, but not especially bad. I've been for a run with a coworker, with another coming tomorrow.

Most of all, I just want to coast through the rest of this week. I didn't especially want to make this trip in the first place, and I'm fighting myself to try and have a good time. That means lots of time in solitude (as much as possible, really). Trying not to be overly cranky. You know how it goes.

Week 2 Wednesday Update

Guess who's back, nerds! This guy!

Whoa. Ok. Let's talk about the last couple of weeks just for a second.

I've been traveling so much. I went to Madison, WI for a trade show over a few days. Then I was home for approximately 30 hours before I got on a plane for London. I was there for 9 days, and I got back laaaaaaaate Monday night.

I ate like crap all through it. Like, I wasn't even trying. I'll cop to that, and I'm pretty ashamed of it. However, I did get plenty of activity. I went on runs during both trips, and just working a show is plenty of exercise. Not to mention all the walking I did in London.

I'm really wanting to get back on track now. I feel like the last month or so has just been kind of a loss, especially in regards to diet. So starting today, I'm back on the wagon.

Big Picture Challenges

  • Figure out diet.
    • What I've learned since last Tuesday:
      • It was coincidental that Steve wrote a thing about intermittent fasting, since I had just been looking into that. I'm definitely considering looking into that further.
  • Sign up and train for a 5k race.
    • Signed up?
      • All signed up for the Pride 5k.
    • Training progress.
      • Feeling pretty good about this, especially after the run I went on in Regent's Park in London. It really helps having someone there to run with me.
  • Log meals:
    • Note: Anything in bold is not paleo.
    • Ha. I'm not recapping two weeks of bad food.
    • Yesterday breakfast:
      • Calories:
    • Lunch:
      • Calories:
    • Dinner:
      • Calories:
    • Snacks:
      • Calories:

Little Picture Challenges

  • Run 1-4 miles 1x a week.
    • I'm staying true to this, so far! Which is pretty good, considering I've been traveling.
  • Gym 5x a week.
    • No gym time lately, but I'm back at it today.
  • Fill Activity ring on Apple Watch every day.
    • I've missed a couple days of this. Mainly because long airplane flights make it a little challenging.

Week 3 Monday Update

Remember how I said I was back? That was before I realised I'd underestimated how much work getting back into a routine would take. But I'm for real back now, I promise.

I had an awakening late last week. I'd kind of gotten to the point where the only part of my fitness routine I'd been paying attention to was how much I could lift. Well, there's a lot more to being healthy than that, and I think I'm back in the right mindset. I'm enjoying running again. I'm for real getting my diet back under control. These are good days.

Big Picture Challenges

  • Figure out diet.
    • What I've learned since last Tuesday:
      • Not a whole lot, sadly. Things have been so weird that I haven't made much of an attempt.
  • Sign up and train for a 5k race.
    • Signed up?
      • All signed up for the Pride 5k. I also signed up for a virtual race! Two races in a month!
    • Training progress.
      • So good. I've run more in the last week than the entire month before it.
  • Log meals:
    • Note: Anything in bold is not paleo.
    • Yesterday breakfast: Keto-friendly breakfast casserole
      • Calories: ~400
    • Lunch: Bowl of watermelon
      • Calories: 92
    • Dinner: Ground beef and onion, baby carrots, banana
      • Calories: 498
    • Snacks: Almonds
      • Calories: 133

Little Picture Challenges

  • Run 1-4 miles 1x a week.
    • Oh yes. I'm on this like crazy. I've set up a virtual running coach, too!
  • Gym 5x a week.
    • I'm way on top of this, too. I may have to cut back a little, though, based on my running schedule.
  • Fill Activity ring on Apple Watch every day.
    • Yeah!

Week 3 Monday Update

Yesterday was a nice, easy re-entry into routine. Everything was really pretty great, but there's a danger to routine. If there have been unhealthy elements to it in the past, it can be really easy to slip back into those, as well. For example, I have successfully gone a couple weeks without candy, while I've been away from my normal routine. But yesterday I felt the strongest urge I've ever felt to pick up a bag of something, because it's just part of the habit.

But now I know the dangers, and we're all good.

Big Picture Challenges

    • Yesterday breakfast: Two hard boiled eggs
      • Calories: 156
    • Lunch: Garlic-ginger pork loin, baked sweet potato bits, Broccoli Normandy
      • Calories: 561
    • Dinner: Keto-friendly breakfast casserole
      • Calories: ~400
    • Snacks: Almonds, banana, Halo Top Chocolate Almond Crunch
      • Calories: 518

Little Picture Challenges

  • Run 1-4 miles 1x a week.
    • Nothing yesterday. It's getting so hot that I really only want to do my runs in the morning, and that pretty much means I have to do them on the weekends.
  • Gym 5x a week.
    • Gym yesterday. Squats, OHP, Deadlift.
  • Fill Activity ring on Apple Watch every day.

No worries there. Jesus used Puns to pick on his buddies. Peter's Aramaic name was Cephas. When Peter declared Jesus of Nazareth to be The Christ Jesus talked about the stone (lithon) on which he would build the foundation of the Church, and re named him Peter, (Petros in Greek, or little pebble, to contrast him with the giant lithon stone).

Also the duck billed platypus exists, so that has to tell you something right there.

Week 3 Thursday Update

Good morning, Rebels!

Today is a good day. Yesterday was my actual rest day, and I feel super rested. I used the time to play video games. Now, I know that we typically think of video games as wasted time and something to largely be avoided, but it's actually kind of a big deal for me. See, when my depression really starts the process of settling in, the first thing to go is my desire to play video games. I'm enjoying them right now, so that's an indicator that my depression has receded to its easiest-for-me point. Basically, I'm feeling pretty good.

Big Picture Challenges

  • Figure out diet.
    • What I've learned since last Tuesday:
      • I've learned that something I'm eating makes me unpleasant to be around in the evening, for Reasons™. I was having this issue a while back, but it went away. Now it's back. Perhaps from readjusting to a paleo diet.
  • Sign up and train for a 5k race.

Wait, what?  Avoid video games?  Shit, I'm in trouble then. :P  But seriously, that's good that you have such a strong handle on how things affect you.

Are you still planning to run the Warrior Dash in August too?

Week 3 Thursday Update

It's amazing what a difference 24 hours can make. I was having such a great day yesterday... until the afternoon hit.

I had a normal day, mostly. Had some increased anxiety in the late morning, but it was within normal parameters. Had a normal day at the gym in the afternoon. But late afternoon hit, and everything went downhill. All of a sudden, my heart was pounding with anxiety, and I was dealing with serious dissociation. It was really bad, made worse by a husband who was less than supportive, in my mind. Bleh. We had a talk about it later, and the evening ended with us both feeling pretty good. Concrete examples of how important communication is in a good marriage relationship, y'all.

I'm feeling a bit better today. Managed to even sleep in a little this morning. I have an appointment with my trainer this afternoon, too! That hasn't happened in quite some time, due to my and his travel schedules. I hope it doesn't destroy me too badly.

    • 5x5 squats, bench press, barbell row. I'm really starting to hit new PRs here, too.
  • Fill Activity ring on Apple Watch every day.
    • And then some.
